Barak Obama the Enigma, Part I: Strange Bedfellows

by Bill Whittle

President Obama’s birth certificate is both the Hot Button and the Third Rail of politics, and rightfully so. Put aside for the moment your opinion on the specific issue, and look to the broader one: Barack Obama has not only not made available, but has actually legally sealed (at great expense) the document that could resolve this issue, plus all of his academic records, his medical records, and his travel records. People can be forgiven for suspecting that this much smoke is generated by some kind of fire.

There is a great deal of verified, factual information on the man I am calling The Enigma — information published in major newspapers like the New York Times, the Chicago Tribune, the Presidents own writings, and so on — that does not depend on speculation or theory. The birth certificate issue goes to the President’s legitimacy. I decided to string all of this reliably reported information — none of which is in doubt and all of which is sourced on-screen — to attack not his legitimacy, but his character — which is to say, his fitness.

The Beginning of the End of Public Sector Unions

by Bill Whittle

Most of us instinctively know that something very important — historic, even — going on in Wisconsin. Well, there is something historic going on in Wisconsin. It is the first salvo in a battle that is going to preoccupy the rest of our lives, for we live in a very unique time in human history — the kind of cusp that has only happened twice before in all of human history.

The pro-Union forces may or may not win the Battle of Wisconsin — but as to the larger war, they are irretrievably doomed. This is not just politics. It is something much, much bigger.

The Free Frontier

by Bill Whittle

All of my life I wanted to be an astronaut. I starting working in the Miami Planetarium at age 13; studied aeronautics and engineering and propulsion systems, and was stopped only by a 20/25 left eye during an exam for the US Air Force Academy. But space exploration has always been my primary passion.

Here is a video called THE FREE FRONTIER. You’re seeing it at Big Government because you will not find a cleaner contrast between what the government spends and wastes and ends up with, versus the almost mind-boggling results the private sector can achieve at a fraction — in some cases 4-5% — of the cost that you and I pay every day in the form of taxes.

My hope is that this video will give you hope.

The Intersection of Christmas and America

by Bill Whittle

Well, my friends, it’s Christmas in America once again. And one way to keep our gratitude levels high (and stress levels low) is to reflect on how Christianity and Freedom go together, both in the words and deeds of the Founders, and even in our secular society today. Many of us are not religious at all these days, but we all benefit from the influence of Christianity on the men that designed and built this amazing Nation of Desire.

Plus, the Sears catalog! And we use the word “mountebank” post-ironically!

What We Believe, Part VI: Immigration

by Bill Whittle

One of the biggest slanders leveled against the Tea Party Movement is that they are “anti-immigrant.” That’s nonsense, and everyone knows it. We Conservatives are not “anti-immigration” — we are anti-ILLEGAL immigration, and for a large number of very good reasons; not the least of which is that it makes fools out of the thousands and millions of honest, hard-working and patient LEGAL immigrants who are playing by the rules and doing the right thing by their new home.

There’s a pretty handy response to the whole “we didn’t cross the border; the border crossed us” nonsense you hear from racist groups like La Raza (The Race!) Once you get the issue away from being for or against immigration, versus being for or against illegal immigration, well… we can win all across the board on that ground.

What We Believe, Part 5: Gun Rights

by Bill Whittle

The Left will have you believe that people who own guns are a bunch of fun-loving, action-hero-wannabes, who are excited by shiny things and loud noises and like to run around blowing things up by remote control. And I say, that’s not a bug — that’s a feature!

But there is much, much more to it than that.

What We Believe, Part 3: Wealth Creation Is a Miracle

by Bill Whittle

You know, it hit me not too long ago that pretty much all of the policies of the Left are based upon the idea that wealth is limited. If it is limited, then the rich are indeed thieves, and redistributive taxation and all the rest are genuine antidotes to correct this hoarding. But if they are wrong, all of their policies fall apart.

Well, wealth is ABSOLUTELY NOT limited. We conservatives know that it can be created out of thin air. If you have ten minutes we can take a look at how this is done…

What We Believe, Part 2: The Problem with Elitism

by Bill Whittle

Sometimes, when I think about the Left and what they hope to accomplish with their Big Government, it all boils down to motive for me: what’s the point of being able to tell people what to do if you don’t get to TELL THEM WHAT TO DO.

Distrust of Elitism in modern American politics is not just jealousy and it’s certainly not unfounded. There are Moral, Motive and Practicality objections to it, and if you can spare nine minutes of your otherwise productive time, maybe we can walk through them…

What We Believe, Part I: Small Government and Free Enterprise

by Bill Whittle

About a month ago I had the chance to have lunch in Washington with my Trifecta friends, Steve Green and Scott Ott at BlogCon sponsored by Freedom Works. Scott told the story of his flight to DC, during which the person sitting next to him — a lifelong Democrat — struck up a conversation with Scott about conservatism. By the time the man got off the plane, he turned to Scott and said, “That makes a ton of sense.” Then he smiled and said, “My God, maybe I’m a Republican!”

That story really stayed with me. So here is the first of a new series of FIREWALL videos, called “What We Believe.” In them, I’ll do my very best to explain in as rational and non-antagonistic a method as possible, just what the fundamentals of modern Conservatism — especially Tea Party Conservatism — are all about.

Part one covers the two big items: small government, and free enterprise. In the future we’ll look at elitism, wealth creation, gun ownership, immigration, and more.

I know I don’t speak for everyone on these issues — no one speaks for everyone, not even those in the same camp — but I do hope to capture the core beliefs in a way that people who share these views can use to pass on to those people in their lives who don’t.
