Winners, Losers and Lessons From Tuesday
by Bret JacobsonOne would think the repudiation of the President Obama’s direct personal plea would make him the biggest loser in the wake of Tuesday’s stunning victory by Republican Scott Brown in the Massachusetts special Senate election. But one would be wrong.

The biggest loser, of course, is Martha Coakley. It takes a choke-job of epic proportions for a Democrat to lose statewide, no less to fill the legendary Ted Kennedy’s seat. Next on the list would be the Democratic establishment, which failed to find a workable candidate under what’s as close to idea conditions as it comes. (Coakley’s spin machine was certainly happy to cast blame in that direction.)
Though the Republicans are ostensible winners, the meaning of this victory may be lost. The vote, by most accounts, was anti-Coakley and largely in opposition to D.C. Democrats’ over-reaching plans to regulate and legislate our economy into the ground.
But that buck won’t stop at the president’s desk.
With his falling popularity, the President has failed to achieve the top domestic policy and political priorities of his major backers. After not getting the card check law it wanted, Big Labor is now being vilified for exempting only its members from the costly “Cadillac” tax. The environmental lobby hasn’t gotten cap and trade. And no one from the Administration’s camp has actually gotten health care legislation.
So even with a virtual super-majority the President wasn’t able to push through his far Left-wing’s agenda. Now, victory by Brown suddenly gives the White House the best gift they could hope for: the threat of Republican resurgence and the cover he needs to start governing again from the center — where most Americans assumed Obama would spend his time.
All this is not to say that the Democrats won’t continue to push a costly agenda; but it will go underground. Politicians will need to find ways to keep SEIU and the far-Green fringe knocking on doors and cutting checks before November’s midterm elections. As such, the biggest threats will be non-legislative gambits (attempts to regulate carbon dioxide through the EPA, massive new OSHA regulations invading workplaces across the nation, etc).
Tuesday’s results and attendant political shift pose a significant challenge (and opportunity!): Tea Partiers must find ways to make their voices heard to fight the expansion of big government through regulation. Consider some resources like the Heritage Foundation site on regulation or (if you’re hopeful that there’s been a sudden burst of transparency) Regulations.gov and be sure to write comments when the government bureaucracy tries to create new rules.
But back to the good news for a moment more.
President Obama and his chief of staff likely remember the important lesson from former President Bill Clinton’s first two years with a Democratic majority, in which he nearly tanked his presidency with a disastrous effort on health care legislation. He was rewarded with a Republican Congress and received accolades from governing as a moderate, always able to tell his own party members to sit down quietly.
Perhaps Obama wanted nothing more than to have his own Republican-controlled Congress. If so, he’s done everything possible so far to ensure he got what he wanted. He — and we — will have to wait till November to see if he gets his full wish.

The winners are the people of the US. The loosers are the socialist pigs.
And Shepherds we shall be
For thee, my Lord, for thee.
Power hath descended forth from Thy hand
Our feet may swiftly carry out Thy commands.
So we shall flow a river forth to Thee
And teeming with souls shall it ever be.
In Nomeni Patri Et Fili Spiritus Sancti
The biggest winner is US.
We the people.
Do you seen the pain and anguish on Chris Matthews' and Rachel Maddow's faces after the election? It was almost like they saw 8 years diminsh to 4 years in a blink of the eye. With the best of the 4 years behind them.
They are in denial. They are convinvcing themselves that this has absolutely nothing to do with his policies, most especially his Health Reform debacle. They will continue to ignore the people and carry on as if nothing happened and keep jamming this cr@p down our throats. It will just take a bit longer to get it done. Thay are not stopping, not by a long shot!!!
The chill is now running down Chris Matthew's leg and puddling on the floor under his desk.
apt description, may MaryJo finally be at rest!!
There are a lot of folks that Senator Elect Brown should be grateful to, and thank.
Barrack Hussein Obama should be at the top of the list.
THANKS BARRACK!
The Scott heard round the world!
Strike 3 for Obama.
Those coattails just aren't what they used to be, getting quite tattered now.
Au contraire- Barry is no Bill Clinton. The inside word is, he's actually going to double down on extremism:
http://dyn.politico.com/printstory.cfm?uuid=43D62...
