We Can’t Even Trim $1.4 Million From Our Budget
by Anthony RandazzoRiding the wave of the GOP’s successful push to have Congress defund Acorn, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) tried to push through another prudential budget matter: killing the John Murtha-Johnstown Cambria County Airport. His effort was not as successful.
On Thursday afternoon, the GOP brought a measure to the Senate floor to end federal subsidies for the airport Rep. John Murtha (D-PA) had built in Johnstown, PA, right in his home district. Over the past few years, the airport has received roughly $150 million in funds from the defense budget, and it got $800,000 in stimulus money.

But it just so happens the airport only sees about 6,700 passengers… a year. Luckily, Murtha is the chairman of that wonderful little defense committee, dutifully guiding money towards the airport build largely so he could get from Dulles back to his home easier.
Tyler Grimm wrote in The Wall Street Journal earlier this month:
The usually barren airport—there were several times during the day I paced the building for 15 minutes and did not see another human being—has a lot of unused advertising space. But you can’t miss the large picture of John Murtha among a collage of Lockheed Martin workers at the airport’s center. It’s a monument to earmarks: “Partnerships Make a World of Difference,” the ad reads.
The Senate voted mostly down party lines to keep the $1.4 million in annual spending on the airport in the budget. Yes, we spend that much money to operate to fund an airport that is losing money and seeing maybe 20 people pass through a day.
Now, it’s true that the deficit is a behemoth in the trillions, but every little $1.4 million helps. Keeping this obvious, greasy piece of pork is a travesty worthy of a loud grunt of frustration and a snifter of brandy. As Sen. DeMint exclaimed, “If we can’t stop it, we can’t stop anything.”
A new era of fiscal responsibility indeed.

Murtha is exactly the type of criminal we need to remove from office. He could do it so he did do it. However those who allowed this waste of our money should also be held accountable too.
Murtha is a crook, lowlife scumbag. I hate reducing myself to these levels using those types of words but on occasion nice words just do not fit.
He didn't get all that money without the knowledge and help of others.
This is becoming the new Amtrax
We need to shut this down NOW!
Corruption, corruption everyehere. It is way past time to take our country back. Pray that we are not too late.
Typical Washington. They expect us to sacrifice, yet they still need all their perks.
You need to see the airport in person to truly appreciate the full waste. I've seen little private air fields with more air traffic than the Johnstown-Cambria County Airport.
Amtrack? No, it is more like Anthrax……….
When is Murtha up for re-election?
Murtha, Arlen Spinchter, Fast Eddie Rendel; everyone talks of corruption in terms of the Chicago gandland thuggery of politics. If Chicago is first, Pennsylvania is assuredly a close second. Face it, all career politicians are corrupted by power. Their sheer arrogance, their hubris, their super-egos simply make them go insane and believe their own press. Murtha is a thug, ask anyone from Pennsylvania and they will tell you…………
only in americ… look on the bright side since the airport is so dead (20 people a day pass thru it on avg) than maybe one day well get lucky and the airr traffic controller will be asleep or half asleep and maybe murthas's plane will crash and due the world a favor or atleast the struggle american taxpayers
But yet the POTUS cuts defensive missiles in Poland & Czech – because the "new intellegence" shows we don't need them – PLEASE – he also said he scrapped it because it would be more efficient and cost less to use short range missiles – which won't even do what we need. Poland's pissed, Czech Republic's pissed, and I'm pissed.
Dern.
Our government is a deep cesspool of pig manure. I figured it was bad, but you're really opening my eyes. Thank you.
just saw a video on you tube about 7 cops beat and the cited man in his on driveway because earlier he was hanging obama joker posters up on streel light poles in a neighborhood in texas where a news interviewed a lady saying she was probably the only obama supporter in the neighborhood!! why didn't the aclu take action on this? ill' tell you why because it isnt the aclu any more its the liberal foreiegner and and illegal aliens clu now!
With friends like congress, who needs enemies?
It really is an amazingly sad situation in DC. But maybe now that we are hearing stories like this unfiltered by the Charlie Gibsons of the world, we can more effectively make positive change happen.

Where is the New Era of Fiscal Responsibility? DeMint may need to try this again after the 2010 elections. He might have better luck.
We have decided to start a petition with the intent of obtaining an attorney to start a Class Action lawsuit against the US Government. They have repeatedly ignored our demands, violated our rights, and have been foolish with far to much of our money. If you would like to get involved in a potential Class Action lawsuit against the US Government please sign our petition.
The list is growing please be one of the first to sign it.

Tell the Govt to stop the spending!!! http://www.usdebtclock.org/
But Murtha must have his own airport!! He's such an important member of the government! What ever would we do without him!! Rolls eyes
The issue isn't the corruption or corruptability of specific individuals. Murtha may indeed be a crook and a slimeball, but tossing him out won't solve the long-term problem, which is too much power at the Federal level.
The only hope we have of changing things is to rein in Congressional power, either through term limits that reduce the incentives for using tax dollars to get re-elected, or by amending the Constitution to limit the current abuses of the "commerce clause".
Voting the bums out sounds great, but is easier said than done, given the incumbent protection measures Congress has in place, from pork barrel spending to gerrymandering, and even if successful provides no guarantee that the new boss will be any better than the old boss, regardless of party.
Murtha will continue to get re-elected. He could be pictured signing checks for the ACORN sting camera crew and he would still get re-elected. Sort of like Traficant in Ohio. Friends of mine from the Youngstown area actually had a poll on several social networking sites for visitors to guess how long it would take for his name to be written in.
Could we leave the ugly rhetoric to the libs, please? Murtha may be a slimeball, but I wouldn't wish death in a plane crash on my worst enemy, much less someone who's simply a political opponent.

