Why Georgia’s 12th CD Should be on Everyone’s Mind
by Anita MonCriefWhen Howard Dean implemented his “50 State Strategy” most, including some in his own party, considered his plan to be unworkable and more importantly “unwinnable”. After the resounding sweep of the Democrats in 2006 and Obama in 2008, the RNC has only feebly attempted to replicate this strategy.

From Wikipedia:
“As chairman of the party, Dean created and employed the ‘50 State Strategy’ that attempted to make Democrats competitive in normally conservative states often dismissed in the past as ’solid red.’ The success of the strategy became apparent after the 2006 midterm elections, where Democrats took back the House and picked up seats in the Senate from normally Republican states such as Missouri and Montana. In the 2008 election, Barack Obama used ‘The 50 state strategy’ as the backbone of his candidacy.”
As the November 2010 mid-term elections rapidly approaches it is now even more important to focus on every race, every state, and every primary. Blogger Melissa Clouthier describes the problem in the Republican party:
“The Republicans conceding in between elections as well as races, themselves, has been a tremendous source of irritation. It is one thing to microtarget and write off a district because it’s ‘unwinnable’. The problem is that too many areas were written off that could, in this election, be won. And now, with no foundation there, it makes the task of winning more difficult. Texas isn’t the only place this has happened. In fact, this is a problem nationwide for Republicans. With a lack of organization and get out the vote effort and the lack of relationship building, many potentially winnable races will be lost simply because there is no there, there. It’s been conceded.”
Clouthier’s article includes a review of a primary race in a solidly red state of Georgia. In Georgia’s 12th Congressional district candidate Ray McKinney is running a tight primary race against former fire chief Carl Smith, Jr. McKinney, a former supporter of Smith, has run a solid campaign while Smith has been embroiled in a number of ethical situations reminiscent of Democrat candidates. This is where the problem lies, as the Tea Party activists have become more politically savvy, every candidate must be held to a higher standard. To ensure a government that is free of corruption, the people must be willing to expose those within their own party whose actions are not aligned with our values.
According to the Savannah Business Journal:
“On June 9, Thunderbolt Town Council terminated Smith’s $52,000 a year position as Thunderbolt’s Fire Chief. The reasons behind the termination have publicly varied – officially it’s financial reasons, unofficially Smith took too much time off to campaign, and to Smith it’s all politically motivated…”
According to local reports, Smith was advised by former congressional candidate Wayne Mosley, members of the 12th District executive board, and Ray McKinney, that to avoid appearance of conflict of interest, he should resign as Fire Chief to run for Congress. Obviously Smith declined that advice and now there are allegations by concerned citizens in the district that not only was Smith an absentee fire chief but that he may have violated the Hatch Act.
Part of the 50 page watchdog report states:
” The Hatch Act of 1939 was introduced to prevent corruption in government and elections. Its main provision prevents federal employees from engaging in partisan political activity. However, it also applies to employees of state and local governments…..
Currently in Georgia’s 12th congressional district, a public official who has applied for and received federal funds in his capacity as chief of the Thunderbolt Fire Department is in violation of the Hatch Act.”
The report alleges that Smith, in his role as Fire Chief, used his office, uniform, and vehicle to campaign for public office in violation of the Hatch Act. Evidence included screen shots of Smith’s website which show him in various official uniforms on his campaign website and in fund raising letters like the ones below.
The report also includes information on the Federal funds that Smith had either applied or lobbied for in his capacity as Thunderbolt Fire Chief.
As the report points out, politicians in others states have been found in violation of the Hatch act for amounts less than shown above and in one instance, the state of Utah must either forfeit federal funds or force a state senator to resign.
Ray McKinney’s camp is taking this primary seriously and according to the Savannah Business Journal, has raised $100,000 already. McKinney, who I met at the Southern Republican Leadership Conference in April, and again in DC over dinner, has been endorsed by local Tea Party groups and One Nation PAC, has been praised by the NRA and has a plan to clean up the Gulf oil spill.
Character counts in selecting elected officials and Republicans must be willing to recognize the early signs of susceptibility to corruption within our ranks. When representatives go across the aisle on votes like Cap and Trade or Wall Street reform, voters are left wondering what happened. That’s why every race counts. ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, operated under the idea that “all politics is local.” As seen in other districts like California’s 37th Congressional district where Star Parker is running to unseat Representative Laura Richardson, a corrupt local politician can became a national problem with the outcome of one election.
If Republicans introduce their own problem candidate into the November 2010 election, they run the risk of handing that district over to a Democrat who will capitalize on Smith’s current troubles.
Smith’s ethical issues only highlight McKinney as the viable candidate and a costly run-off will distract from the main goal for putting the Democrat candidate on the defensive. If Republicans unite in GA-12, McKinney is the best choice for a sustainable conservative majority. To donate or find out more information about McKinney, go here. Every race, every state.

