Liberty or Tyranny in 2010: Support the Rightward, Most Viable Candidate

We learned that this administration is bent on subverting republican government. Article IV of the Constitution — and its guarantee of a republican form of government — means nothing to Obama, the Congressional majority, and Obama’s Supreme Court appointees. Obama rules by decree. Elena Kagan’s okay with banning books.
November 2 is our last chance to stop the free fall into tyranny.
In many states, including my home state of Missouri, passions rage in advance of the August 3 primary. I understand. To a degree, I helped enflame those passions by launching a tea party in February of last year. But that was before we fully understood what’s going on in Washington—before we realized that Barack Obama and the Congressional Democrats (not to mention Woody Allen and Ed Schultz) believe in tyranny.
On August 3 and November 2, I will follow the advice of the wisest man I every met, William F. Buckley Jr. Buckley’s rule for picking a candidate was simple: “Always support the rightward-most, viable candidate.” I would ask the same of everyone whose advanced the cause of liberty in the past seventeen months or longer.
Some good, sincere people want to tear down candidates they believe are less than ideal. In some election years, I’m inclined to do the same. But not this year. Not with what we know.
In 2010, we have a choice between liberty and tyranny. The candidates of one party will vote with the President on every issue on which he demands their loyalty. We saw this in healthcare. We saw it in finance “reform.” We saw it on stimulus. We saw it on budget reconciliation. The President’s party would vote for human extinction if Obama asked them to.
In such a perverted environment, I believe we have a duty to stop the descent into tyranny, even if that means supporting a candidate who falls short of our ideal. To tear down the rightward-most, viable candidate is to tear down the last the defense against tyranny. If that’s why we started the Tea Party movement, then I wish it had been still-born.
Put another way, between Hamilton and Jefferson, I’d choose Jefferson. But I wouldn’t destroy one to elect the other.

Libertarians and conservatives make the best alliance as far as I'm concerned. I'm sick of seeing moderates running for office and the Republican establishment supporting either because they think that candidate has the best chance of winning or because they think America is more center than right.
As Glenn Beck says and I agree, it depends on how many American Patriots are willing to bend their knees. I mean…..seriously fall to their knees. I for one do every single day, and He has been helping me through this mess. Prayer DOES help, I for one can say through experience. : )
Dr. Ron Paul is the ONLY MAN in D.C. that we can trust. Perhaps in the future we can add Paul Ryan to the mix, but until then, Ron Paul and those like him (where are they?) deserve our attention.
Libertarians can save this country. Individual liberty and freedom (pro-lifers will take issue, but let's face it, we have far more important issues) and a foreign policy built through trade, not imperialism. We can't afford any more pointless wars.

Absolutely. As a proud Libertarian, I will admit that I disagree with some things in the GOP, but when it comes down to it, I will get along with a Republican 10000000% more easily than with a pathetic liberal piece of excrement.

Gary Johnson two term Governor of New Mexico is running in 2012 and he is a Republican -Libertarian that Palin couold add some real pizzazz to.
I guess it all depends on what the objective is. Is the objective to stop the Obama Administration from putting their preferred policies in place or is the objective actually change the system? If the former takes priority, then Bill's right. We're seeing the problems with the latter philosophy in Nevada. The conservative voters went with Angle because she was the most "pure" and she's tanking and is danger of actually losing to Harry Reid, which was a seat that Republicans had felt sure they would win.
But, if one's preference is to vote for the most "pure" candidate in order to send a message or attempt to start a "revolution" then Bill's comments won't make sense.
EDIT: I'm at a loss trying understand why people are rating this comment so poorly… Unless people here just look at my "red" score up top and vote based on that rather than the content of the comment. Any thoughts?