Disgusting. It makes my blood boil every time I hear this guy's name. Term limits are our only hope.
Can't argue with your logic. Nothing in our government is as easy as it should be. However there must be starting points. A start is to get rid of him when we can. There is much more to do after that. Our govenment has become an evil tree bent it seems on our destruction from within. The trees roots run every where. Unfortunately for the moment the roots must be severed when found where found. Maybe then we can dig the tree up and deposit in the trash.
Assuming the $1.5M stays in the budget and taking into account the $150M+ that the little airport has already been given … over the next 30 years that works out to just over $950 for each of the annual 6,700 passengers. I'm guessing those 6,700 people wouldn't choose to pay an extra $950 per flight, so why should taxpayers!!
Don't get me wrong…I think we should flush every piece of crap currently in office that we can. I just hope that we don't think that this alone will solve the problem.
It's like treating a disease…you may need to treat the worst symptoms just to keep the patient alive long enough to address the underlying disease. But if you treat *only* the symptoms, the patient will not survive long-term.
100% agreement on this front. We at present must find a means of staying alive.
This is toooooooo funny. Does anyone remember the stink the Democrats threw over the Airport to no where in Alaska?? They just about had Sarah Palin locked up and thrown away over it. This was for a airport in Alaska that really was needed. Even if the Dems didn't think so alot more than 20 per day use it . So funny
Acorn is not very important in the scheme of things. What is important is that the FDA and the AMA HAVE BEEN CONSPIRING FOR GENERATIONS. Most health problems can be kept under control for about 500 dollars a year. The waster shortage in california can be corrected very easilly also. These are the big stories. How come a truck driver like myself can see these cover ups and no politician can. I have e-mailed almost all of the names in the news without a single response. The needless death of P. Swayze is the latest casualty of these problem. For about 500 dollars he would still be alive. Alll of the above is easilly provable. Bill
Senator De Mint is doing his job; good for him. I hope he doesn't have any pet projects, unless they actually promote jobs and increase revenues.

When I was in Odessa, Ukraine, one of the locals showed me a bridge they call the Mother-in-Law Bridge. It was built by a communist official at public expense to make it easier for his wife to visit her mother. At the time, I saw it as an amusing sign of corruption and evidence of the failure of communism. What has happened to America since then!
2011
I think Murtha and Ted Stevens (AK)use to compete for how much money they could waste. Murtha is all alone now, although he probably has found another partner in crime.
Hope your not drinking coffee right now as you read the title of this bill in 2007

I couldn't agree more with Andrew. Wishing death upon anyone shows a lack of decency and respect for life.
We need to start at home. Get Constitutional Conservatives elected in each state. Then we can hold a Constitutional convention to address the areas of the Constitution that Congress is bastardizing. That, along with term limits, and people interested in Governing under the limitations of the Constitution and changing that "every Congress is sovereign" so that our lawmakers can go back and undue some of the travesties past Congresses have hoisted upon us.
Then the Supreme Court. Those commies have to go, and the wording in the Constitution beefed up so there is no more of this "it's a living document" crap, and commie interpretations.
WE ARE RIGHT! THEY ARE WRONG! END OF STORY! (borrowed from Andrew Wilkow, Sirius Satellite radio channel 144, 11:00 to 1:00 CDT)

Well…thar ya go.
Agreed. I have been screaming for constitutional limits forever! Never thought about a Constitutional Convention though – that may be a great idea – can fix some of the perversions the Supreme Court has foisted upon us too. They have taken to legislating from the bench by interpreting laws in a way that changes the original intent of the law.
Also, in the Constitution: Article I Section VII –
Methods of Making Laws:
1. Money Bills Must Originate In the House.
All bills for raising revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives; but the Senate
may propose or concur with amendments as on other bills
.What happened to this? We have these liberal think-tanks like the Apollo Alliance or others, writing our bills like the stimulus package. I contend that the stimulus package was not written by congress and therefore is unconstitutional.
One down 300 million to go! Every journey begins but with one step.
Start local, there are too many States run by leftists. I know mine is.
20 people a DAY! Thats massive. Its too big to fail. //not really
I agree with the other two. Besides, why would you also wish death on the flight crew, and the destruction of a perfectly good airplane?
Let's get James O'Keefe to set up a time lapse camera at Murtha's airport to record a week's or a month's activity.
Murtha is a pig, in more ways than one. He is also a liar and a low life. How does he look at himself in the mirror?
He was no Marine. He was and is just a blivet. If you know what I mean.
bush had a chance to fix some of this crap..he had the house and senate but instead he worked on stem cell and DOMA. I only hope if the pubs get control again they fix the real problems in government and leave their bibles at home. NEWT FOR POTUS..
What is Murtha's phone # in DC, we need to let him know how we feel as well……….such a leach, like the others he must go……..
Shouldn't be a surprise its just like stealing and Murtha has had lot of practice. You go Senator Jim Demint this kind of thing has to stop.Obama promised no more lobbyist,no more pork, and complete transparency. And what do we get no jobs, higher taxes, and the story that they where just campaign promises. Its time to vist Washington.