Obama's egotism is differnt from and more pathological than Clinton's. Both fatherless, maybe it's because Bill grew up poor and Barry grew up rich. Whatever the cause, Bill's need for love and approval led him to do anything to "earn" the love he craved. Whereas Barry thinks he *deserves* adulation and success- gotten it all his life- and if he doesn't get it then it's *our* fault. Clinton the chameleon could change into whatever he thought the people wanted. Obama wants to change the people into what he wants.
Which adds up to "crash and burn." I just hope he doesn't have Hitlerian visions of Gotterdammerung as he goes down.
President Obama is too arrogant to learn any lessons from this election. He's less charismatic than Clinton and more out-of-it than Carter ever was.
Glad to see more and more American voters are waking up to the realization that Barry and his ilk are socialist liars that are steering this great country in the wrong direction. Good job, MA. God bless America!
Brett – your points are well taken. We look to this site and others to keep people informed and active.
It should also tell the GOP to pull back to its roots. Enough spending! Enough government take overs! ENOUGH!! We are a country based on the principles set forth in our Constitution & I don't care if there is an (R), (D) or (I) after your name, if you don't start listening to us, the people, you're out!!!!!
I watched that fat jerk try and talk how they can use reconciliation tonight.
Obama won't do as Clinton did. Clinton was a pragmatist and master politician. Obama is an inexperienced ideologue who's had everything handed to him on a silver platter his entire life. He has no clue how to handle adversity.
The pendulum didn't take long to swing back to the other side.
I agree….but I also see this as a warning shot across the bow of the elitists in the Republican party. Those who ran up the debt under President Bush. We'd hardly be in this position if President Bush hadn't supported and pushed the lending excesses in his pledge to get 100% home ownership in the US. (clue to Pres Bush:::there is a REASON there isn't 100% home ownership in the US… People become home owners when they invest blood, sweat and tears to get ahead. Not everyone wants to do that.
Having said that, I'll say that as of late even Republican politicians have taken "We The People" for granted and run roughshod over us passing legislation willy-nilly. Legislation should be treated like a weapon: you only pull it out if you're going to use it. It is used sparingly…..
That's a great one Dave…I agree and thanks Massachusetts
You gotta feel sorry for the Dims…
Stirring a pot full of angry hornets, stung THREE times now, and how do they react…?
"Let's stir it even FASTER…we're on a timetable…"
Fine. Carter wants off the most stupid list anyway…
As a tea party member, I plan on holding the Repubs accountable as well. We need to get rid of the Progressives/Socialists in both parties.
Did anyone see the Howard Dean interview? Priceless!! He stated this wasn't Obama's fault, it wasn't the Dem parties fault, it should all be blamed on Bush. He then went on to say only losers blame others. It was awesome.
This is the beginning…………………..of the END………………………..of obamacare.
They can shoot it down now……………………..or we'll shoot them down in November.
"loosers"
That makes me laugh.
The tingle running up his leg became a tinkle running down in rather quickly.
Democrats are playing musical electric chairs; the suicide, blame the other guy game.
It wasn’t Coakley that lost this election; it was the total disregard our leadership has shown for the people.
Obama, Reid, Pelosi and the rest of the flying monkeys believe in their hearts that making back door deals and passing health care fraught with bribes and hokey math is the way to go.
They have failed miserably in doing the bidding of their constituents.
Instead, we are faced with a fractured electorate that now hates with seething shrillness, words like Nebraska or Louisiana, Nelson or Dodd.
The Democrats have cut their wrists for no reason at all. Instead they could have spent their time putting Americans back to work and eliminating our enemies on the field of battle. They could have reached across the aisle and accomplished tort reform and buying insurance across state lines as well as stopping preexisting conditions and escalating costs.
Instead we have a Congress nobody trusts and a country on the brink of double dip recession.
Shame on our leadership; don’t blame others when you find yourself out of a job in the near future. You have utterly failed your nation and have committed treason against your fellow countrymen.
Look back on Reagan's standing in 1982 and seriously ask yourselves if the Dems are nervous?
My goodness. I went and listened to it. It is amazing that they think they are not getting their message out!
Here's Howard Dean.

We of good cheer should offer our friends on the other side of the aisle some good advice:

KEEP DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

Hehe. Classic!
