Rep. Bobby Schilling

Rep. Bobby Schilling

Robert "Bobby" Schilling was born and raised in Rock Island, Illinois. He has been married to Christie for 24 years and together they have ten children: Terry, Aaron, Levi, Joe, Isabel, Rachel, Olivia, Sam, Sophia and Anthony.

Bobby graduated from Alleman High School and attended Blackhawk College. Afterwards Bobby worked at Container Corporation of America. During his term there, 1983-1987, he served as a union steward in the local 191 United Paperworkers International Union. From 1987 until 1995, he went to work in the insurance and financial services industry for Prudential Insurance Company. While at Prudential, Bobby served as Treasurer for the United Food and Commercial Workers Union. Bobby also finished as number 315 out of over 13,000 agents during his last full year with the company.

Thirteen years ago, Bobby and Christie decided to go into business for themselves as Italian restaurant owners/operators. Saint Giuseppe's Heavenly Pizza in Moline has proven to be a great success. Shortly after opening, Bobby and Christie decided to close their restaurant on Sundays, in order to give more time off for their employees and spend more time with the family. People warned them that this would doom their business to failure. With faith and persistence, the business has not only sustained itself, but has grown.

To his credit Bobby is not just a "Pizza Guy." He has made smart investments and has also had success in real estate. Financial stability is something that Bobby and Christie cherish. All the ups and downs of running their own business and raising a large family have taught Bobby and Christie the importance of being fiscally responsible. They have learned through the years that spending the way out of a problem usually just made the hole deeper and the problem worse. Bobby believes that the government is spending way too much of our money and that it needs to slow down greatly.

Bobby understands that in order to achieve economic prosperity in the 17th District, we need to focus on bringing jobs back home. Too much time is focused on shelling out tax- payer dollars on wasteful government projects and not enough time is focused on creating permanent jobs. Illinois tax-payers want a "leg-up" not a "hand-out." Everyone has an opportunity at greatness and no one should tell them otherwise.

Bobby understands that the battle for the 17th Congressional District will be a challenge. Bobby has always loved challenges and has always held that with hard work, determination, persistence and faith, all things are possible. Bobby loves it when someone tells him that a goal is not attainable and that it cannot be done. Time and time again, Bobby has proven them wrong.

President Obama, I’ll Take You Up on Your Offer to Meet About Health Care Reform

by Rep. Bobby Schilling

During his State of the Union address, the President said, “If you have ideas on how to improve this law by making care better or more affordable, I am eager to work with you.”

Mr. President, I accept your invitation. As a small business owner, I know the devastating impact the current law will have on our economy. We all agree that the system is broken and health care reform is necessary. I would love to speak with you about the concerns I have with the law and work together to create health care solutions that serve all Americans. I’m eager to begin the dialogue and work with you to give consumers more choice in their health care decisions.

Help Me Flip this District from Phil ‘I Don’t Worry about the Constitution’ Hare

by Rep. Bobby Schilling

There are only 13 days left until Election Day and I need your help to flip this district.

The latest poll shows us leading Congressman Hare 44% – 41% and according to Politico, this is the 5th hottest race in the country.

The Hill just published a story that said that we are beating Hare by 7 points.

Our message of creating jobs, not more government, is resonating with Americans.  We have momentum and will work around the clock to ensure victory.

However, groups like the Democratic Congressional Committee and the SEIU are spending more than $1 million to promote false advertisements against me and this race will come down to the final day and dollar.

We need real change.  Our economy is hemorrhaging jobs, spending is out of control and small businesses around the country lack the certainty needed to expand.  Sending out-of-touch, career politicians back to Washington will not fix these problems.

Worried About the Constitution? Join the Fight to Defend it!

by Rep. Bobby Schilling

“I do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States…”

Rep. Phil Hare, January 3, 2007, Washington D.C.

“I don’t worry about the Constitution…”

Rep. Phil Hare, April 1, 2010, Quincy IL

Three years after my opponent Rep. Phil Hare took his first oath to defend and uphold the Constitution, he voted in lockstep with Nancy Pelosi and other left coast liberals to take away individual freedom from every citizen in the United States.

When he was recently asked at a town hall meeting in Quincy, Ill. why he so stridently supported the Pelosi-Reid Obamacare bill, even though it unconstitutionally forces every U.S. Citizen to buy government approved health insurance or face a state imposed penalty, he stated that he didn’t worry about the constitution.

His decision to knowingly disregard his oath to defend the constitution so that he could support the now infamous Obamacare bill and the Chicago-style, strong-arm tactics that made it’s passage possible reveals a troubling and radical belief that our rights as Americans are not God given but are based on his power as our congressman.

This elitist, out of touch mentality that representative Hare has espoused and which has taken hold in our nation’s capital, I believe, must be forcefully rejected.  I am running to replace Representative Hare in Congress in order to get rid of Obamacare, the elitist ideology that it represents and to restore the trust of the people of western Illinois

My name is Bobby Schilling. I am the father of 10 beautiful children, a small business owner and I care about the constitution.

Don’t ‘Slaughter’ the Healthcare Bill—Kill it!

by Rep. Bobby Schilling

All over the country, voters have been flooding their representatives with calls, letters and emails urging them to kill the current healthcare bill. Instead of killing the healthcare bill, Congress is now talking about the “Slaughter solution.”

HECHY22_PH1

Don’t be confused. The “Slaughter solution” has nothing to do with killing the bill. It is actually named after Democratic congresswoman Louise Slaughter, chair of the House Rules Committee. It is a backdoor, parliamentary procedure in which the House can pass the healthcare bill without even voting on it. Certain members of Congress think that the American people are so stupid that this backdoor trick will actually work in fooling them.

It won’t work.

In 1994, the Democrat controlled Congress tried to pass the same type of healthcare overhaul, except this time they called it “Hillarycare.” While Hillarycare didn’t pass, it led to the biggest overturn in power since President Truman. Voters were outraged that Congress even tried such a power grab. I can’t imagine they will react any differently if Congress actually goes through with this overhaul—let alone pass it through a cowardly backhanded technique.

GITMO North Is the Worst Option on the Table

by Rep. Bobby Schilling

On Monday, Politico reported that South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham was in negotiations with White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel on a plan to close the military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba and transfer the terrorist detainees to a prison in Thomson, Illinois. With all due respect to the Senator, there are some particular details about Illinois facility he should know.

58923554

On January 6, 2010, three prisoners escaped from the Tri-County Detention Center in Ullin, IL. Local schools were immediately closed and communities were put on alert, as the federal prisoners were considered “armed and dangerous.” It seems these three prisoners are still free and on the run.

Yet, just two months prior, Illinois liberals in Congress were pushing to move Guantanamo Bay detainees to a prison in Thomson, Illinois. With three inmates escaping from a federal prison in the same state, one would think that it would make the Thomson prison deal radioactive.

If this issue isn’t radioactive now, it should be.

Press reports about the Thomson facility note repeatedly that it is in “rural” Illinois. What they don’t mention is the Thomson prison is just 25 miles away from a nuclear power plant. Worse, the prison is only 50 miles away from one of the largest military arsenals in the United States.

I could think of a few better places to put Al-Qaeda terrorists.