Obama is now amassing as much power into the executive branch so he can rule by regulatory fiat anticipating Republican house takeover. Executive orders can allow illegals the right to vote in 2012.
Obama is doing exactly what the Latin marxists do. He even the SEIU, ACORN, and the NBPP goon squads have latin equivalents. Ortega, Chavez and Castro have the exact same thing. Both great choices in my opinion but the media will never let up on Palin and they already are pushing for her to run.
I don't know about you but I despise the idea of political opponents choosing our candidates, NUT-roots overwhelmingly chose Palin as their preferred opponent over the weekend.

This is a year when we must get people to the polls and sadly some of us will have to hold our noses. While there will be RINO's on the ballot I for one prefer a RINO to another Progressive Democrat. Buy some Pepto and do what we must do to wrest back seats. If not a majority at least a rock solid blocking minority. I pray daily to win both houses to totally thwart the lunatic in the Whitehouse.

I disagree; Ron Paul is not the only man in D.C. we can trust (Mike Pence, Michelle Bachmann, Tom Coburn and Jim DeMint belong on that list as well). As a pro-lifer (namely, one who believes life begins at conception), the cause of life is important because it has to do with the most sacred of unalienable rights: the right to life.
As for our current wars, my stance has been quite clear: finish the job there and bring the troops home. It can be done, and it should be done.
I do too, I dedicate my whole morning as soon as I get up to God, than throughout the day pray as well. But ever since Glenn said that about falling to your knees, I started doing that and….don't ask me how, or details, but I have seen a huge difference with our finances. I mean seriously. While this date may be our last, BEST chance, it is never TOO LATE! The tactics will change, but to focus on one day is wrong. This fight that we have taken on is a war that won't be won for DECADES!. There is so much more to do than elect shiny new politicians. The corruption in our government runs deeper than them. We are now engaged like never in my life time and maintaining that engagement will be the key. Nov. 2nd will be a Hell of a battle, though. Hopefully a blood bath……

According to Rasmussen Reports, Sharron Angle trails Harry Reid by just 2% – 45% for Reid to 43% for Angle.
Previous polls showed Reid had racked up a lead of 7% following a $1 Million ad blitz smearing Sharron Angle and her conservative principles.

The best thing to do when it comes to choosing a candidate is not to let JournoListers decide for us. They'll do everything they can to destroy that candidate's chances of winning, and that will include Herman Cain should he decide to run. Choosing carefully in order to avoid the media trying to build up and take down a candidate would be foolishness on our part.

