Political Violence: A Human Problem that Transcends Left and Right
by Brandon DarbyLike most Americans, I found myself frequently watching the news for more information about the shooting involving Congresswoman Giffords. As I searched various media outlets, I wasn’t surprised to see that the Huffington Post was the first I came across which had made the willful choice to sink so low as to exploit this tragic event for political gain. With this post, HuffPo contributor and USC Professor Marty Kaplan, somehow managed to attribute the blame for the Congresswoman’s shooting on Sarah Palin. Using similar logic as those who would attribute the warming of our planet on the gaseous emissions of cows, Mr. Kaplan and the HuffPo’s editors seemingly furthered their track record of turning a blind eye to the fact that Leftists attempt to commit acts of violence in support of a political agenda just as frequently as all other extremists.
From my vantage point, having spent several years working undercover with the Federal Bureau of Investigation on issues related to both domestic and international terrorism, I know that political violence is a human problem. It is an issue which transcends Left or Right, race, or any other confine or label we as Americans might try to place upon the age old problem. However, I also have another vantage point regarding political violence. This is, to put it simply, the personal experience of being burned by the discrepancy in how the predominantly Left oriented Mainstream Media portrays the political violence of the Left in comparison with that of the Right.
This author had the honor of working undercover with the FBI during the 2008 Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota. Several Left-of-Center activists made firebombs which they had intended to use on law-enforcement personnel and on Republican delegates. The FBI thwarted the plans. However, rather than express concern over the intended violence, the New York Times and the Huffington Post (among many others) immediately set out to control the narrative and to “minimize” any political damage from such Leftist extremism. The MSM decided to focus on the so called peace activists feeling betrayed and threatened by the government for having infiltrated their efforts, rather than the fact that such efforts spawned such violence. Never once did the MSM use the term “Leftwing Extremist” or even acknowledge that such violence was wrong. Never once did they mention that the FBI had prevented violence. They even went as far as promoting the erroneous claim that the government was to blame for the violence. Once the Leftist would-be bombers admitted their guilt, the MSM dropped the story and never denounced the intended violence.
Hopefully, Professor Kaplan, along with his comrades at the Huffington Post and the New York Times, will begin to display more balance and honesty in how they present the matter of extremism and political violence, rather than continuing to misrepresent the issues and spin them for political gain. And hopefully, our various law-enforcement agencies, such as the FBI, which are full of heroic men and women who daily prove themselves to be highly competent in thwarting such dastardly acts of disdain for the rights and lives of others, will be remembered by any American who hears someone making threats of death towards other Americans.
Unfortunately, in the case of this shooting, either no one heard the shooter’s threats or someone heard and didn’t have the courage to tell.

"Unfortunately", thinking of an illegal act, is not yet a crime. The actual commission of the act is the crime. This kid was in dire need of psyciatric care and those closest to him let, him and everyone else, down.

I can remember my first political science class and the professor drew a big circle on the board. He said on the right of the circle are the conservatives, on the bottom are the independents, on the left of the circle are the liberals and at the top of the circle are the extremists. He added, these people are so crazy, you can not classify them as liberal or conservative. In my opinion, we are dealing with someone who is at the top of the circle. As I said in my post to Michelle Bachmann's post, he has killed a government worker in what appears to be when he is carrying out his official duties. Under the federal statute, the death penalty applies. I am sure the Feds will charge him and go for the death penalty. If they do and he gets the brass ring, his appeals will be very, very, short. Remember Timothy McVeigh. If there is a second suspect, the Feds can charge him, too. I am just shocked by this senseless tragedy and I pray for all the victims and their families. As far as Sarah Palin is concerned, let this be a lesson to all of us to tone down the rhetoric. We are Americans for Christ sake and we are the envy of the world for our democracy and open discourse. Let's keep it that way.

The Progressive Left Media waits and searches for any tidbit at all that can be used as a construct to blame the Right, Conservative. It would rejoice over the slightest odor of Tea leaves. They could enunciate with glee the dangers of Talk Radio pundits and Fox News being a co-conspirator of the tragic loss of this days events.
The Right Wing Blogosphere waits on the edge of their seats hoping for the scent of any Marxist, progressive links to the mad man who gunned down the innocents to further their narrative of the instability, unbalanced left world view that condones violence on the right, and (gasp!) even promotes it (we have the videos donchya know!, I seen 'em on Big Govt!) said violence.
True Americans hang their head and wonder, What the hell is happening to my country? How did my ideals and upbringing and culture become a sound byte? A bumper sticker? How did we get to this place where in a week 's time from now, every last one of us (except those personally affected) will have moved on to the next carrot that is dangled, the next conspiracy, the next act of outrage…
My heart is heavy today. And the less I read the blogs (that I know in my heart are right) maybe, just maybe, the better off I'll be.

