Brian Miller

Brian Miller is a Major and senior pilot in the United States Air Force Reserve, 45th Fighter Squadron at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base. In June 2009, he transitioned from active duty to the USAF Reserve to focus on representing the people of Arizona's 8th Congressional District.

As a combat veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom, he has provided Close Air Support and rescue escort to Joint American Forces and Coalition troops on the ground in Afghanistan. As an A-10 Instructor Pilot and Flight Commander, Brian has been and continues to be responsible for the lives, skills, and success of hundreds of combat pilots. He has been a proud member of six Fighter Squadrons in his career.
He currently leads and instructs new A-10 pilots.

Brian has lived, worked, studied, and trained in more than two-dozen countries around the world. His extensive international experience has provided him a global view and is fundamental to the perspective Brian will take to the U.S. Congress.

Hard work and traditional values underscore Brian’s upbringing. His parents began their own small business in 1982, provided for their family of four, and still own it today. His parents instilled in him and his brother the guiding principles of integrity, honesty, and perseverance. These core values are reflected in his everyday life and will direct his work in Washington.

In 1998, Brian earned a Bachelor's of Science degree in Political Science from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff where he studied on a USAF academic scholarship. While at NAU, he met Alyson and they married in 2001. Both Brian and Alyson were commissioned as officers in the United States Air Force in 1998. They have chosen to raise their two young sons, Noah and Lincoln, in Tucson.

Rep. Giffords: Never Mind About U.S. Deaths, Do Our Military Bases Have Windmills?

by Brian Miller

Last week, Congresswoman Giffords met with General Patraeus on Capitol Hill. This meeting took place after we have lost over thirty American soldiers in Afghanistan this month. The burning question on Ms. Giffords’ mind was: what are we doing to “green” our bases?

This is a disgrace. Ms. Giffords sits on the House Armed Services Committee and yet seems to be unaware of the ever-changing and deteriorating situation in our longest war ever – Afghanistan. Instead, she used that meeting for political grand-standing to please the Obama Administration.

Where the Contract with American Failed, the Freshmen 5o Will Succeed

by Brian Miller

One thing our founding fathers could not foresee… was a nation governed by professional politicians who have a vested interest in getting reelected.  They probably envisioned a fellow serving a couple of hitches and then looking forward to getting back to the farm.” — Ronald Reagan

The energy of 1994 led to the Contract with America, and the huge Republican victory of that year.  It was a victory for Republicans, but was it a victory for America?

The Contract with America had an inherent flaw.  It was a political party bargaining with Americans:  give us power and this is what we will do for you.  The Freshmen 50 is different:  it is Americans telling the federal government what it will do.

We are citizen-candidates united on a platform of six simple and realistic reforms for our government:

  • Apply the Law Equally: All laws that apply to all citizens also apply to Congress
  • Term Limits: Limit terms in Congress to no more than 12 years in the House and Senate, respectively
  • Enforce Congressional Ethics: Yearly tax and expense audits, former Congressmen and their staff cannot be lobbyists, allow the ethics committee to do their job
  • Read the Bill: Prior to final vote, the entire bill must be read out loud on the floor of the House; if a representative is not present for the entire reading, he cannot vote
  • Tax Reform: Repeal our current tax code in favor of one that taxes only once, at one rate, and require a 2/3-majority vote for any new tax
  • Balance the Budget: Amend the Constitution to require a balanced budget

We are unique.