All corrupt politicians must go. That means a few republicans and just about every democrat.
Say I have an idea, lets all get out there and round up conservatives, real conservatives and put them in office. progressive republicans have been the bane of the Republican party since the early 20th century. It's time conservatives took the republican party back and presented a unified conservative front, instead of the fragmented we see today.
" In fact, this is a problem nationwide for Republicans. With a lack of organization and get out the vote effort and the lack of relationship building, many potentially winnable races will be lost simply because there is no there, there. It’s been conceded.”
Very well put Ms. MonCrief. The Repubs have been sitting on their collective behinds like turtles laying eggs hoping something will hatch before a predator eats them.
Time for a shakedown. Time to get all these lazy Republicans off their cozy nests and FORCE them to do the job they are supposed to do or get the hell out of the way. Olympia Snow, Brown etc etc….if you think we will stand for your deception and RINO tactics, we will not. I will write in my own candidate even if it's a firefighter, Joe the Plumber or a patriot garbage man.
We need to save this country and all good men better come forward or else get kicked out in shame. This whole scene disgusts me. Don't people see whats happening?
You forgot Susan Collins, another Northeast RINO.
Howard Dean….?
Don't miss the speech he gave to the Party of European Socialists (PES): http://vimeo.com/8050332
If you can watch this speech and not believe that the Democratic Party has been hi-jacked by Marxist, Socialist, Communists….I suggest you move to Cuba or China.
Here's a huge point. Voter Fraud! Millions of Votes in the last election were fraudulant. They were deceased people, and people who moved, or are in jail etc. but they are still on the Voter Registration Roles! Why?
Well they had someone on Fox a few weeks ago; sorry I can't remember who she was. She was an elected official who stated that in order for the Voter Roles to be PURGED, in every City in Every State, someone has to "order' it be done! Shocked? I am. It's become my main focus for obvious reasons.
She said that none of the fraudulant voters have been purged since obama was elected, and whatever voter registrations ACORN was doing on the Community organization level, still exists and has not been checked for inaccuracies. Nor have their rolls been purged.
So while it is true that the Tea Party people and all Americans need to get out the vote, we may lose anyway if Millions of Fraudulant Votes automatically get tallied right back in!
The fix? 1- Automatic purging now, and after every election. 2- I.D. REQUIRED FOR ALL VOTERS!
Please, can anyone in the GOP get a Task Force out there to do this, or all of our work, strategies, meetings and heartfelt patriotism will be defeated by those who are more savvy with manipulating Votes!
Did you notice the list of tags? Right under the tag Socialist, is the tag Democrat. The Last two tags.
That tag list says it all…….what a scary bunch.
Georgia On My Mind great song. Oh THAT Georgia on my mind as in politics. Ooops! All I can say is that we need real true Conservatives in DC. Not RINOs.
The Progressive MEMBERS in Congress ……Follow the money …..