Bill Clinton was the former Governor of a conservative state. His background gave him the knowledge and the flexibility to change his stance based on the political winds. Arkansas isn't Connecticut by any stretch.
Obama is a community organizer who has either organized communities or organized corruption before becoming a Senator for a couple years where he voted present, consistently. His only option is to double down on stupid because that's what Alinsky says to do, so that's what he'll do.
God willing, it will tear down the Progressives once and for all. Progressivism/Liberalism has been nothing but an epic fail for over a century. You can only re-brand it but so many times.
………..and if they were Japanese and had any honor or dignity, they would committ hari kari.

If Mike Allen at Politico is correct, Obama plans to become "combative" rather than take his lumps as Bill Clinton did. If he goes that way, he will become isolated not just from the voters, but from most Democrats in Congress. Pelosi and a few others are ideologues, but the vast majority are politicians. They're not going to fall on their swords for Obama, Pelosi, or the Progressive Movement. The Demmunists' health care reform is toast. The sooner they recognize that and move on, the better off we'll all be.
Can your boy Brown keep that promise and kill the bill? Or will that bill get put through before he gets sworn in like he always knew would happen but lied to you anyways?
Define irony…A Republican campaigns against government run health care in a state that has government run health care that was signed into law by a Republican. Next thing you know, he'll be a Senator in a state that allows gay marriage and posing nude on leading feminist magazines. LOL
A second Scott won tonight: Scott Rasmussen. He called this election and the liberal establishment called him biased. Who looks biased now?
Dems got a few weeks to put through the health care legislation to make sure everybody can see Brown as the liar he was for promising to stop it when he knew he'd be a majority (and the dimwits who bought it).
Dems got 10 months to address the issues promised. Reagan in 1982 was by far more unpopular than Obama with most of the population against Reagan-omics by a 2 to 1 ratio and still got it done and go re-elected and Reagan's approval ratings were dismal comapred to Obama's. To hell with this "Can you hear us now crap" and put through what the majority of Americans elected these Dems to do. Brown is but one seat, one man and one Senator in one state. Got a long ways to go.
A shout out to GLENN BECK for saying things on TV that nobody else would. He informed us of things that we never would have learned about. He let us know that we were not the minority and to stay informed. THANK YOU Glenn Beck.
There are some things that, in the long run, refuse to be ignored. Or taken for granted. When this rule is ignored, events inevitably occur to remind you of its importance.
A few examples of some things that are not safe to ignore, to illustrate the principle.
A) The condition of your automobile's brakes.
B) Your relationship with your significant other.
C) Customer satisfaction, if you are a businessman.
… and, of course :
D) The opinions of your constituents, if you are a politician.
The Greeks had a word for it. They called it hubris. And, as they knew full well, hubris is inevitably followed by nemesis.
Hello Syn.
I've missed your comments.
Although I figure that is you posting under the name mikatollah……….
Funny thing, everywhere I've visited on the web tonight, not one dem hack refered to "teabaggers", they all said 'Tea Party Movement'. Do they finally get it? Consider this quote from one Gavin Newsom, mayor of San Francisco, "This is real.At our own peril, we dismiss these Tea Partys as…. some sort of isolated extemism….it's not".That, my friends, is as close to a compliment, begrudgingly so, as it may be, that we will ever get. Once entrenched, the only thing that will deter these political sycophants is DEFEAT! Of course hag pelosi said that Republicans will continue to represent the insurance companies, the wealthy and Wall St., obviously, she dosen't get it, yet. Let's shove another, much larger boot up their collective asses this November!!!
He strikes out and he throws a ball like a girl……………….What a President………..
One VERY important caveat here, my friend. Freakin' Obama is NOT Reagan, no way, no how, never was, never will be!! I think you're giving obama too much credit, I hope he will now stumble and bumble to defeat after defeat. We shall see."We live in interesting times". Very interesting, indeed …………………. Hanzo
How bout this?…Do you see a change in attitude starting?

Slow down Indy… Scott is a "short term" answer against ObamaCare.. he's still a "big govt. spender".. I have no idea how he's going to vote now he's a US Senator, but his state voting record wasn't exactly stellar.
And Michelle holding him in her muscular arms, stroking his head, saying "Now, now my Precious". Ha ha ……………… Hanzo
I second that!! He is a very courageous man!
