Congressman Darrell Issa Demands Answers on ‘Operation Gun Runner’
by AWR HawkinsOn March 28th, I had a post on the Big Government website that highlighted the details of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF) ‘Operation Gun Runner.’ This operation, sometimes called by the name ‘Fast and Furious,’ entailed selling thousands of guns to known Mexican criminals in the U.S., allowing the weapons to be carried into Mexico, and tracing the movement of the guns in hopes of catching major players in the Mexican Cartel.
The problem with this plan is that it didn’t work. Of the 2,000 to 2,500 guns that were sold, only 1,300 (approximately) have been recovered: which means that right now, as I type, 1,200 guns are passing hand to hand between cartel members and others in Mexico.
And as I pointed out on the 28th, at least one Border Agent – Brian Terry – died as a result of this nonsense, and it seems that hundreds of Mexican civilians have been killed as well.
Of course President Obama and Attorney General Eric Holder have no idea how this happened. Both of them deny authorizing ‘Gun Runner’ or ‘Fast and Furious,’ and seem shamefully indifferent to the crime and investigative complications that could arise from the thousands of guns the BATF allowed into Mexico.
Fortunately, Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) isn’t satisfied to sit back and wait for the administration to remember what they did or didn’t authorize. On March 16th he sent a letter to Acting Director Kenneth Melson, BATF, “requesting specific documents related to Project Gunrunner, its ‘Fast and Furious’ component, and records related to the death of Border Agent Brian Terry.”
Although the requested documents were to be turned over by March 30th, the BATF didn’t comply. So Issa has now gone a step further and issued a subpoena that clearly specifies the documents the Congressman wants to see, and expects to receive by April 13, 2011.
Among the documents subpoenaed are, “documents and communications relating to individuals responsible for authorizing the decision to ‘walk’ guns [into] Mexico in order to follow them and capture a ‘bigger fish,’” and documents highlighting “complaints or objections” by BATF Agents who viewed ‘Gun Runner’ and ‘Fast and Furious’ as foolish from the start.
Won’t it be great if Congressman Issa can find out who authorized these operations and why the objections of numerous BATF Agents were suppressed, among other things?
Clearly, somebody within the administration authorized the illegal sale of those guns to individuals with known cartel ties. And perhaps the same person, or somebody else, knew those illegal guns were then being smuggled across the border. As of now, all we know is that the BATF and the Justice Department knew about the operations. But thanks to Congressman Issa, we may know much more in the days immediately following April 13th.
I just hope that when the smoke clears and the details are evident, those who were behind ‘Gun Runner’ and ‘Fast and Furious’ find themselves judged by the strictest standards of the law. And if this goes all the way to top, I hope Issa and his colleagues won’t shy away from the “I-word” (impeachment).
For whoever authorized this mess waded into the waters of criminality and must be held accountable: both for the operation itself and for the lives lost as a result of it.

Once again, dead silence on this from the liberal press. This would be wall to wall coverage if it was a Republican president.
That plans about as smart as if the fire department started using gasoline to douse fires.
BATF?
I lost respect for them the day they invaded Texas and opened fire on innocent civilians in Waco, Texas.
I lost further respect for them, a few weeks later, when they incinerated those same innocents, and burned them alive. From that day forward, they have had zero credibility as far as I am concerned.
Go back and connect the dots.
Eric Holder came from that era, and has the absolute same mindset as Janet Reno once did.
They believe they are above the law, that they make the law, and that they are the law.
Definitely "will not" be holding my breath on this one…………………….. i feel a little blue just thinking about it.
Dear Mr. Issa, "We the People" have heard for months now your TALK about investigating 'this, that and the other' as regards the O and his Mao-Loving Marxist Camp. "Talk" is what occurs at a women's Coffee Klatch or in a men's Locker Room …while we know your plate is a tad full (over-flowing actually), please DO something. The O has enough impeachable offenses to decorate a Christmas Tree with. C'mon.
He could FOIA the request but history has shown it would be intercepted and 'lost'.