To the Editor:
Submarines have always fascinated me. Their role in the last century cannot be overstated. From the simple man powered submarines of the civil war to the USS Nautilus’s journey under the North Pole to the modern submarines that form a critical part of the US nuclear deterrent. As over engineered as these ships are, when a torpedo hits, decisions have to be made to save the ship. Sometimes those decisions have to be made under extreme stress, and the result of the orders leads to the death of fellow crew mates. As one space fills with water, pulling the ship inexorably to the bottom, a sailor in the dry space must close the hatch to save the ship.
The United States is analogous to a submarine wounded by enemy action. Instead of an enemy firing a torpedo, we, via all of our poor political leadership have fired one upon ourselves. The political classes collective record, how ever well intentioned, has lead us here, through massive spending, borrowing, and making promises to citizens that cannot be met. Character at a point of pressure is the most important asset a leader, officer, or soldier possesses. Why? Because sometimes it is necessary to close the hatch to save the ship. The question to my mind is which party possesses the capacity to do that now.
While the collusion of both parties are to blame for our sinking ship. It is the Republican party that is desperately trying to close the hatch and save the ship. The Republican party is standing against three pieces of legislation that will forever resign this nation to a continual decline and eventual ruin. The first is commonly understood to be “health care,” this legislation will forever alter a citizens relationship to their government. If it passes medical attention will become a right that must be met by force of law. As the saying goes, if you want to make something expensive, make it free. The failure of this solution to meeting the medical needs of people is deeply felt by those who lost loved ones because the English or the Canadian governments denied vital care. Liberal Democrats have another scheme to launch on the American people this one is called “Cap and Trade” – essentially this nightmare would allow the federal government to tax a citizen when they drive, breath, or turn on the light switch. Kirsten Gillibrand has personally advocated for it in the editorial page of the Wall Street Journal, I assume Senator Gillibrand expects that by creating the next Wall Street scam will lead to voluminous campaign contributions on the back of the American taxpayer. Finally, there is “Card Check,” this gem would eliminate the secret ballot from the process by which a business goes from being a non-union to a union shop. Thus, the Union leadership would be in a position to put massive pressure on those who voted “no.” Republicans have stood, and are standing against all of this – in fact on the “Cap and Trade” front Republicans have earned bipartisan opposition to it.
All the while the water is rushing into our ship, and the choice must be made in six months; will the citizens of this great nation choose to stand with the leadership of the liberal democratic party, that is trying to keep the hatch open, so we all go down, or will the American people choose to stand with the Republican party, that is trying to close the hatch? I have confidence that the American people are ready to not only support the Republican party, but help close the hatch and save the ship. America is ready to sacrifice all but our liberty and our economic freedom – this has, and will always be true, and has happened in the past, it is “We The People” leading the charge. Right now the only organized political party that has the capacity to close the hatch is the Republican party.
We've got about 110 days before candidacy announcements start coming down the pipe and I hope we have a very wide field to pick from.
My rule is simple, if you are wishy washy no vote from me.
Depends on the candidate. If it's a RINO like McCain then NO, I'll just vote Libertarian. I will never EVER EVER EVER vote for a Democrat.

Republican progressives have destroyed us too! Remember that Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins refused to vote for the Bush tax cuts in the first place unless they had a sunset provision. Now, come Jan 1, we're about to pay the price for their foolishness. Now, both of them have committed to vote for Elena Kagan, along with Lindsey Graham and few others.

I recently returned to work [out 4 months] after a grueling recovery from back surgery and two of the shop owners next to my shop stopped by to see how I was doing. They are both democrats and like myself they're immigrants. Both told me they now understand what I've been telling them about the democrats, they acknowledged they were wrong and will be voting Republican. One of them is pretty bitter for having fallen for the lies; he feels taken advantage of which he was.
Yesterday I had someone come in to my shop and was offering some printing services. We spoke for a bit and then started discussing the economy. He and I were the same age and he was interested in what I thought as a business owner. I went off. I railed on the democrats and the leftwing losers that we have to subsidize, I ranted about the economic illiterates in DC and Sacramento then I rhetorically lynched the leftwing propagandists in the media. We spoke for about 45 min and the guys conclusion was that he had been lied to. He said he started drifting Right after the attacks on 9/11 [he's a first generation American, parents from Mexico] and said he's been going further to the Right ever since.

Ron Paul is good in many areas but he does not understand how to protect a nation, he is strongly anti-military and would prefer we only had a National Guard. If we only had a National Guard when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, there is no way we could've made a difference in the Pacific. The thing everyone has to learn is the precinct chairs are elected officials and they can get elected with very few votes–many times fewer than 1K, because nobody knows what the office is or does. Ron Paul understands the military perfectly. He stresses national defense, but not offense. Instead of wasting countless lives and money meddling in other countries' affairs, that money would be spent protecting the borders and on R&D. Health care reform has been needed for generations, and we've taken good steps in the right direction. There has been no "takeover" of any auto maker or bank or health care system. I'm doing much better, I actually had two back surgeries over the last 4 months, the second was to correct a minor problem from the first surgery which included adding more hardware. My cervical spine x rays look like something out of a science fiction movie, almost as disturbing as the x rays of my left arm that show 4 plates and 12 screws [mountain bike accident]; it looks like a part from Sanford & Sons junkyard. American technology is incredible; in any other country I could quite possibly be an invalid. I'm convinced most nations would have amputated the arm instead of rebuilding it, it would be much cheaper. I did have to sign an amputation waiver however if they couldn't repair the arm. UCLA medical rebuilt it to 99% of what it was, I can't praise them enough and my superb surgeon Dr. Roy Meals, professor of arm and limb reconstruction.

