Montana Republicans to the Federal Government: ‘Don’t Tread on Me’
by AWR HawkinsAlthough last year’s midterm elections dealt Democrats a devastating blow at the federal level, what has liberals reeling now are the ramifications of power Republicans accumulated on the state level as well. Just consider their reaction to the union-adjusting policies of the newly elected governors in Ohio and Wisconsin (John Kasich and Scott Walker), and it’s evident that the outcome of November 2010 continues to be more than many Democrats can handle.
Yet the key battleground for a clash between the political status quo, which is always good for Democrats, and an active conservatism, which is always good for liberty, looks like it may take place hundreds of miles away from either Kasich or Walker, in a state that still symbolizes the strength and courage of the Wild West: namely, Montana.
Yes, it’s there that the battleaxe of Tea Party conservatism is crashing down with a boom on liberalism, progressivism, and every other “ism” that threatens to the limit the intrinsic (and inalienable) rights of the citizens in that state.
The Associated Press (AP) recently bemoaned the fact that Republicans emerged from the November 2010 elections with a “supermajority in the Montana House.” Which means they now control both chambers in that state. This also means that words like “nullification,” phrases like “states’ rights,” and theories like Thomas Jefferson’s description of the union of states as a “compact” are not only spoken in the legislative halls, they are shouted from the rooftops. (Jefferson’s view on the nature of the union, best set forth in his “Kentucky Resolutions,” is that states do not look to the federal government for the cause of their existence rather the federal government exists because the states chose to delegate certain powers to it.)
In Montana, they are trying to right the ship by restoring a constitutional balance of powers that constrains the federal government’s habit of infringing on the rights of the people.
What the newly elected Republicans in Montana are saying is that they know their constitutional options, and that those options haven’t been recognized or respected by the federal government for some time now.
It appears that such options, embodied in the rights “reserved to the States respectively,” are about to be re-asserted one by one, as they re-enter the political lexicon. And what’s bothering the left is the fact that such a re-assertion flips their worldview on its head, because it reserves powers to the people that the federal government cannot control.
I guess you could say Montana is sending a strong message to the federal government, and that message is “Don’t Tread on Me.”

Hehehe. I really think the Public Sector Gov. Unions are Toast.
Obummer and pals have allowed the Rich vs. Poor fight to evolve into the Tex Payers vs. the Gov. Union Parasites and the parasites are about to lose. To bad it came to the point where the American Tax Payer had little left for the parasite class to steal. Better late then never.
I need to buy some land in Montana.
Good to hear Montana is doing… stuff… don't get me wrong I like hearing about such things but what the heck are they doing? This post is like one of those "before the commercial break" teases that leaves you wondering what the story is.
I know, I know, links. But it'd be nice if some of the details were actually here in the article. *Shrugs*
Montanans, as a rule want left alone.
We are highly embarrassed, both by our milquetoast Governor (although he does try, bless his little ole heart), and our inept Senators, one of whom played a high profile role in the Health Care Bil (drunken Max Baucus). We are further embarrassed by the president that you all elected, but are working hard to change that in 2012.
Don't Tread on Me.
Time for me to move. Screw Massachusetts and their taxes… More freedom anywhere than in Massachusetts.. Nh used to be nice, maybe that will change for the better this year…
I've thought throughout these protests that it is a state affair and the Feds should butt out. The Governors have more backbone than the Feds do when it comes to telling the hard truth instead of blowing smoke.
Can I have an AMEN????!!!!
And we all thank you for those efforts!!
Don't Tread On Me is nice, but I think Jam It Comrades is more appropriate in the Age of Obama.
Who would be the next state to be served with a federal lawsuit? And the winner is………..Montana!!!!
While I wholeheartedly applaud and APPROVE the actions of Montana—I suspect Obama and the Evil Eric Holder are lurking with some type of lawsuit?
Thank You Montana.
Why the shift…?…IMO, because people have had a chance to see the real democRATS, well now let me rephrase that. The problem is the RATS have not only gone deficit, spendthrift crazy, but have operated BEHIND CLOSED doors on a number of very large measures, whereas "we have to pass the bill to find out what's in it" ala San Fran Nan ((( SPIToey ))).
I'm glad Montana is doing it right…. Look at what's going on here in Arkansas at taxpayer expense…
Academia and the New Civility in Little Rock, Arkansas
The University of Arkansas-Little Rock will be hosting a lecture entitled “Teabaggers and the American Revolution” on Tuesday, March 1st. The speaker is Johanna Miller Lewis, Ph.D., who is a tenured history professor at the university.