The Buck stops at Obama, his very own words will come back to haunt him, that is if he doesn't order the BATF to ignore the subpoena .Which very well could happen, then we'll see exactly how much power Issa has. Will be interesting to see this play out because those responsible for ordering this could be brought up on murder charges, just like the guy who sells drugs to someone and the next guy sells it to a third party and that third party dies they all get charged with murder.Only here we have many people who were murdered with these guns,so there should be plenty of murder charges to go around,ALL THE WAY TO THE TOP.IMHO
Please don't give the Wisconsin firefighters any ideas.
The list of supsects is a long one but I'm sure the cream will rise to the top, even if it is curdled.
I just hope that when the smoke clears and the details are evident, those who were behind ‘Gun Runner’ and ‘Fast and Furious’ find themselves judged by the strictest standards of the law.
And which Law would that be?
The law applied to conservatives?
or the Law applied to liberals?
I think today it is the latter don't you?
"And if this goes all the way to top, I hope Issa and his colleagues won’t shy away from the “I-word” (impeachment)."
LMFAO…Obama's clearly an undocumented worker, and that's not enough to get him removed from office, what in the hell makes you think some freaking guns smuggled across Mexico is gonna get him impeached…?!
Surely you jest…
It sounds like Barry and his brain trust really worked out a swell plan, typical of these clowns.
Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms should be a convenience store, not a government agency! Another freedom killing dept to be shut down…
Anyone remember a guy name Ollie North….?
That was back when liberals got mad about guns being shipped to criminals and guerrillas.
Now….eh... not so much.
Heh, heh… Reckon Issa saw that piece here, wherein we expressed our skepticism of his sincerity
about "investigating" anything except his donors pocketbooks, only a few days ago?
It would be nice to think we have that power, but there is a shadow of a doubt for me in that regard…
And we wait impatiently while the TEA steeps!
Happy Trails, everybody!
; )
If these government morons had installed a lojack in the stock of each weapon, perhaps we'd have a worthwhile operation.
But alas, no such forethought went into this.
Hoping to recover the said guns and catching bigger fish is sort of like letting arrested illegals go, in the hopes they will return for their court date. Fat chance.!!
Amazing, the level of incompetence, niavety, and stupidity.
Ann:-( ATF / Waco / Reno
OK Issa you got your,..little headline,…….
now go back to being mediocre.
We need to ask how much Obama knew and when did he know it! And Biden needs to be asked tough questions!
Some people need to go to jail, here!
The last (and first) time CNN reported on this story was March 4.
I have emailed them asking when they plan to follow up, considering the Urkel admin is now obviously shuckin' and jivin' on it.
I ain't holding my breath, just in case anyone's wondering.
This will probably be no more enlightening than King's investigation of mooslim extremists…
I have no faith in legitimate investigations when it comes to probing corruption in a progressive-run government. Criminals only inflict change when it threatens their livelihoods….
While the methods differ, the goals are the same…
Subpoenas are the only way to treat this unlawful Administration! Because the 2 lawyers in charge are adept at playing "legal games," Mr. Issa and Congress have to be proactively aggressive in handling them…… just you any criminal needs to be handled. ……….
We can't let up the pressure on the sabotage that we're experiencing. The plot is too deadly.
Remember….create a problem ("illegal" guns "pouring" into Mexico, especially "assault" rifles), and then "fix" it (more stringent gun laws).
Let's hope that this time it backfired on them. With the complicit sycophants in the msm remaining mum, maybe they'll get their way just yet. I read an article recently that stated the vast majority of guns going into Mexico are from other countries than the US. Hmmm…..wonder if these "other" countries might be Communists/Progressives, like say for instance, oh I don't know…….China?
+Hanzo+
The big picture of them partnering with Mexico, South America, Russia and the Middle East, combined with the daily sabotage of our Economy, needs to be busted wide open for the world to see. – - As long as we take a timid, patient attitude toward these sabateurs they will continue winning, and WE will lose big! …
Serve the subpoenas one after another and expose them on C-Span for the world to see!
Let's hope the TEA is just simmering.