The National Guard was established by the Militia Act of 1903, and formally organized by the National Defense Act of 1916.
While Hawaii did not have a National Guard unit in 1941, it did have a territorial guard unit at that time. It was after Pearl Harbor, in 1942, that said territorial guard unit was converted to an official National Guard unit. (And of course Hawaii did not become a state until 1959.)
So parsing about technicalities that since it was officially "just" a "territorial guard" and not an actual "National Guard" unit aside, it would seem you need to educate yourself about military matters before being eligible to certify anyone else's knowledge of the same.

It is not giving up hope it is a warning. Beware of things that would appear to be something they are not. Power is never given up easily and as the Tea Party people make inroads against the deeply entrenched old school Republicans the ruling elite will not let power slip away easily.
I watched Sara Palin take the Republican establishment in Alaska down in real time. I was living there and know a lot of the story that the MSM buried. The Alaska Republican establishment hates Palin as much if not more than the Dems do. Ergo many of her problems.
It would not be surprising if the Tea Party was blamed for some terrorist attack that would be the "emergency" needed to suspend the November elections or to indefinitely delay the seating of the next congress. The question is are you perpaired to do what will be needed to restore the constitution? Think on it but do not waste a lot of time.
I too worry that there will be a well thought out catastrophe not only blaming said catastrophe on conservatives, or anyone opposed to Barry, but also to promote Barry to some other office. One we would have never elevated him to without said catastrophe. This has been one of my main fears for a couple of months now. I also believe that God will send his answer. We will have to choose.
Hope is necessary in order to make the correct choices at major moments in our lives. This November, I think, is going to be one of those times. Good Luck.

I'd love to have someone to vote for instead of picking the least objectionable alternative when voting against the Working Families Party candidates here in NY, and even then I'm in a socialist stronghold district making even that just a gesture most of the time.
I still make the effort to find that least objectionable person and vote because that's what the right to vote is all about – getting out there and making that choice. And part and parcel of that is dealing with the choice other people make, whether you agree with their choices a lot, a little, or not at all. Negotiation and compromise are inherent to the system.

True, healthcare reform is needed, but why did the government take it over along with student loans. The government still owns GM and quite a few banks including Fannie and Freddie that the fin reform bill ignored. So, tell me, how could it be worse, they collapse. If they failed in the market, then they deserve to go down and let somebody better successed where they failed at. Besides, this stimulus bill has slowed our market recovery and has only raised unemployment.
What the government needs to do is to stop the needless spending, privatize everything the government owns, fix our tax code, defend and secure our damn border, and no more bailouts to anyone.

Reagan also talked about inclusiveness, about that "big tent".
But then there are many people who don't consider Reagan to have been a "true" conservative because of certain positions he took.
Maybe, just maybe, what America is hungry for is that strong centrist party that can let everyone run openly and honestly for what is important to their constituents instead of an extensive list of what is important to party ideologues.
Maybe people don't want the full social and fiscal "conservative" platform, they just don't want the full social and fiscal "progressive" platform either.
Maybe that is why the independents, the "Reagan Democrats" and "Clinton Republicans", keep jumping back and forth in who they support, switching which party is in power every few elections.
Maybe thinking they needed total ideological purity is what drove the Democrats to go too far so now they are facing such a dramatic shift in power in the House of Representatives, and possibly even the Senate.
Of course that means Obama didn't win because of ideological purity, he won because McCain was a weenie, and enough of those centrists held the Republicans as a whole responsible for the failures of Bush.
The republicans never vote along party lines unlike their friends across the aisle. vote for repubs and they'll do what's good for the country without placing party loyalty first.