According to the university’s own website, the lecture will be as follows:
“From television personality Glenn Beck to Representative Michelle Bachmann and former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, the conservative right has embraced the Boston Tea Party as a symbol of rebellion against taxation and government intervention that led directly to the American Revolution. However, a close reading of the events leading up to the American Revolution suggests otherwise. This lecture will examine the numerous interpretations of the tax revolts and struggle for political power that really led the colonies to rebel against Great Britain.”
Considering the left’s new emphasis on civility, one has to wonder about the title of this lecture. After all, is Professor Lewis is anything other than colossally ignorant about the subject she’s lecturing on, she must surely realize that “Teabagger” is a pejorative of a sexual nature. Perhaps she is colossally ignorant, or perhaps she simply trusts that since she is presenting to a university audience there is no need for “civility.”
It is interesting to note that Professor Lewis’s personal website features a photo of the learned doctor herself shaking hands with none other than former President William Jefferson Blythe Clinton. The website does not indicate whether President Clinton may at some point have taken Professor Lewis aside to give her personal instruction in the nature of “teabagging.”
If you are interested, the full presentation from the University of Arkansas-Little Rock lists the title of the lecture and full information about its content on its official website. You can find it at http://ualr.edu/cahss/index.php/2011/02/08/evenin... .
Additionally, Professor Lewis’s website helpfully includes her contact information as follows:

Thanks Montana, beautiful country and freedom loving people!
…and they…the Progressives…are the ones that are creating the "Class Warfare", and drawing the line in the sand.
Winds of change are now creating a "sandstorm" that is blurring their lines and making them insignificant!!
AMEN!
Everything is illegal in Massachusetts and everything that moves is taxed.
I think Montana's population is about to grow!
Yes to states rights! Down with the controlling hegemony of national socialism. These ponzy schemes must end.
ROFLOL…!!! HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
; )
ME TOO!!!
.
I feel your pain. We in California can only hope the people wake up and split the State into at least 3 parts. Or we could start a War with Mexico and when Mexico surrenders make them take California. Heck, everyplace South of Lodi already looks like Americas version of Tijuana excluding Newport Beach and Beverly Hills.
Yeah…..and change the snake to a python swallowing a Democrat!
thanks, corn, just trying to be helpful…
“Nullification”
The perfect ingredient for this obama-nation recipe……..
I hope you have a screen shot of the original that you are quoting. I visited your link and it currently states. “The Tea Party and the American Revolution.” If you can not prve that it actually said "teabaggers", I ask you to remove this post as it appears to be nothing more than trying to stir up trouble where none exists. I am willing to retract my comment if you can show me the post you are quoting.
As a former Montanan, I'm glad to hear it. But…where are the examples? This article in an introduction without the body of the writing. ??
I LOVE it, let's take a vote on which Dem we wann'a feed to the python first…
Should we start out with the little ones and call them appetizers, then work our way up?;-D
Whaddya think Dennis Kocenich weighs? He looks like he'd be in the appetizer category.
; )
Honey. I didn't vote for this president. Don't tread on me.
Just feed 'em in FEET first, so you can see the expressions on their faces.
I vote Pelosi. No, wait, Hillary. Or Schumer. Oh, heck, I can't make up my mind.
Obama has to come first……..and we know where to find him: http://www.cartoonstock.com/lowres/smb070403l.jpg
Ooooohhh gott'a be Chuckie… YEP he's a winner!
; )
Come to NH. We just threw out all the leftist loser/liars in November. We just need to get rid of the Governor to have a clean sweep (coming in 2012).
Flush the leftists!
Flush Obumbler!
Live free or die in NH!
The python would choke to death trying to fit Obama's dumbo ears in it's gullet.
If you can't find him ask his travel agent where he is.
Well Cowboy, you guys out west gotta work harder. Better yet, vote 3,4 or 5 times.
Somebody has to counterbalance and nullify the votes from this POS (ILL) I live in.
I heard that.
Off topic:
Gaddafi?
Something BIG is brewing.
How do I know?
Not because I am smart, or well connected.
I use a little logic and common sense.
I spoke to a friend of mine this evening who lives near MacDill Air Base in Florida where CentCom happens to be located. He told me that they are flying sorties 24/7 out of there, nonstop for the past four days.
He told me the only time he has seen anything like this, was the week prior to our opening salvo in Afghanistan.
