Dr. David Janda

David H. Janda, M.D. is an orthopedic surgeon based in Ann Arbor, Michigan and a member of a nine-member orthopedic surgery group. In addition, Dr. Janda is the Director and founder of the Institute for Preventative Sports Medicine, based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, which is the only health care cost containment organization of its kind in North America. Dr. Janda’s academic career has been highlighted by many awards and distinctions. In the early years, he was one of the winners of the Westinghouse Science Talent Search Competition, which was conducted in Washington, D.C. In addition, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree majoring in Chemistry and in Economics and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. He obtained his M.D. degree from Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago and served as one of the leaders within the medical school community as a member of the Senate for a three-year duration. Dr. Janda then completed an internship and residency at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, and then completed a fellowship in shoulder reconstructive surgery and sports medicine in London, Ontario, Canada.

Dr. Janda, in addition to being a clinical orthopedic surgeon, has also distinguished himself in the research arena. One of his more notable works is based on an injury prevention analysis in the most popular team sports in the United States. Dr. Janda was the lead investigator in a series that was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. The study completed by Dr. Janda and the research team realized a 98% reduction in injuries, along with a 99% reduction in health care costs. Based on an independent analysis by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the study translated into a prevention of 1.7 million injuries a year in the United States with a savings of two billion dollars in acute health care costs per year.

After leaving the University of Michigan, Dr. Janda founded the Institute for Preventative Sports Medicine. Dr. Janda, through the Institute, has brought together leaders in injury prevention and sports medicine, and continues to produce high quality work that has an impact on the everyday lives of the public at large. Dr. Janda has been awarded the clinical research award by The American Orthopedic Society of Sports Medicine. The Canadian Academy of Sports Medicine has awarded him, the R. Tait McKenzie Award, which is given for outstanding clinical research on an international basis. He has also received recognition by the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons for his video presentations and research. In addition, Dr. Janda has had the opportunity to present before a sub-committee of Congress, which led to the utilization of preventative methods to reduce injuries within the Federal

Government system. Dr. Janda’s research has been given wide exposure by the electronic, as well as print media, and has gained wide public acknowledgement.

Dr. Janda was appointed by the former Bush Administration to the Board of the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control. He also was appointed to the National Institute of Health Trauma Research Task Force. Governor John Engler has appointed him to the Governor’s Council on Health, Fitness and Sports for the State of Michigan, as well as Chairman of the Advisory Group on the Prevention of Sports Injuries. Dr. Janda is the author of “The Awakening of a Surgeon” and “The Power of Prevention Handbook” which chronicle his efforts in the field of preventative Medicine.

The books he has authored chronicle his efforts in the field of preventative sports medicine and outlines his approach on how to create a more available and more affordable health care system. He and the book, “The Awakening of a Surgeon”, have been featured guests on the Oprah Winfrey Show and his research and prevention based studies have been featured on many network television, radio, newspaper and magazine presentations. These presentations have empowered the public by providing families and communities prevention information that can be used on an immediate basis to become safer and healthier.

ObamaCare: Fighting On

by Dr. David Janda

On Sunday morning, March 21st, I sent an e-mail to a handful of individuals, including Mike Flynn of Big Government.com, who have been very supportive of my efforts in informing people, family and businesses on Prevention, cost containment and health care reform. The topic was the impending passage of Obama Care and the stripping of Freedom and Liberty from every American which will be the end result.

One of the people I contacted was, Dennis Gartman. One of the nation’s and world’s leading financial analysts, investors and financial public educators through his work in the media.  Dennis is the founder of The Gartman Letter….a daily financial road map for corporations, individuals, investment funds and governments. Dennis asked if he could include my e-mail in The Gartman Letter. Below is Dennis’s article concerning my e-mail.

GENERAL COMMENTS ON THE CAPITAL MARKETS ON ONE WELL KNOWN DOCTOR’S PERSPECTIVE ON HEALTH CARE:

Our friend, Dr. David Janda, is a nationally well known orthopaedic surgeon in Ann Arbor, Michigan, involved in delivering health care for 29 years.

David’s a clinical researcher in Prevention and Health care cost containment and he founded The Institute For Preventative Sports Medicine which is the only health care cost containment organization of its kind in North America. According to the Federal government, one of his studies has lead to the prevention of 1.7 million people from being injured every year in the U.S. and saved $2 billion in health care costs per year.

David also wrote a bestselling book….The Awakening of a Surgeon…… featured on The Oprah Winfrey Show and it’s been referred to as a “Weapon of Mass Instruction” as it tells people and families how to take control of their health care and to free themselves from the insurance companies, from the HMO industry and most importantly from federal bureaucrats.