I spent just a few minutes looking at some of the Huffpo comments. Most of them were from some folks who just don't seem to know much about what they are saying. Some that just morbidly twist things so far from truth that it is disturbing.
I also looked at the crazy crap this shooter had on you tube. Certainly not part of the conservative side of things. But from what I saw, he didn't seem to be progressive either. Just disturbed.
Politico is already pumping gun control for AZ. Blaming guns and citing the Brady law. I told ya. This is the beginning of the new assault on the 2nd Amendment.

Their compassion starts and stops with, “what’s in it for me?” …or “the ends justify the means.” The tragic events of today must be spun to fit the leftist narrative no matter how grotesque, remember, the press has been carrying the water for radicals since the ‘60s…hell they are radicals.
You should try the Amazon Discussions (political). About 3 or 4 thread started within an hour of the shooting, all blaming the Right. The rhetoric was disgusting and the lowest of the low. Even to the point of accusing ME of defending the shooter because I said that I was defending "my side", meaning the Right, from the accusations that they had anything to do with this tragic incident.
The Left has truly gone off the rez on this one. I thought the crap about 9/11 was bad, but I think this is far worse.
They are celebrating the figurative death of Palin and the Tea Party because of this incident which basically means that is what they are going to use this for, truth be damned.
I think things just got that much more dangerous.
Or, and this is most likely, given the sick, twisted, moral relativism of the left, they didn't do anything, because they secretly hoped Jared Loughner would do it. As you should recall, the left look for dupes to carry out their vile acts, so they can exploit the opportunity presented to them. Since the last century, the left have been responsible for the slaughter of hundreds of millions of innocent human beings, including children.
I wish those who are trying to avoid referencing Loughner as a leftist, consider that far from being an act of respect towards Rep Giffords, it's actually committing a disservice to her and the other victims of this criminal. Silence in the face of this, especially given the left's rabid slavering away over this, not out of sadness for the victims, but to exploit it, to censor, threaten and intimidate the tea party with it. They don't care about the truth, they are monsters. The left have to be held to account, as does the same president who gloatingly egged his insane leftist supporters that they should bring guns, they shoudl get in the face of all who disagree with them. He threatened those who disagreed with him with his leftists bearing pitchforks. They need to be hit with that and other examples, over and over again until they are on the defensive. Today, too many conservatives let Obama and his leftists go on the offensive. Sarah Palin's show, for example, which was renewed, suddenly was cancelled. Eric Cantor has cancelled the vote to repeal Obamacare, and you know the left are going to go after the 2nd amendment using this. They've successfully turned the tables through exploitation.
I feel like I'm living in an alternate universe. The guys "favorite" video is people burning the American flag. His favorite books are the Communist Manifesto and Mein Kampf. His former classmates are telling everyone how fanatically liberal he is. But the media (politico, Krugman,) are telling me it's because of the tea party and the right. Even though Kos said that "Not all of these people will get or even deserve primaries, but this vote certainly puts a bulls eye on their district." about Giffords. The media is urinating on my head and telling me it's raining.

I do understand what you said there about the circle of political parties and about the fringe extremist. Believe it or not, Beck has done a very similar thing himself and its not about left or right, but the fringe who want to cause chaos and gain power. Something you may not know, but its rather obvious is that the far left has been gaining power for several years now and will use people like unions to get what they want and try to stay and work in the government to do so as well. How else do you explain all the Czars, union bosses, leftist radicals, and socialist/communist in our government now.
As far as Palin, she can do as she pleases, since she has done no wrong and there is no reason for her to tone done as neither as the rest of us should. That was just a pathetic attempt from the Huffpo to attack Palin and nothing more.
The last part is this. Huffpo just has again proved themselves as nothing more than lefty propagana and not a true source of news. If you had even half a brain, you would recognize that.
Clearly this young man's mental illness transcends whatever political views he has. It is really disgusting to me that the MSM and the Liberal blogs have simply decided to interpret the shooter's maniacal rantings as "in line with the Tea Party" or relate them in any way to Sarah Palin. I am always surprised at how low they can go. Every Liberal I know though, has only heard what's on the news and believes this possibly schizophrenic young man is really an angry Tea Party member. He doesn't even fit the profile.
I guess there is no mainstream journalism left in this country and we can mark the end of it as today.

Banning gun ownership or restricting it, is not the answer. The creative among these walking timebombs, will incur greater damage body politic.

It's the people who know these criminals that can help the most just by alerting agencies to give whatever aid they can to help these people. Of course, some are never going to be helped and some will just plain con their way to do what they want. In other words, you can help stop a lot of these acts but never eliminate the threat or actuality, human nature being what it is. As with Americans all over the country, my prayers and condolences go out to the family and friends of the wounded and the fallen. May peace and closure find them.

I'm pretty appalled by the lunatic lefties who are twisting everything to paint this obviously leftwing nutjob as a Tea Party person (who hates America, the flag, the Constitution, and God!! Yeah. And since the shooter in question fancies himself a fan of Marx, why aren't all these supposedly concerned citizens focusing their totally genuine angst at someone who actually called for violence towards their political opponents, and those folks are at PMSNBC, not Fox.