"In fact, this is a problem nationwide for Republicans."
The problem is a total lack of credible leadership within the RNC. Michael Steele is not a leader, he is a politician. The RNC must decide that they need the most capable person to lead the party and communicate not only what the progressives are doing wrong, but what must be done to put us back on the right track. I don't care what color, gender or what flavor the leader is as long as they are perceived as a leader- and a winner. I can, however, offer a few talking points that make sense to 60 to 70% of Americans:
1. It is all about jobs. Government cannot create jobs, but can create a more favorable environment that will lead to more jobs. Listen to the Tea Party- we know what is right.
2. Smaller government- get rid of non-essential federal departments. BE VERY BOLD and stick to it. Some will squeal, but so what? That means cutting spending and using a large ax.
3. Cut business taxes immediately by 50% and watch jobs start appearing instantly.
4. Repeal Obamacare, the recently passed Frank-Dodd mess and get rid of Fannie and Freddie. Declare all bailouts unconstitutional and proclaim no business or government entity is too big to fail. Abolish the Federal Reserve.
5. Force Congress to make an up or down vote on war funding- either vote to do what it takes to win or get the heck out. Make it a law and let the president show his hand by either agreeing or vetoing and take appropriate action to defeat the veto.
6. Prosecute any appointed or elected official for circumventing our Constitution. No exceptions. That includes enforcing our immigration laws.
How is that for a start?
4th Congressional district.
Finally we have someone good to go against fatboy Barney Frank.
Sean Bielat
Where is his help…..?
We should be targeting Frank like the allies targeted Dresden in WWII.
Burn him down.
Ms. MonCrief, i hope you don't mind but that pic will be my new bumper sticker.
We're booting Bishop out down here in the 2nd CD. http://www.votebishopout.com One of his opponents out fund raised him last month with no out of state money. Biship's money was mostly out of state. They are all running scared, I just hope we keep up the chase.
I couldn't agree more–we need to be fighting in a lot more races than we are. Great work, Ms. MonCrief. I'm so happy you're on our side, now. The information you learned working for the other side is an incredibly valuable asset.
And Star Parker is running for Congress?!? I did not know that!! Why hasn't she been interviewed for the Big sites, Hot Air, National Review, Pajamas Media, or any other popular right-of-center site that I read? She's an inspiration, and would make a terrific addition to the House of Representatives. Go, Star, go!
Integrity/Competence….Competence/Integerity….Don't leave home or run for office without them..
We the People are parasitizing the Republican Party. In a 2 party system it is the only expedient way to reclaim our country. I spent two hours by myself outside the WalMart in Rockdale County in the hot sun yesterday waving a sign for Liz Carter. She is a conservative candidate, one of 4 people running for Congress in District 4 on the republican ticket. Her slogan is "Yank Hank" (Johnson). Hank is the Dem successor to Cynthia McKinney and almost as bad. I'm still waiting for Guam to Capsize! Last election he ran unopposed, so times have changed!
How much?
Prior to this January I had never met a politician and I am 67 years old. I had only voted in Presidential elections.
I have devoted many hours and $ to Liz's campaign, I had magnetic campaign signs made which I attach to my truck doors when in the district. I've marched in every parade her campaign has been at. Put out yard signs.
I have bought and read all of Glenn's books, and gave them away at work.
I now know every candidate local, state and federal in my voting area.
I can't even vote for Liz, since I don't live in her district! Nor can her very capable campaign manager!
We may not win, but it will NOT be as Anita says (thanks Anita) because we THINK it is "unwinnable".
We the People HAVE been awakened by BHO as to what this country dosen't need, and we are legion.
What everyone can do here is make sure you get at least 3 other people to VOTE! When Liz wins the primary here in district 4, let's show everyone we CAN "Yank Hank".

How about the “real deal” on Ray McKinney, for the voters – just to make sure they are all fully informed. I’m sure you didn’t mean to mislead them.
Carl was COMPLETELY cleared of the Hatch Act mess McKinney tried to smear him with.

Dirty politics will not win. Have you ever spoken to Carl? How do you know he's not the best to beat Barrow.
How do I know he is? McKinney doesn't want to repeal Obamacare – did you know 97% of it should be repealed?!?
http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d66/southgapass...
Did you know Ray Self Financed his campaign tho he claimed he had $80,000 of endorsed support?

Did you know Ray endorsed Carl for the first 9 months of his candidacy? Then refinanced his house and told Carl he had $80,000 in support and Carl should get out?