This "Gunner-Gate" atrocity is big enough to take a lot of people down…… even this turd POTUS.
It's a horrible thing done by our government and all should be brought to justice. Issa is not my congressman, but he is right next to mine and I have been following this. He will be calling out the dog's.
Here's a great interview by Roger Hedgecock with Darrel Issa on said subject…. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrBbt6yxvFE
Ha ha ha….I mean damn, that sounds too plausible. +Hanzo+
i wonder how many of these guns will wind up in the hands of muslims jhadists who are now inside this country. this may very well be obamas checkmate.
It matters not who Issa calls out. Unless the "charges" get airtime and outrage in the MSM, it will simply be ignored and swept aside by all the Administration criminals involved.
Ann
hanzo, i have an ugly feeling that this manuever by obama is a lot more sinister than simply taking away our guns, first he'll take the guns then the jhadists who now have these weapons will come a callin. m.e. uprising, muslim brotherhood stepping in. everything seems to be going according to plan. our govt. won't name the enemy. the gov''t is our enemy. you know, its seems impossible that we have these kinds of dolts that do something as irresponsible and naive as this, although when you look at the gov't agencies and see how incompetent they all are, i guess it is simply a case of morons in charge. maybe they are not smart enough for it to be anything else. but who knows…
obama tried to distance himself from this by saying he has NO KNOWLEDGE of this…Mr. obama, the BUCK DOES STOP AT YOUR DESK. These people WORK FOR YOU so YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE for EVERYTHING THEY DO….Cut back on Golf and Numerous vacations and start paying more attention to your job that WE are paying you for……..Deny all you want Mr. obama but don't ever expect me to believe Anything you say as I KNOW you are an EXPERIENCED LIAR……..

Did you notice last week that Holder found himself and his DOJ "innocent" of any wrong doing in one of the gazillions instances of blatant racist legal actions?
Quel surprise……..
Guess we'll see, but congressional hearings tend to result in nothing more than face time for the politicians holding them.
I'm sure all the pertinent info sits on Urkel's desk – right beneath his Award for Transparency.
The family of Agent Terry should sue the hell out of the justice (?) department. Normally government employees are immune to lawsuits. We once had a case here where an officer did not use due diligence in his job and the court found he himself could be sued. Being reckless or being criminal should negate that immunity. The same should apply to Holder and everyone involved with Gunrunner.
And we’re not talkin’ about the 5’ Christmas Tree we put in our living rooms… we’re talkin’ about that 75 footer out in Rockefeller Plaza.
Go Congressman Issa! Screw this Administration to the wall with their own anti-gun petard.
Hey db,it dosen't seem quite as moronic if you consider it might have been for some ulterior motives, more like thuggish, in the commie/fascist/chicago way of "getting things done". Remember the "useful idiots" of Communism, our gov.'t seems to be busting at the seams with these types, willing to take a fall for the "greater good", just ask the REAL people in charge, starting with Soros. +Hanzo+
Patient heal thyself…..
Teflon leaders, every one of them. Phucking crooks…
"The problem with this plan is that it didn’t work. "
I am going to disagree with that BIGTIME. The problem with this plan is that government doesn't have the authority, which was clearly abused here, in the first place.
It is not for government to monitor, regulate or stop gun purchases here in the country. Ownership is a right, which makes sales and purchases also a right, and it shall not be infringed.
It is for government to determine who is allowed to enter into these united States and who is not, but It is not for American government to decide what goes into Mexico, that is for the Mexican government to deal with. America is free and if people aim to leave, taking their private property with them, here that right exists. Mexico cannot stop people from leaving these united States, though it can refuse entry if it chooses.
BATF&E didn't comply with requests for information? What a shocker! It didn't comply with law to begin with, like any other criminal organization, so why comply now? It was disturbing to hear Issa on FOX news because if you listen to his words closely, he all but absolves Obama before he even has the documents he requested. Pay particular attention to Issa's claims about Obama;s "orders of transparency". Impeachment? Issa isn't even looking to Obama from the start and his own words show that.