I don't know about you(but I can guess), but I'm not in a concilliatory, bi-partisan mood right now, I smell blood, heh heh ………………. Hanzo
THANK YOU MA.!!!!Now WE THE PEOPLE can start to take our COUNTRY back.
ONCE again THANKS. from ILLINOIS.
IN GOD we trust
So no World Government, then?
Reality is reality though. We need to give him a large dose of it at every turn
……………… Hanzo
"(Clinton) was rewarded with a Republican Congress and received accolades from governing as a moderate, always able to tell his own party members to sit down quietly."
Oh, how I would love to have a president again who was only 2/3 nuts instead of full blown, burn-down-the-asylum-and-lock-the-ashes-away-forever insane…
Thats funny.
I always envisioned her grabbing him by his big ears and "steering" him. Faster Barry, faster…………
Yuk.
Yes.
In God we trust.
In Barrack we do not.
Reagan was more like us than any politician in a looooooong time, and look what he did, we can do it too!! Who cares if they're nervous or not? Here we come!! …………… Hanzo
I think he's going to go ape-shit banana's crazy and end up with nurse Ratched wiping spittle off the bottom lip of his straight-jacketed self.
They are falling right into our trap then, bwahahaha. Let them ……………. Hanzo
If not for GLENN BECK I would not know about the CLOWARD-PIVENS STRATEGY. Hats off .We the the people need to support him in every way.
So liberals got 10 months to address the issues? Sure I guess 12 months and having a majority in the House and a filibuster proof one in the Senate that didn't need one Republican vote to pass there stuff was just too darn hard. I love the liberal denial reflex it's truely amazing. So it's a majority and mandate when a Democrat gets elected but when a majority of one of the most liberal states sounds a loud message and elects a Republican then there a bunch of dimwits and to hell with them? Man the only thing better then seeing Brown elected is seeing you liberals react to it your bad winners and insufferable whiney losers. 2010 is gonna be a bad year for you.
Now that was funny!
The other Hussein had that scorched earth mentality.
Remember, the one in Iraq, the one they hung?
It is wildly entertaining, watching these certifiable wack jobs……….
Ha ha, good point, CL. Of course that was a rhetorical statement, right? "Had any honor or dignity", which we know they have a shred of neither. …….. Hanzo
Given the results in Mass. tonight, I know someone who's going to be in big demand on the campaign trail come the fall.
Ha ha ha ha ………… Did mika get back from Massachusetts?
…….. Hanzo
No Mr. Logic. I never post under another name but this one. I got quite a few points and wondering if there's a prize you get when you cash them in? LOL That's a lot of points for a Left-wing loonie like me eh?
Obama is definitely NOT Reagan indeed. Reagan cut and run from Lebanon where as Obama is staying the course on the war on terror fighting the terrorists Reagan created. Obama's economic policies showed positive results quicker than Reagan's and Reagan had lower approval ratings and much stiffer and more formidable opposition that Obama has.
Here's the way I se it.
2 million people voted in the Ma. election tonight., of which 37% were (and are) Democrats. 12% Republicans, and 51% Independents.
Thats 740,000 democratic voters, of which 22% (162,800) voted for Scott Brown. He only won by 100,000+ votes. That means that the Democrats are the ones who put him over the top, and won the election for him.
Without the Democratic vote………….Scott Brown don't win.
So THANK YOU …………………….to all those democratic "dimwit's who bought into it"……..They may have just saved the Union.
And a pox upon your game……….sintax.
yes, don't let the republicans simply ride your coattails to victory. The big government republicans, or 'rinos' are already experience wins off of taxpayer angst. Now let's see if they blow it again like they have in the past.
[...] Joints Happy Anniversary, Mr President! Ace of Spades Liberty 1 – Tyranny 0, Pajamas Media Winners, Losers and a Lesson from Tuesday, Big Government “This one’s for you, Mary Jo”, Gateway Pundit The Massachusetts [...]
Syn,
I don't know about the points, or the prize. Perhaps you and I could join forces and turn ours in together. Maybe we could win one of those free jet rides for Big Government bloggers down to Haiti, and report back from there. Maybe even adopt a gaggle of little damaged orphans.
At least we should get a free chicken dinner from Popeyes Chicken.