Dang! You and Corn are just MEAN! Don't you believe in "animal rights"? Or at least not being cruel to the poor things? If I saw a cute little python tryin' to eat a snake… err… Democrat, I would shoot the poor thing. Can you imagine the indigestion? If it didn't die from the toxicity, of course…
Oooohh $#aT, Jamie… remind me to never get crossways with you…
; )
Schmuckie it is…
Guess you need more than one python to dispose of the snakes…
You can run but you can't hide. The $68 million monument to Ted is to be paid by all of us.
Where does one go to procure a full grown python, do ya know?;-D
The only place I've seen em is hangin around the necks of ''rock musicians"!
.
Start with Moo Chelle – that should make the rest of 'em easy by way of comparison…
Not to worry, Galt. Conservative pythons are tough as nails and actually enjoy it!
They have the same expression on the other end.
Ass Faces!
Let's start a python farm.
No GaltFan, she eats a toxic diet, she might kill our pet python a'fore we even got started.
I think we should have her and lil o sit on their throne with their crowns on and watch the
entire affair.
; )
In Maine we now have a Republican Governor that is going to deny assistance to illegals and a Republican Congress that will back him as well as the people, a good start.
Smother 'em in barbecue sauce, just to make it easier.
The idea is to get the trolls and lurkers to read the searing truth for themselves…
and it increases traffic to the good guys…
Yes, libs HATE when individuals exert their natural rights OVER an overbearing central gov't. Libs are by nature, anti-choice.
I think your right, if they're like other snakes they might only eat one ConCritter per
year, Hell we'll never get them out at that rate.
Reckon we could cross a python with a rattler?;-D
I have some land in the corner of one of the farms I can free up.
We need investors, reckon we could hire Bernie to work on investors from his
jail cell?

The Second American Revolution, This is a message from the TEA PARTY.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKFKGrmsBDk&fe....
"If the freedom of speech is taken away then dumb and silent we may be led, like sheep to the slaughter."
George Washington
I yield to your superior judgment (again)…
There is a big, fat snake in Venezuela right now, but that might constitute cannibalism on his part…
Democrats = freshly beached mullets flopping for all they are worth…..
Obamabots = chickens with heads chopped off running like crazy right before they flop over……
Soros minions = Satan's little helpers/useful idiots
Grazie, oh wise one… Of course you are correct…
YOU WIN…. Best on the string there sis… ROTFLMDAO, HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA
; )
Didn't know you were from Montana; I knew there was something right about you. I grew up in Great Falls and went to MSU – GO BOBCATS! My mother is a little harder on the Governor than you. She is more than just not a fan. Really doesn't like his story of voter intimidation on an Indian reservation that he laughs about. What a loser.
Take care and stay warm.
No AlSando,
Each state will be needing every patriot available to stand ground where they are currently cause like Phyllis Dillers mama said, " this things gonna get ugly". Notice the renewed vigor for gun control, well control man.
NOOOOOOO…………. Let's argue and fuss about it!
Are you a party pooper tonight?; D
Yup. Amen
I have teeth, you have a gun…
Consider me "pooped"…
That much concentrated sulfur would harm the python.
Maybe we can scare up a govt grant – umm,… wildlife research.
I'll train the snakes personally. Any democrat mentions govt "investment", "working families", green jobs, or tax hikes of any kind, they're goin' down faster than you can say Ronald Reagan.
LMAO, I'll remember that sometime when you're givin' me $#!T!!!
; )
Be still my beating heart.
I know, I know… I have a lake we can get some kind of USDA Pigford-like
money for ''wet-land rehabilitation".
YEP, I'd like to offer for your consideration any CONcritter that utters the words
SUSTAINABLE AND/OR COMPROMISE!
Dang it, seems like there's one other S word that I always hate but I can't
remember it right now…
; )
I'll forget – even if you try to remind me… ;-p',',',',
Obama will be seen as a hero for arresting Gay-Toffee and putting him on trial..
Obama is already the Caliph.. Now he projects his power…
You have a couple of Rino's in the Senate who are due for replacement.
Trolls seem to be a bit scarce today.
<sniffle>

Steve it looks like the university had it scrubbed, this person went to the site and took a screenshot. You can also copy the url from the university website and /cache at google to see if they changed it. It may have happened before a google bot made it there…
We'll see just how serious the Montanans are when the feds threaten to cutoff highway funds, education funds, farm subsidies, Medicare payments, Medicaid payments, Social Security payments, close military bases and begin mass arrests of people for refusing to pay income taxes in retaliation.