Congress is afforded the power of "oversight" right? Well, that has been made mean that Congress can look past, and give a pass to, law enforcement activities – especially when they break the law. Courts uphold Law Enforcement's capability of LYING in order to "stop crime" or "investigate crime".
There shouldn't even BE a BATF&E in the First Place! This whole program was manufactured to create the political atmosphere, the perception, of an "iron River" of guns flowing south. This was intended to be used to clamp down further on the Second Amendment here and a Mexican reporter went so far as to ask Obama when he was going to veto the Second Amendment. This happened, really happened, at a Calderon – Obama press conference just weeks ago!
Ask yourself this – Is government tasked with, empowered with, the capability to require a number on every inkpen, pencil and pieces of paper? How about Bibles, Torahs and Korans? Is it empowered to make you wait several days to take possession of them after purchase? How about deciding how many you can buy or own? Is it within its Constitutional authority to command Citizens to pay for permission slips to buy, own or use these items? Remember, Justice Scalia wrote that "the Second Amendment is no different" than the First.
Big Media is dancing around this debacle. We expect that, we know Big Media sweeps under the rug whatever it chooses and there is no mistake it tried to do that with GunWalker. Thanks goes to New Media, David Codrea and friends, and lets not forget courageous BATF&E whistle blowers for standing tall and refusing to just let this story die.
I believe Issa and Boehner and the rest of the Establishment Republican Party have been dragged into hearings and investigation kicking and screaming all the way. The ramifications of exposing this story are broad and far reaching in both size scope. It goes to the heart of how LEO of all brands does its job and the solution to this UnConstitutional fiasco, if blown wide open and exposed honestly, will ripple through government of all levels that makes the Japan Tsunami look like a normal tidal ebb and flow.
This scandal demonstrates, in so many ways, what is so very wrong with government itself in this country. From the local rural village part time cop to the deepest cover CIA Al Qaeda infiltrator, this issue affects them all. Government has the most incentive to protect the status quo and that is exactly what it is doing. Media is helping that happen by sweeping this under the rug.
If you value Liberty, government accountability and the Constitution itself – then research this subject and spread the word you find to everyone you know. This scandal is bigger than Watergate folks. It is the best example of what government corruption is that has come to light in my lifetime. We must not let government whitewater, er, whitewash, this criminal activity.
It is time to hold government accountable by holding individuals operating it accountable. Let's force this wide open folks. Let's refuse to let Big Media and Nanny government get away with this.
Right Ann, good point , so 527's time to buy some air time, this issue is a serious national security risk . I remember Comrade saying the buck stopped at his door, pound them on it.
onecornpone, that sentiment holds true when it is just one website, or a few, but when the Internet is on fire, they know they have to do something. That is what is going on with this. The New Media has been refusing to let it go. CBS decided to finally report on it so that it cannot be accused of ignoring it outright. Heck, even the Blaze says CBS broke the story – and shame on the Blaze for doing that. They have been shown how inaccurate such a report an accrediting actually is, yet they continue to do so.
Media and government would like nothing more than to put this in file 13 and they will if we let them. Watergate brought down and administration, this scandal has the potential to bring down some of the highest forms of corruption that politicians uses against us.
We The People have got to latch onto this and make it a central focus and common knowledge. We must not let this opportunity pass, or we deserve to be lorded over by kings wearing badges and robes.
You think it is "worthwhile" for government to micromanage and track exercise of inalienable rights?
I suggest you rethink your position on a deeper level. Lest you find yourself advocating a "lojack" in every book and inkpen, heck even every child.
Please, think it through by thinking outside the indoctrinated box of "guns being different". Rights are rights, period.
Obama's FED arms the cartels….and now wants to arm al qaeda…seems we have a lack of communication and a weasel in the whitehouse…
I was referring to this shipment of weapons to Mexico, ONLY.
Not as a US policy on tracking gun ownership.
I have a lojack in my laptop, btw..
Ann
Here is a great place to start with actual coverage of this unconstitutional fiasco. I know folks scoff at examiner stuff sometimes, but check the dates. This link is where the real chronicling of GunWalker resides.
http://www.examiner.com/gun-rights-in-national/da...