That being said, David wrote to us last evening as the health care legislation was making its way to the House floor. He’s told us in the past about the ills involved in this legislation, but now it has passed and it has come to this. We believe David’s thoughts, as a physician of some renown to be worthy of our clients’ collective attention, He wrote:

It’s Déjà vu All Over Again ……TARP and Blair House

by Dr. David Janda

blairhouse

As a surgeon, at least until ObamaCare goes into effect, I have been trained to dissect issues and results into their component parts. My current focus is on the similarities between the two biggest missed political opportunities over the past two years:

  1. Senator McCain’s suspension of his campaign to fly back to D.C. to work out a “Bipartisan” solution to the TARP fiasco. By compromising his fiscal principles and NOT drawing a line in the sand….he lost the Public.  It was the beginning of the end of his Presidential bid and opened the door for the election of Barrack Obama.
  2. The attendance of Republican leadership ( the same leadership that supported the TARP fiasco above) at the recent” Bipartisan” Health Summit at Blair House.  This smoke and mirrors event purported to compare Republican ideas with the dogma of Obama, Pelosi and Reid.  The event confused and misled the public.  By attending the event, Republicans snatched defeat from the jaws of victory in their opposition to the Obama’s use of our health care system to implement socialist reform.

Rather than being mesmerized by the “illusion” of Bipartisanship at Blair House, the GOP leadership should have walked past Blair House, marched to local clinics and hospitals, and listened to doctors, nurses and patients on the front line of health care.  This could have sent a powerful message to every American and delivered a death blow to ObamaCare.  The symbolism could have ended the debate once and for all.  Picture this:  the Democrats sequestered in a government building talking to themselves, versus The GOP hand in hand with The American People.

It should be noted that some Republicans opposed the Blair House meeting and were pushing for a grassroots frontal assault.  Congressman Thad McCotter and a handful of other GOP members advocated for this action.  I believe this approach would have brought victory to all who support Freedom and Liberty.

ObamaCare: The Slaughter House Three

by Dr. David Janda

In Kurt Vonnegut’s 1969 novel, Slaughterhouse Five, the main character, Billy Pilgrim, is an American POW who hides in a meat cellar as Dresden is being fire bombed.

dresdengermany

In 2010, the Slaughterhouse Three, Obama, Pelosi and Reid, shove every American in a meat cellar as they fire bomb America with their rationing-based health care plan. ObamaCare is a plan designed to strip Freedom and Liberty from every American.

Obama, Pelosi and Reid now have decided to avoid an up/down House vote on the Senate Bill and to enforce the “Slaughter House Rule”. In other words, when you do not have the votes, just change the rules, pass the changes to the bill and pretend you passed the “real” bill. Previously, the public was outraged that members of Congress did not read the bill prior to voting. This is even worse. With this latest charade, Obama, Pelosi and Reid are forcing House members to pass the bill without voting on the bill. …So much for a democratic republic and The Constitution.

The latest version of ObamaCare is troubling on many fronts. ObamaCare takes control of every American’s health care life. This plan would not improve the current system, and is fatally flawed because it:

  • Rations and denies access to healthcare. Denying access to healthcare is the most inhumane and unethical means of cutting costs;
  • Costs $1 TRILLION ( $100 Billion more than The Senate Bill) ;
  • Creates over 110 Federal Agencies, commissions and boards;
  • Creates The Health Insurance Rate Authority….a direct violation of States’ Rights;
  • Establishes a “ Comprehensive Database” on Americans;

Blair House Summit: Obama’s Moses Moment…Not so much!

by Dr. David Janda

Last Thursday, February 25th, the Obama Administration staged a ‘Health Care Summit’ at Blair House. It was to be the President’s President “Moses Moment,” when e would part the seas and bring the Republicans, Democrats and Our country together and get everyone on board his “much maligned” Federally Run Health Care Program. (ObamaCare 2.0). His approach would be to “Listen,” particularly to The Republicans and Independents, and then part the Seas of Conflict and pass through to the Promised Land of a compromise. Well, it was over, finally over, after 7 hours of heavy winds. The event showed Obama less like a Moses parting the Red Sea, and more like a deadly tsunami poised to wreak havoc on American shores.

Obama Health Care Overhaul

On his walk from The White House to The Blair House earlier in the morning, Mr. Obama declared he was going “to listen.” He listened, but not so much. When the meeting was over it turned out that his soliloquy lasted over 122 minutes, The Democrats spoke 135 minutes, and The Republicans were “allowed” to speak for 111 minutes (30% of the entire meeting). So it is official, he is not The Listener in Chief. When asked about his lack of listening ability and his penchant for wanting to listen to his own voice, Mr. Obama responded, “I don’t count my time because I am…The President.” This is the official 2010 version of “Let Them Eat Cake.”

