Which Was Worse: Watergate or Operation ‘Fast and Furious’?

And in 1997 – a full 25 years after the fact – Katherine Graham, who was with The Post in 1972, vividly recalled how “Nixon began making threats of economic retaliation against the paper.”
According to Graham, Nixon bullied the paper, sought to silence it, and launched a “campaign to undermine public confidence in [it].”
Judging from what Graham said, it appears that Nixon wanted to be sure people understood that if they continued to pry into Watergate or talk about Watergate or break news about Watergate as it unfolded, there would be harsh ramifications. (Keep in mind – Nixon had nothing to do with planning Watergate. Only with covering it up once he learned of it after the fact.)
Honestly folks, Watergate provided the Left with such a singularly sweet opportunity to bring down a Republican president that they’ve never gotten over it. As recently as 2004, MSNBC sent reporters to the streets to be sure up and coming generations had not forgotten what Nixon had done. (I don’t want to belabor the point, but Nixon had nothing to do with planning Watergate. Only with covering it up once he learned of it after the fact.)
So for covering up something up, Nixon was crucified by Left: to the point that by the summer of 1974 it became evident the House of Representatives was going to bring up impeachment charges against him. But he nipped those plans in the bud by resigning office on August 9, 1974, and flipping the “V” for victory to the hippies and the war protestors as he boarded the chopper that carried him away from the White House.
No one died during the Watergate break-ins or as a result of Nixon’s cover-up.
Switch gears and jump to 2009, and the ATF’s special operation “Fast and Furious.” An operation with which you’re all familiar by now, where upwards of 2500 guns in Arizona were sold to “straw purchasers” under the assumption that those guns were going to end up in the hands of Mexican cartel members who could then be arrested.
Talk about an embarrassingly ignorant plan.
Jump now to 2011 – of the approximately 2500 guns sold only a few hundred have been recovered and at least one federal agent, Brian Terry, lost his life due to this ludicrous operation.
Talk about a cover-up: this operation was somehow planned and conducted without the full knowledge of the Acting ATF Director, the Justice Department, or President Obama having any knowledge of it. (By “full knowledge” I mean that Acting ATF Director Kenneth Melson says knew about it, but was kept “in the dark” regarding the extent of the operation, and the involvement of other agencies like the FBI and DEA.)
In other news, on July 5th Jack Tapper (ABC News) peppered Obama’s White House Press Secretary with questions about “Fast and Furious” in front of the rest of the press reporters, but the most substantive answer that Jay Carney gave was: “The president takes this very seriously.” (In all fairness to Carney, he’s clueless because Obama keeps him clueless.)
Look folks, this is ridiculous. Where is Chris Matthews? Where is that Keith guy who used to work for MSNBC? Where are all the freaks who wanted to hang George W. Bush in effigy for supposedly-lying about Iraq?
Why are they silent in the face of so great a cover-up?
Senator Charles Grassley and Representative Darrell Issa are pressing for answers on “Fast and Furious,” yet the Justice Department is doing its best to keep people from talking. (Grassley and Issa actually had to send a letter to the Justice Department to ask them to avoid pressuring people into not talking and to provide protections for those who do.)
Remember: No one died during Watergate, yet Nixon had to resign. Federal Agent Brian Terry is gone due to “Fast and Furious” – it’s time for someone to lose their job, if not go to jail or face impeachment charges in the House of Representatives.

This is treason. Some people should be executed for this crime. Casey Anthony killed one person, these a$$holes killed 152 people.
Given that Watergate didn't result in the deaths of anyone that we're aware of, this is a clear no-brainer. Obama and Holder are scrambling like mad men to cover this up and Issa and Grassley cannot let them off the hook. IMO this was one of Obama's and the anti 2nd crowd's "under the radar" attempts to enact their version of gun control. And it went horribly, horribly wrong – as one would expect.
Why are they silent? Simple answer, because they are from the left so they're going to circle the wagons around Obama and his minions and pretend nothing ever happened.
This is a scandal of epic proportions……
And for the reasons that include the death of an agent, intentional illegal sales of arms to drug dealers in another country with the purpose to deceive the populous in believing America contributes to the arming of drug cartels, the refusal of the DOJ to cooperate, and the refusal by this administration to promote a full and cooperative investigation….
Issa and company needs to be on this hard-core and not let up until ALL parties are convicted….
Watergate was, compared to this, a minor infraction of the law. This will either go the distance with jail time or will fizzle out in a mire of paper and cover up ,,,,,,,,,,, "seen to be in the best interest of the USA"
Wasn't long ago, when the Pres. of Mexico spoke to congress and condemned the gun ownership policies of George Bush and directly linked what Bush did or failed to do to the violence in Mexico. The congress gave Calderon a standing ovation. Then we had story of Bloomberg out of New York City running some kind of a gun dealing sting with NYC agents all the way down in Arizona. There never was any follow-up on bloomberg and what would appear to be an illegally run sting operation. When you put all the pieces together, this thing really stinks.