"No Knowledge of this" constitutes a dereliction of duty and childish incompetence.
Obama has nowhere to hide this time. There is no "present" vote that gets him out of it. There only exists a Congress and a Media that looks past it all (oversight) and refuses to hold accountable those guilty.
Ann,
This isn't about "shipments" from one government to another. This is about a Citizen buying a firearm, or a few firearms at a time, and themselves taking them across the border. It is about FFL holders ALERTING government to straw purchasers and being told to sell them the guns and then government BLAMING those sellers for the "flow". It is baout the use of "safety measures", just as you call for more of, to manufacture a "crisis" in order to further infringe on an inalienable right.
I ask you again, to please think it through. Remember, the road to hell is paved with good intentions and unintentional consequences actually matter.
Tell me, did government require a lojack in your laptop?
Oh wait, government already DOES require something of a low tech lojack, it's called a serial number! Additionally, it requires that number be associated with the seller and the buyer.
Question – Did it stop this problem? No? No! It FACILITATED IT!
Question – What makes you think a lojack would be any different.
Point of order – Shall Not Be Infringed.
Yes they do, and not only that, but government must take a HUGE step back because it has overstepped its authority in unacceptable ways!
We need more than hope this time Hanzo.
It has backfired, and on more than just this administration or just the BATF&E.
It has backfired on all of law enforcement itself.
Laws aren't being enforced, rights are being violated with impunity.
We must put a stop to it and this is the tool to force that happening!
We The People must USE IT!
I see you're passionate about this.
While the operation itself was ill-conceived, the ONLY way it would have made ANY sense, would have been if tracking devices were, imbeded in each weapon.
Otherwise, it seems pointless and potentially dangerous. Both turn out to be true.
Ann
Cruzin,
The very process used to facilitate this foolishness, serial numbers and background checks, is something the NRA helped impose upon us and still supports to his day.
527s and 401s are a great idea, but like government and media, some of them stand against Liberty too – even while playing as if they are defending it. We must not lose sight of that.
Every person who, under color of any statute, ordinance, regulation, custom, or usage, of any State or Territory or the District of Columbia, subjects, or causes to be subjected, any citizen of the United States or other person within the jurisdiction thereof to the deprivation of any rights, privileges, or immunities secured by the Constitution and laws, shall be liable to the party injured in an action at law, suit in equity, or other proper proceeding for redress, except that in any action brought against a judicial officer for an act or omission taken in such officer’s judicial capacity, injunctive relief shall not be granted unless a declaratory decree was violated or declaratory relief was unavailable. For the purposes of this section, any Act of Congress applicable exclusively to the District of Columbia shall be considered to be a statute of the District of Columbia.
These were semi-automatics, texas stomp.
Serial numbers and background checks and waiting periods are billed as a means to STOP guns from getting into the hands of those who "should not have them" and that whole farce is being exposed for what it is. Infringements. Government imposed these requirements, these infringements, with the help of lobbying groups who claim to be on the side of the Citizen and the rights, and then use them AGAINST us. That is exactly why they aren't authorized to have such power in the first place. Indeed, it is why the enumeration of the Second Amendment removes from the hands of government to decide whether the right is worth insisting upon in this first place (paraphrasing Scalia authored majority decision there).
Legal? Debatable.
Lawful? Not hardly.
If we close the border we don't have to worry about what is going on in Mexico. I guess this administration would find it acceptable to give boat loads of guns to our own gang members to see where they end up, too.
Exactly right Cowboy!
Right on, Ash. Unfortunately, the laws that are being enforced are done within PC parameters, that's how our Rights are trampled and so many criminals slip through the cracks(re: bill ayers, van jones, etc.). On top of it all, our "rehabilitation" facilities are no more than vocational schools for criminals to learn their trade more thoroughly. We don't just need to turn the economy around and kill progressivism once and for all, we need a Great Awakening to bring America back to it's roots. +hanzo+
AMEN!