Unfortunately for Mr. Obama, the week’s health care rollout did not start off well, when on Monday he posted a new ObamaCare 2.0 on The White House website. This Plan was eerily similar to a “worst of” compilation of excerpts from the House and Senate Health Care Plans. This Plan did not have any input from Republicans or Independents. Isn’t it odd that ObamaCare 2.0 was posted on the site — without a Press Conference? This Administration has a Press Conference when he sneezes, but no such fanfare for what the Administration claims is the most important domestic issue. The teleprompter must have developed Swine Flu, or maybe Mr. Obama held off on the press event because he would have to answer questions on HIS health care plan from that pesky press.

Health Care Reform: The Dog That Was Not Allowed To Bark

by Dr. David Janda

Last week, Congressman Thad McCotter introduced a Bill HR 4500, The Freedom From Rationed Health Care Act, that invalidates a little known, hidden part of the Stimulus Bill. That hidden part of The Stimulus Bill created the rationing and enforcement boards.  Significantly, this “minor” fiscal trim makes the first part of ObamaCare null and void.

RESET_Button

On November 7th, 2009, Speaker Pelosi marched to the podium and paraded her lap dogs to the microphone to proclaim “Victory” for herself, her Democratic House colleagues, and President Obama.  What about every other American? The “Victory” was the passage of the second part of ObamaCare, “The Health Care Bill.”  That’s right, the second part of ObamaCare is the 1,990 page bill that created 118 new boards, commissions, offices and bureaus. The same bill that will be paid for with (1)  $740 billion in tax increases,  (2)  a cut in Medicare to Seniors by $500 Billion, and (3)  a cost shift of $34 Billion to States in unfunded mandates.

This “Victory” was Pelosi’s and President Obama’s second victory on the health care front.  The first occurred under the cloak of darkness and obfuscation, in February 2009.  Hidden in The Stimulus Bill and passed into law were the ominous Obama, Pelosi, Reid rationing and enforcement health boards.

The Grinches Who Will Steal Your Health Care

by Dr. David Janda

After reviewing the latest version of health care reform emanating from “the greatest deliberative body in the world”, The Senate, I was transported to Whoville, target of The Grinch…..from this point forward renamed America. It would appear that “Your mean ones,”   Mr., Ms and Mr. Grinch (Obama, Pelosi and Reid) have heard and learned nothing from the town hall meetings and from all of the e-mails, phone calls, faxes and letters from ALL of us Whos.

grinch_santa

The latest version of the Grinches’ health care reform is a carbon copy of the rationing of health care that passed the House in November. The core and the heart is three sizes too small in both versions, and cuts costs by denying and rationing care, the most inhumane and unethical means of cutting costs. However, Washington’s Grinches have added a couple of “presents” to further harm all of us Whos.

The Grinches’ first “present” is to “allow” everyone in Medicare, or who will soon be in Medicare, to pay for a larger percentage of the costs of this beast. How special is that? The Grinches Obama, Pelosi and Reid have decided to cut Medicare by $500 Billion over ten years to pay for their reform package, even though millions more seniors will be on Medicare in ten years. Let’s look at the data that the Grinches refuse to acknowledge.

ObamaCare: Let the Rationing Begin

by Dr. David Janda

Last week,  the Federal Government Ivory Tower trumpeted important news.  One of its illustrious Task Forces has decided that women in their 40’s would be the first to experience “Medical Darwinism.”

breast_cancer_screening

The United States Preventive Services Task Force, comprised of 16 appointees, decreed that:

1.       Women in their 40’s no longer need routine yearly mammograms

2.       Women aged 50-74 are to have mammograms only every other year

3.       Self breast exams are no longer to be done at any age

Of note, this Task Force does NOT have even one member who is a cancer specialist or oncologist, let alone a breast cancer specialist. This panel based its recommendations NOT on comprehensive new clinical studies or research, but rather on computer projections of certain data points.  A review of previous recommendations by the same Federal Government reveals that these recommendations are diametrically at odds with recommendations made just six months ago. So, what changed in six months?

Debate on PelosiCare: Crunch Time Tonight in DC

by Dr. David Janda

It is crunch time tonight in Congress. Speaker Pelosi is moving towards a full floor vote on the Obama/Pelosi Health Care Plan up for a vote. At the time of publishing, votes are expected around 8 or 9pm EST. I received a call early this morning that my Orthopaedic Services were in demand.  Apparently, the Speaker, the President’s Chief of Staff Rahm Emmanuel and their staffs have been “breaking arms of anyone and everyone in sight that is on the fence about The Bill.”  These Enforcers have put Freedom, Liberty and constituent representation aside.

capitolatnight

Do your congressmen/women have any idea what is in this 1990 page Bill, and what it means for each and every American?  So you do not have to count, it creates 118 new boards, commissions, offices and bureaus.  Supposedly, ALL of these new entities will be selflessly looking out for your “betterment.”  Somehow, ObamaCare needs all of these levels of review and personnel to provide better and more available healthcare to more Americans, and plans to work this miracle do this at a fraction of current costs.  (Oh, and they will eliminate Medicaid fraud in the meantime.)  This has little connection with reality.