If they still say "Don't Tread on Me" and not "By Your Leave, Sir!" then maybe we all have a chance. Our forefathers pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor knowing that if they were caught they would be executed for treason. Franklin certainly understood this when he said: "If we do not hang together then surely we will hang separately!"
It's past time to overthrow the ObamaNation…phuck elections…we're losing our govt and the world to infi'ltraitors…how much more damage are you willing to eat…suggest a gentle overthrow…they are treading on us…the whole world is…get up or die under their boots and debt…
States need to cut spending, then in turn deny any monies offered to them by the Federal Government. Then the states can pretty much do as they like without being forced by the Feds who threaten to withhold money, just like our forefathers intended.
Go Montana!
More states need to stand up for themselves against the idiotic federal government. I am so sick of how the idea of States Rights has been trampled on in this country. The federal government only exists because the states allow it to, not the other way around. We are not provinces or territories of some central authority.
Social justice.
During the (lack of) debate last March when the health care debacle was passed, I wrote baucus regularly, along with several other demoncRAT senators. They are such turds. Because of this now, I get emails from baucus telling me what a great job he is doing by all the bills he sponsors….. BARF!
Sounds like your state has a fighting chance… as a Kalifornian…… we are lost.
no vinegar-based BS… a nice, juicy molasses based sauce.
Sounds good, but no cigar sis. I'll think of it in the middle of the night.
Thanks for starting this fun string of comments. You're a hoot, and I had
a blast with your python idea, as did many others.
A smile at the beginning and end of the day is always good.
.
A constitutional republic only works with the consent of the governed…consent denied!
Right on Montana!
We need to use the word communist instead of democrat because that's what they are, that's the kind of government they want,we call them socialist which is really being to kind to them, now go back and read this article again and every time you see the word democrat replace it with the word communist,it fits them to a tee.
I agree with what you're saying. But if the feds think they'll get away with all of that, ESPECIALLY the mass arrests you refer to, I think the federal government will be in for a rude awakening. If anything, I think it will finally wake people up to see what kind of federal government we have. There will be massive protests, and not of the left wing socialist variety that is going on in Wisconsin right now.
Of course, this is all dependent on the idea that people can turn away from Charlie Sheen's latest outburst for a few minutes.
It's disgusting what we've allowed our federal government to turn into.
Thanks to the both of you, ladies. I haven't had this much fun since last election night.
Love Montana — Big Sky country, not Big government.
How'd Schweitzer get in there as governor? Must be the hat.
.
I recently went to NH and saw a sign that read: WE FIRED CAROL CHE' PORTER. (ie lefty Carol Shea Porter)
I loved it!!!! Even Maine has gone Republican although there are still some progressives in Augusta, and of course they still embrace those rino girls Snowe and Collins, but the state government itself is trying to get itself back on track with the first Republican governor in decades. I wish him luck!
This is what happens when we don't see each other for a while………Absolute Insanity!!!
Oh, I do that "middle of the night remembering", too. Arg!
I used to live in Hamilton Mt for a couple of years…. I find most people just want to live their lives, and love their freedom. Nothing wrong with that, and if MT is telling the Gov "Don't Tread On Me"….. Well, I say great! I may become a resident there again! Although last time I lived there, there weren't much for jobs…..
You Started It! :^D
Thanks, we'll definitely have to do it again.
Yup, like the movie 'tail wags the dog'…..
Better not to hanged at all and just hang the Marxist libs…
Thanks to you knuckles, we should do more of this, and your com-
ment got it all started.
I had a blast, and look forward to the next one.
; )
They don't like the look of that flag. LOL
Montana has a difficult row to hoe. I wish them well.
Maybe Holder would be stupid enough to serve it in person? We can only hope…
I went to college in Boston. I now live in Texas. You will be happy if you leave. You will be happier when you arrive in Montana, so long as you don't mind harsh winters (I do mind them!).
Do it.
Maybe in Texas there is still the spirit of individualism (my Texas friends sure seem to have it) but this is a country that allows its children to be frisked at airports, votes for politicians who think that observing the Bill of Rights is optional and has allowed the feds to build huge national databases, tap their phones without a warrant, imprison people without charges and throw money around like it's worthless (which will be true soon enough).
Call something a crisis or an emergency and most people seem to think that it's their patriotic duty to surrender their liberty and their money. I just hope that the rude awakening that your talking about will be the feds and not us.