I second you both, and Incompetano's right in there with 'em.
I got that T-shirt! Great conversation starter or, if you are on ferry in the Seattle area, a great way to ward off the loonies.
I HOPE that Issa gets to the bottom of this and the people responsible pay the proper price. But I DOUBT that this will happen. The administration will simply stonewall and nothing of consequence will happen.
The problem is that the Republicans don't have the killer instinct that the Democrats do. I'd like to think that I am wrong, but I don't think I am.
Just remember that Issa's subpeona, when ignored, will be enforced by the Justice Department.
The question is are Schumer and Biden trying to set up some special government sect within the US Government, here?
This has Biden finger prints all over it! He and a few other Senators have been the nation's leading haters of the second amendment and of Americans who indulge this right!
It is from these creeps with the MSM 's help that hate campaigns (discrimination campaigns) target firearms owners in the USA. The constant theme of the discrimination campaign is : Those People's Rights Are A Threat!" and any lies or twisted facts to create this illusion is fine by them!
The call to action is 'Remove Those People's Rights" for "public safety."And it's supposed to stand as "common sense."
A sneaky and persuasive discrimination campaign they run…but it can only work if Americans believe the lies from the THEME. And many Americans DO believe the theme messages, expecting the MSM won't lie to them about important things.
No doubt BATF leaders were getting a wink and nod from Biden and others, to go ahead and help this President on the gun issue. If Americans and Mexicans die liberals and leftists truly DON"T CARE! Their social progress requires some violence along the way! Bill Ayers makes that painfully clear!
Bolt action .50 calibers aren't fully automatic, Texas stomp. Pistols are also a part of this "operation". Semis dominated this, no doubt.
FFL's weren't selling to Illegal aliens, they were selling to people passing background checks and they alerted ATF about possible straw purchases and were directed to make the sales anyway Only to be then blamed for the sales afterward.
FFA legislation is an attempt to remind the feds that they don't have the authority to require serial numbers to begin – because they don't!
Was it a sting op? Well of course! LEOs do it all the time. And, this time, people are dead as a directresult. Some stayed here, some went over the border. You kid only yourself, and carry water for the government, if you think and propagandize otherwise.
Brian Terry was killed on the border by supposed "thieves" who "prey" on those trying to cross the border illegally. He was killed by a person armed with a firearm, one of many, that the ATF watched and directed across the border. The "sting" in play here was the CREATION of a perception that gun laws must be tightened here because their "laxness" here is the reason for the guns and the violence in Mexico. Ridiculous.
You fool yourself too if you think that no Zetas, or any others, like MS 13, are Citizens. Plenty are.
Rules, policies, as unconstitutional as they are, are imposed on regular Americans every day with the claim that they stop "illegal guns" (which is a unconstitutional bit of garbage itself). They do not stop anything, as I said, they facilitated this foolishness that was intended on really only further restricting the rights of Americans.
Tell me, how is it that Illegal Aliens were passing background checks? Sorry bro, but you got that one wrong. Multiple FFLs aren't going to sell to known illegals on an "assurance" from the ATF. Not Hardly.
This was not a rogue op. This was an average everyday run-of-the-mill op. From the DEA to the BATF&E to the local cop shop, they all do it – because they "can". And that is what has to stop. That is what must come out of all of this.
Claderon was salty and a ambassador has already resigned. Now which is it? Is it a rogue operation or was it in conjunction with the Mexican government? oops.
One more thing, it is because of ATF members themselves that this is all coming out. Whistle blowers from within are why this is as known about as it is now.
NOW you say they "were supplied by us". I ask you, who is "us". Teach me……
Valerie Jarrett, co-chair of Barack Obama's Transition Team, on Meet the Press, Nov. 10, 2008, said, "…president elect Obama is prepared to really take power and begin to rule day one."
That's how they see their role: forcing you to do what they want. Their way of thinking is that of tyrants, dictators, looters and thieves. Morally they are no different than Gaddafi, Mugabe, Saddam Hussein, or any of the assortment of other mentally ill sociopaths who've polluted the history of the human race. These are not good people.