I don't think you are that far of a loonie. We normally agree to disagree, yet remain civil, and have even agreed on a few things in the past.
Say, have you heard the news?
Scott Brown got elected to teddy Kennedy';s seat. Camelot is dead. So is the Dahli Bama's Health Care Fiasco. Jimmah Carter is probably doing cartwheels, drinking gin with his jello at the crazy home.
Uhh, not to nitpick, but, did you mean Arkansas isn't Massachusetts? …………….. Hanzo
Look, you lost a 40 + seat to Spector in Pennsylvania and now gained a 40 + seat back in Mass. Evens out. It's not a brilliant stratergy on behalf of tea-baggers here. The Democrats and Coakley were arrogant in assuming a seat held by a Democrat for 46 years would be an entitlement. It wasn't! Kennedy kept getting re-elected because of who he was and not because of what party he was. Brown saw a weakness and capitalized on it and that's great political theater but does it reflect on an impending doom? Only if Obama allows it. You get cut and you bleed a little but you still keep going and never let the parasites slow you down. Clinton knew it and got re-elected after being a thousand times worse off than Obama is currently. Obama knows it too.
We're not whiney as much as you want to see us whiney but c'mon…tea-baggers? Give me a break. The guy posed for THE leading feminist magazine, campaigned against government run health care in a state that has government run health care created by a Republican and promised to kill legislation knowing he won't be in there in time to do it and subsequently lied to get elected. No whiney.
Obamas economic policies showed positive results quicker than Reagan's? Ok, you've just marginalised yourself by spouting pablum. BHO"S economic policies haven't shown positive results YET, numnuts. The rest of your tripe is just that, tripe.Which bizzaro world do you reside in? ………….. Hanzo
"and look what he did," — Ummmm what? What exactly did he do?
What I'm saying is Reagan was in worse standing with much lower approval ratings and much stiffer opposition than Obama was in his 2nd year and still comfortably got re-elected and Reagonomics was more unpopular than this Health care legislation for sure.
Brown capitalized on some unnecessary weaknesses and it IS a serious wake-up call for the Dems. What Coakley and the Dems didn't realize is Kennedy kept getting re-elected for 46 years because of who he was and NOT what party he was with. I believe an arrogant sense of entitlement was assumed by these Dems and Coakley and it cost them big time.
So I guess these Dems better win back our votes or we'll hand it over to the tea-baggers huh?
Now Syn, there you go, again.
Regan did not create any terrorists. He inherited them, from the friggen moron Jimmah Carter. Tell the truth amigo. All of it.
Are you Bin Laden living in a cave? Consumer confidence is back up, housing market is turning around and with new builds and purchases back up, the markets have turned around to pre-hurricane neo-com levels, consumer confidence is back on the rise and unemployment numbers are gradually on the decline but not declining quick enough. Oh yeah…you're right! We should have left it the way Bush left it. We were so much better off than we are now.
Hope and Change — AMERICAN-STYLE!
Little know fact Mr. Logic…the order to finance, train and support the Mujaheddin was signed in July of 1979 by Jimmy Carter. A lot of people give credit to Reagan for ending Soviet Communism when it was Jimmy Carter who started that ball rolling but both Presidents were warned that they were emboldening the absolute worse people on the planet by doing this. They went ahead and did it anyways.
Ironic, isn't it? Ed has done for us in death what he would never have done in life. Hand us back our liberty.
you pretty funny…………..yes you are.
I actually heard someone say that this was Bush's fault! LOL! I am so loving this. I look forward to many months of watching progressive hand-wringing, back-biting and circular firing squads. The State of the Union address should be absolutely hilarious!
Hey, Obama! Way to rally the troops! Thank you so very much. We couldn't have done it without you!
The change in the American political scene started tonight with the successful win of Republican Scott Brown to Senate! The end of David Gergen's question about "the Kennedy seat." As Scott Brown put it "it's not the Kennedy seat, it's not a Democrat seat, it's the PEOPLE'S SEAT."
Hooray for Scott Brown and for America!
You're welcome. And trust me: MANY people in MA have been sick to death of the Kennedy "dynasty" and its accompanying mythology for years, and see this win as a release from its hypnotic grip, as well. My husband and I looked at each other when Scotts' win was officially announced, slow grins spreading over our faces, and I finally whispered, "Is it really over?" It appears it is. My God, I've gotta go out and do a happy dance in my driveway!