There is another option.  A different reform package has been purposed by The GOP Leadership, and every member of the minority has signed on.  In fact, before this debate is over maybe a few “Blue Dog Democrats” (now with broken arms) will sign on as well. This reform package:

ObamaCare Vs. The Hippocratic Oath

by Dr. David Janda

Twenty-nine years ago I stood with my 150 classmates in Thorn Hall, at Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, as Dean James Eckenhoff asked us to raise our right hands and repeat after him:

I will apply measures for the benefit of the sick according to my ability and judgment; I will keep them from harm and injustice.

I will neither give a deadly drug to anybody if asked for it, nor will I make a suggestion to this effect.  In purity and holiness I will guard my life and my art.

I will not use the knife, not even on sufferers from stone, but will withdraw in favor of such men as are engaged in this work.

Whatever houses I may visit, I will come for the benefit of the sick, remaining free of all intentional injustice.

blood-preasure

Those words, from The Hippocratic Oath written in 400 B.C., changed my life and the lives of the thousands of patients my classmates and I have touched over the past twenty-nine years.

ObamaCare Debate: Freedom vs. Oppression

by Dr. David Janda

On September 22, 1862, President Abraham Lincoln issued The Emancipation Proclamation:

“That on the 1st day of January, in the year of our Lord 1863, all persons held as slaves within any state or designated part of a state, the people whereof shall then be in rebellion against the United States, shall be then, thenceforward, and forever free; and the executive government of the United States, including the military and naval authority thereof, will recognize and maintain the freedom of such persons and will do no act or acts to repress such persons, or any of them, in any efforts they may make for their actual freedom. . . And upon this act, sincerely believed to be an act of justice, warranted by the Constitution upon military necessity, I invoke the considerate judgment of mankind and the gracious favor of Almighty God.”

With these words President Lincoln ended slavery – a  flagrant violation of the institutions of the United States of America, “a government of, by and for all the people.”

right_conscience_rule

The institution of slavery denied essential freedoms to fellow Americans. Today, in 2009, another freedom is being denied to every man, woman and child — freedom of health care. Some in the HMO industry, many in the insurance industry, and many federal “Big Government” bureaucrats are denying Americans their freedom of health care.  The Obama Health Care Plan is the instruction manual and play book for this mandate.

 These “Masters” of  Health Care are trying to deny individuals the freedom to choose what doctor you can see, what medicine you can take, what hospital you can go to, and how you spend your health care dollars.  They even take it a step further in the Obama Health Care Plan, determining – IF – yes, IF you can be treated.  These “Masters” of Health Care are driving us to unnecessary pain, suffering, and, in some cases, death.

 We can all agree that the US health care system needs drastic reform, but not at the cost of destroying the entire system.  We face a defining crossroads, as we as a nation decide the face of this reform. If we really want to improve the system, reform must be based upon the bedrock of providing each person, family and business fundamental healthcare freedom.

Obama’s Two-Part Health Care Plan is Hazardous to Your Health

by Dr. David Janda

The health care plan advocated by President Obama, Speaker Pelosi, Senator Reid and The Democratic Majority is hazardous to the health of every American. What the President would like to do with your health care is currently being widely debated, but what is lesser known is a panel has already been created in Part I of his two-part health care plan  through buried language in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, also known as the Stimulus Bill, which became law last February.

ration_book_4e

The name given to this panel in the President’s Stimulus Bill is The Federal Coordinating Council for Comparative Effectiveness Research, and is an already funded $1.1 billion enterprise run by federal bureaucrats—not practicing doctors on the front line or patients.  All 15 members of The Council have already been appointed by President Obama.  The two part Plan consists of 53 boards and councils, whose underlying method of cutting costs is based on rationing and denying care, not preventing health care need, much like the British Health Care System.

Part II of the Obama health care plan, dubbed “America’s Affordable Health Choices Act,” empowers this Council to create another level of bureaucracy, The Center for Comparative Effectiveness Research, which as in The British System, will determine whether to approve or reject treatment for patients based upon the cost of treatment and the number of years the patient will likely benefit from the treatment.  This will have the biggest impact on seniors, but rightly has caused concern for Americans of all ages.

Part I of the President’s plan dictates that doctors and hospitals will be overseen and reviewed by The National Coordinator of Health Information Technology.  This “Coordinator”, who has already been appointed by President Obama, will be responsible for monitoring treatments to ensure doctors and hospitals strictly follow what the government deems appropriate and cost effective, and to “guide medical decisions at the time and place of care.”