"Clearly, somebody within the administration authorized the illegal sale of those guns to individuals with known cartel ties. And perhaps the same person, or somebody else, knew those illegal guns were then being smuggled across the border."
Well duh! And perhaps "the same person, or somebody else" was pleased to have the opportunity to use his/her position in BATF to work out a personally rewarding, win-win arrangement with Mexican criminals seeking to acquire some high quality weapons in the U.S.
I won't disagree with the "sense" it would make to track something. It just takes a warrant to do such a thing and it must focus on a particular individual as part of due process.
I am very passionate about this subject, as you suspect, because it cuts right to the heart of how our Individual Liberties are being snaked away, bit by bit, for our "safety".
It has to stop before Liberty is a thing of the past.
Interestingly, it is called the "criminal" justice system, huh?
Right on about the "rehabilitation" centers too. Hey, call it "education" and it gets more "support". I mean, who can be against "education" right?
PC certainly has just about everything upside down or backward these days. Maybe we should try "actual" correctness instead of "political" correctness…..
I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, all the weapons in question were going to MEXICO.
Did you miss that part?
Ann "-)
Issa has good intentions he just doesn't have any Balls.
Henry Waxman on the other hand has no brains, morals, or ethics, but he has big Balls.
So it's No Balls vs Balls.
Come to think of it, I don't see any Republicans with Balls
Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives is what we called the party committee at my frat.
Sarah Palin recently remarked that Republicans have the fighting instinct of sheep. She's 100% right, unfortunately.
It is not for the government to mind what individuals buy or sell. Likewise, It is not for the government to stop a free person from taking their property out of the country if they so choose. It simple isn't within its Constitutional Authority.
See, the interest balancing approach, which is what you are trying to justify, hold merit only outside inalienable rights. The right to keep and bear arms is a set of inalienable rights. It can be a good idea all day long, but it doesn't matter.
It is for a government of a destination nation to decide who will enter and with what. We are not a nation with a fence to keep people in, we are a free nation, which can use fences to keep those people and things out as so chosen.
What this means is simple. If Mexico thinks there is an Iron River going south, it is for them to handle at the border. If this country thinks undesirable goods are coming north, so too is it our responsibility to address that at the border.
I assure you Ma'am, I didn't miss anything. We have a Second Amendment and a Fourth Amendment and a Fifth Amendment and none of them are to be forgotten or missed.
Just because something might seem like a god idea doesn't translate into government having the authority to impose it. There are things that stand in the way of that very thing, and they are called rights.
" We must not lose sight of that. "
I haven't , this is a issue the MSM won't touch with any depth. I'm afraid establishment Republicans won't touch it either ,so it needs some other form of getting it out there, ala 527's, it worked against Kerry.
Someday it's gonna' be re-education, huh?
+Hanzo+
You know Hanzo, I really am starting to understand what my grandfather meant when he History will repeat itself until we learn to learn.
Cruzin77,
I am thinking that word of mouth is what this one needs.
Every campaign stop, on both sides of the aisle, someone needs to ask about this. At every turn, folks need to talk about this, and refuse to let it fall asunder – just like the NBC situation.
The Kerry scenario worked both ways, it served as a point of division that both sides used and abused. This is a great deal larger than Kerry and his failure to sign the 180 as he promised. It has more import than one corrupt man. This is about basic government premise and it being used for political ends via intentional misleading and abuse of usurped authority – infringements upon that which itself says shall not be infringed.
I won;t disagree that 527 and 401 efforts will help, but more is needed. This has to become common knowledge.
That's right, sounds like your grandfather is a wise man. Another of my favorite's- "Nothing is new under the sun", we have to remember everything's been done before, and, just as your grandfather said, we must learn from our and other's mistakes. +Hanzo+
"I am thinking that word of mouth is what this one needs."
Ah, one of my favorites , seems to work well.

(It was foolish and MAY have ulterior motives. We will see)
Nothing will come of this.

And that's the way it is, in April of 2011..
.
My point exactly.