Afghanistan ended Soviet Communism? You are truly demented. Reagan drove them under in the 80's, deny it all you want to.Consumer spending FELL worse than expected in Dec.. Housing market is NOT turning around, with failures expected to INCREASE in coming months. Unemployment numbers are NOT declining, you are somewhere past demented or you're flat out lying to start trouble, which is it? You spout your crap and I guess you think everyone is so stupid that we don't know the truth? You are simply a joke, ha ha, guess you're good for a laugh every now and then …………………. Hanzo
P.S. — I forgot to also ask the countrys' forgiveness for the numerous Moonbat boneheads we've sent to Washington over the years. Hope you'll consider this decisive election evidence of a return to sanity and our first act of contrition.
Syntool, you don't bend over. You lean back and I set my nut sack on your forehead.
It was a wonderful present that the voters of Massachusetts sent down to Noblama on his 1 year anniversary as our duly elected leader.
It'll be gift wrapped in an ugly green "truck"…………………….You can call him Senator Brown, you know, the one who's in "Kennedys' seat" now.
Everyone in their right mind knows what this is going to do to the Obama train, it will either one, derail it, or two slow it down to a stop. Either way, Barry, Nancy, and Harry are going to have a long 2010. Unemployment will continue to climb, gas prices will continue to go up, the trade deficit, and the National Debt will continue to get worse and worse.
The Dems will take a hit somewhere between five to eight Senators, and about 25-30 Congressmen in the 2010 midterms.
Like in all midterms, every sitting President has staff change over. I will give it this time next year, January 2011, that Hillary will step down as Secretary of State, quietly start funding raising, and will be run against Obama. Why would she do that? Because she's Hillary, and she wants to be the first woman President more than anything else.
Think the "tingle" that Chrissie felt was more like a major cramp today.
we did it!:) i called everyone i know and picked my freind up at work so he could also make it home in time to vote! i never been so driven for a canidate as brown! people mistake this state for way way way left liberal its not im independant and so is over half this state we watched the debate we see whats been happening over this year ! its funny these loons accused conservatives of scaring the public with fear of terrorism yet the only thing that really scares me is this radical controled government thats desperately needs so balance!
i did my part today! scott brought in doug flutie and we showed them the dropkick they so much needed!
"The people of Massachusetts have spoken. We welcome Scott Brown to the Senate and will move to seat him as soon as the proper paperwork has been received," said Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev.
Hey Scott, when you get down there, make sure you shove that paper work right down dingy Harrys' throat……………or better yet up his ass………………………..just like they've been doing to us with their healthcare reform.
I think I just threw up a little bit…
Bet Scott will do that when he drives his GMC to the WH for a game of hoops with O'Bummer. Scott took his dig a BHO in his acceptance speech.
Mjolnir,
The trolls have been Silent all day and damned if you didn't invite them back!! I won't let them spoil my "Tingle"
though.
basically what really happened in mass is scott owned the debate in every facit and coakley mouth every time it opened to say something the polls went down! this wasn't the change we want or need and the only whay we could tell washington its the people government and we wont sit idealy by while radical loons out of touch with the people destroy our great nation.
2 months ago i din't know who the republican canidate was for this seat i was saying oh jesus plz not coakley or capano maybe the celtics guy wont be too bad! but the oppertunity arose and we the people of mass today we are fed up and we are ready to tell those radical loonie socialists that claimed to be centerist; "HEY WASHINGTON TRUCK YOU!
one more before i goto sleep while imm still felling the "scott brown surge"
I BET OBAMA IS UP RIGHT NOW CAUSE HE CAN'T GOTO SLEEP! HE KEEPS THINKING HOW THE HELL DID WE LOSE TO A TRUCK??? WITH OVER 200,000 MILES ON IT TOO!!!
i glad to see that the rest of the nation is proud once again of the people that live in mass things have been out of control on a local level in this state for as long as i can remebmber! to let the nation be as out of touch with the people as my state has been would be a travesty i cannot bare.
Points here at BG are only redeemable for an increase in IQ score. Keep saving those points and you will have to remove one shoe.
Please, please, puleeeeez tell us hicks here at BP ONE, just ONE positive result.