I was watching Anderson Cooper try to pry from two "wonks" a political take on this not more that 4 hours after it happened. In the same broadcast, they were referring to the event as a "senseless tragedy". If it's senseless, then why try to impose a meaning on it? Because the MSM would be irrelevant if sensless events were in fact senseless.
A better image would be those machines in The Matrix, tending over their humans, creating an alternate reality so that they can suck the life out of humanity.
What happened in Tucson was a terrible tragedy. But there are 300+ million people in this country. There are going to be a few bad apples here and there. We can not blame ourselves or "the system" or Fox News when one of these bad apples falls from the tree.

“Left-of-Center”? I’ve heard a number of conservative journalists use this term.
But let’s call a spade a spade. RADICAL LEFT is much more accurate.
Do not let Left’s distortion of language cloud our own description of their vice.
I lost all respect for the media the night in the late sixties when a news team set out to watch a young man protesting the Vietnam War, sat in the middle of a street and poured gasoline on himself and set himself on fire, the authorities were not called until they had captured it on film, by then it was too late, nothing was ever done to the news team. That changed my whole outlook on the Lame Stream News Media.

There is enough of this kind of madness, that it endears itself to all kinds of people. Though predominantly it is those that prescribe to an alternative governmental system who seem to fall prey to this kind of action. No, I don't think this was a spur of the moment event. I've reread my post and don't see where I am blaming both sides. That must be some kind of variable perception on your part. It is a fact that acts like these have been with humankind, probably since the dawn of man, no matter the provocation or political bent of the individual. What I do see however is that the political rhetoric is starting to manifest itself. The more polarize we become as a society, the more often that this kind of thing will happen.

The violence that is beginning to take hold over political beliefs is just the beginning of the end for our Republic. The level of hatred for those oppose to your beliefs is about at the same level that preceded the war against the South. In other words, I think we are sliding to a war that will rend this country asunder. I don't, at the moment, believe we can reverse this slide. It's gonna come down to whether we want freedom or governmental supervision over every aspect of our lives. That is just one example of what is tearing this country apart. I don't see political answers that will resolve any of these. If people can't come together, there will be bloodshed, war and all its attendent horrors.

Lastly, it is not in the best interests of the Progressives(Communists) to accomodate the will of the people. A vast amount of what is wrong in our country can be traced back to what they have taught our kids in primary and secondary educational system. I'm not saying that only young people commit these kind of crimes. History and statistics prove otherwise. But in times of political turmoil, it is commonly the young who initiate the physical acts of anarchy. I'm old enough to remember the 60's and who committed the most acts of violence. My point is that the Progressives(Communists) foment this kind of atmosphere by indoctrinating our children into their belief system.

Sounds like another Progressive(Communist) that wants blame anybody but the shooter himself. Now why is that? It's part and parcel of their belief system. You noticed that all those listed are either big business or people who believe in a Republic form of government and Capitalism. This kind of post I'm responding to is typical fare of them. There is no kind words for the fallen, just a " tell me what to think" so I can get on with my life. Just another example of how you want your thinking done for you instead of thinking for yourself. These are the times I wish I had a rewind button on the radio, but I'm sure alot of what was said during the day will show up as talking points on talk radio. Why it really surprised me was here it is, Arizona- where they're fighting federal hacks to keep their illeagal immigration because their police are fighting the illegal immigrant drug and people smugglers, where even democrat senaters are advocats for 2nd ammendment rights- and here's this police cheif slinging a 1st ammendment control speech. Just not what I expected to hear.

Someone earlier posted that we are all a little bit to blame for Loughner. Balderdash! That is like saying that I, sitting here in Phoenix, am to blame for the teen aged girl in NYC getting pregnant out of wedlock. Or that I am to blame for Rep Giffords and others being in that Safeway parking lot at that time (they wouldn't have been shot if they hadn't been there). NO! The only one to blame for this tragic event is Loughner. He, and he alone, is responsible for this slaughter. "Society" didn't put him in that place at that time, he did.
If she has done no wrong, why did she take down the "target" page from her site. There is a difference between saying something you should not say and saying something that is criminal. I can not believe you can not see the difference.
Really. Well, most of the posts were in response when I was called a douche bag, mother f'er, queer, homosexual. As far as the Black Panthers goes, read this very carefully. I never sanctioned their behavior. I simply said they had not violated the voting rights act because this act required a threat to a "voter" or "poll-worker". When you are dealing with criminal statutes, all elements of the crime must be met. In this shooting for example, I do not believe you can bring federal criminal charges for killing the judge because the statute requires that "the federal employee", which he is, is acting in his "official duties". Since he was simply going to see her speak, he probably is not acting in his official duties. However, this nut killed her director of communications. He also is a federal employee and was in my opinion, was working in his official capacity as was the Congresswoman.