The DemonRats, and their in-house PR dept the media, think they can get away with this, because they've gotten away with it before. Look at Slick Willie, he lied under oath, made a mockery of the proceedings, (It depends on what the definition of "Is" is.)and he skated home free. As far as I know, the only evidence against Obama is the belief that Holder, et al. would not dare do this on their own. Forget that it shows Obama as an incompetent ass, who SHOULD have known, to this point, he's got deniability. The LSM were in Clinton's corner so far as to almost be co-conspirators, and nothing happened to them, so they feel safe. They know that if they help Obama, and he wins re-election, they'll have a big fat marker to cash; like perhaps a bailout.
For the left, there's no downside, they've done this before, and they have no reason to believe that they can't do it again. We conservatives need to beat this drum until they do have reason to fear. We need to flood Congress with letters, emails, calls, etc. to ensure that Sen Grassley, and Representative Issa know that the people back them up.

This is just the latest in a long long string of potentially impeachable offenses by the Administration. The entire implications of "fast and furious" have yet to be determined. Recently, in the Arizona Republic there was an article about some of the guns which were sold showing up at crime scenes in the Phoenix area. This was a round-a-bout way for gun control on the federal level which took a turn that even the Marxist in chief didn't plan for. Now the media will try to cover for him and Holder will take the fall for him, but you can't tell me for one moment this wasn't known in the white house .
WaPo enthusiastically dug up Watergate information. They are using that same shovel to bury this story.
The Plumbers unit was created to stem the tide of massive disclosures of top secret information. The break in of the commiecrat party hqs was done to get evidence that Fidel Casto was funneling money to the commiecrats. He most likely was. Just look at the results of the code breaking project the Venona Project, to see how many commicrats in FDR's and Truman's administrations were traitors knowingly helping NKVD/KGB spies. Also look into Teddy Kennedy's efforts to get the Russians to help him get the commiecrat nomination and then take on Reagan.
Operation Fast and Furious and Operation Gun Runner were in essence covert actions controlled and directed by Holder in the DOJ with the full knowledge and approval of our Dear Leader and commie in chief barak hussein obama. Do a little research and find out when Holder and obama started saying that a new assault weapons ban was needed because of the illegal flow of weapons purchased in the US and smuggled into Mexico. On April 17, 2007, Dear Leader said that 90% of the weapons used by drug lords in Mexico came from the US. His statistics were way off but 2009 was when the secret operations began. Who knows, if the Boarder Agent had not been murdered with one of Holder's/obama's smuggled guns sooner or later they might have been able to accurately say 90% of the guns did come from the US. Now that is change you can believe in.
Well let's see, I guess it would have to be "fast and furious" since they gave guns to criminals and then lied about it.

Someone once wrote that for most decisions there is a Good Reason, a Stated Reason and a Real Reason. I think, in this case, the the administration's "Good" and "Real" reasons are gun control and the "Stated" Reason have nothing to do with tracking guns going to the drug cartels.
The Mexican government should threaten to stop allowing any drugs to come north until the Urkel administration comes clean, and some BIG heads roll.

Watergate was much more than a break-in and a cover-up by the Nixon aadministration. The abuses of power under Nixon, where he investigated, kept tabs, punished his political enemies were dangerous to the freedoms of this country. The release of the tapes. demanded by the Congress and the Supreme Court eventually brought down Nixon was forced to resign. The Republic was able to survive this crisis.
The current administration is caught up in this Fast & Furious Affair. But, it is the tip of the iceberg. While LBJ and Nixon sought to increase the power of the Imperial Presidency, Obama is now trying to restore it. His grab for power is unprecedented. His goal is a total transformation of this country. This is way beyond anything that LBJ and Nixon sought to do. While the people turned against LBJ, refusing to seek a second term and Nixon was forced from office due to his obstruction of justice, Obama needs to be removed. This time, the Republic, in its present form, will not survive a second term of Obama. The transformation will be completed and made permanent.
Impeachment is neither wise or possible considering the current makeup of Congress. Therefore, he must be defeated in the coming election of 2012. People who oppose Obama and his policies, need to vote him out of office and then, once a new administration is in place, special prosecutors can be appointed to investigate the lawless behavior of this administration and bring people to justice. The "Fast & Furious' gun selling deal and cover-up needs to be at the top of the list.

Who is going to bring the issue up before the voters if there isn't an impeachment trial, or at least an investigation? Will Issa and Grasley hold tough? Who will explain to the American people that the Obama administration armed the Mexican drug cartels? Mexico is in the middle of a civil war, which is spilling into this country and the Obama administration's hands are bloody with the deaths of Americans and Mexicans. And Obama wants to punish Arizona because the Arizonans want to inforce their border. Who will keep this scandal alive until 2012?

While I would love to see Obama impeached, there are not the necessary 2/3rd's vote in the Senate to convict. So, Obama would stay. But what is worse, he may benefit from public sympathy and the public may feel Republicans are picking on him as they did Clinton. That sympathy vote helped reelect Clinton.
I agree that Issa and Grasley need to use their committees to keep this in front of the American people. More investigations need to be done. The Republican nominee needs to know the facts of the case and use them to hammer Obama and his administration. The nominee needs to promise special prosecutor investigations into these matters, if Republicans win in the fall of 2012.

Issa and Grassley have done a good job so far but we need someone to put constant, heavy pressure on these a**holes until they buckle. The gun-running deal was a devious plan by this administration aimed directly at fraudulently taking away the basic constitutional rights of the American people -something our enemies within have been seeking to do for decades now. Lest one forget, Nixon didn't challenge the results of the 1960 election especially as related to all the dead votes from Cook County, IL, for the good of the country. Despite Nixon's many faults and paranoia, he was an American who ultimately put the good of his country ahead of his self interest.

It is Bizarre. This should be the biggest news story of the year and yet it has barely received mention in the main stream press. Hardly a flub by local law enforcement in some rural county no one has ever heard of. This was a major US govt operation across an international border and yet nobody in authority knows anything about it? Yeah right.

I don't know why everyone thinks that Clinton was re-lected in 1996 because he "was being picked on". The Lewinsky story broke in 1998, well into his second term. Starr didn't even publicly release any of his findings on Whitewater and Vince Foster until 1997. Clinton was re-elected because we nominated a milquetoast candidate in Dole. Progressive-light. Not to mention Perot took 8% of the vote. Not trying to pick a fight, but I keep hearing that same story and it's just not true.

Given the current public feelings on the state of the US border and illegal immigration in general, I don't think the public will sympathiz if it really is uncovered that Obama had a hand in allowing narco cartels to arm themselves and make our borders more violent and dangerous just to push a political agenda. The narrative by the government of Mexico and our liberals was the drug war was being fueled by guns from the US. It turned out to be false. Holder moved to make it a true narrative and with it the possibility of increasing gun control. This could be a huge case. My guess, they will get a pass from MSM and they will attack those who are going after Holder.
Not just caused the deaths of a few Americans and countless Mexicans, he made the USA seem stupid and incompetent to the rest of the world.
Add this to Obama turning allies into enemies (Pakistan, Isreal, Mexico), and every sovereign country is thinking twice about getting involved with the USA for any reason.

There was never any intent to Fast and Furious other than to create evidence to show that the Mexican cartels were killing people with American guns. This is how Obama was working "behind the scenes" to increase gun control.
I agree, but it ain't going to happen. The Senate is controlled by the Democrats. Never in 1000 years will they convict Obama. They are as corrupt as he. As for the Republicans, they had better continue these investigations and make recommendations to the House, which will be rejected by the Senate. The issue NEEDS to stay alive for 2012 and it needs to be pushed in the campaign. Obama needs to answer for it.
My memory is not what it use to be. Bluto152L, I stand corrected. Prior to the election, in 1995, a government shutdown had occurred between the Republican Congress & Clinton. Clinton's approval rating fell during the shutdown. The public blamed Clinton for the shutdown. However, once ended Clinton's approval ratings rose to thei highest since his election. It helped him win reelection. Dole was a milquetoast candidate. Perot took votes from both Clinton and Dole.
People lost their lives with "Fast & Furious".

I would that the American public would react extremely negatively if it were discovered that Obama had a hand in this. The problem is whether the Liberal Media would give him another pass. Excellent point. WaPo, NYT, and most of Big Media are organs of the DNC. They will not dig on this one. We need a special prosecutor assigned, and the Republicans need to start calling for one, as Holder continues to stonewall.
