CNN’s Cooper Apologizes for Not Challenging Sherrod on Racism Accusations, Delves Into Husband’s Newest Controversy

In the early stages of the Shirley Sherrod controversy, the media began to craft the narrative Shirley Sherrod was the embodiment of the term “post-racial.” Then on July 22nd on Anderson Cooper 360, this happened:
SHIRLEY SHERROD: I think he [BREITBART] would like to get us stuck back in the times of slavery. That’s where I think he would like to see all black people end up again. And that’s why…
COOPER: You think — you think he’s racist?
SHERROD: … I think he’s so vicious. Yes, I do.
Cooper, dumbfounded by Sherrod’s comments, did not muster any type of a challenge to Sherrod.
Flash forward to yesterday, and AC360 went on record to admit that he had erred by allowing Sherrod to deliver such provocative remarks unchecked, and said that he’d handle the situation differently if he had the opportunity again. Still, a good-faith Nexis search indicates that Cooper has not adequately alerted his viewership that Andrew Breitbart had in fact granted Shirley Sherrod her redemption in both the originally released footage of her speech to the NAACP audience and in his write-up that accompanied the video. We would appreciate it if he would broaden the contextual frame of the story to include that bit of information that has not been adequately conveyed by the media up until this point.
After his mea culpa, Cooper did something completely unexpected. He, along with reporter Joe Johns, aired the viral video clip of Charles Sherrod, Shirley’s Civil Rights legend husband delivering some choice remarks of his own:
CHARLES SHERROD: Finally, we must stop the white man and his Uncle Toms for stealing our elections. We must not be afraid to vote black. We must not be afraid to turn a black out who votes against our interest.
(END VIDEO CLIP)
COOPER: So, is this taken out of context the way Shirley Sherrod’s comments were taken out of context?
JOE JOHNS: It doesn’t appear to be. Apparently, he said what he meant, meant what he said.
Anderson Cooper not only owned up to a mistake, but granted this revealing footage (that turned up originally on conservative blogs) of Sherrod’s husband a broader audience. This is solid journalism, and hopefully others will take his lead.

The truth shall prevail and I know I have posted comments that others considered maybe racist but puhleeeze, this whole scenario smells like a dead corpse. Sherrod is a manipulator and Andrew knows it as we all do. The adrenaline running in the Sherrod veins blinds them to the "big" picture and will ulitmately make them look like racists as they are and will make ALL that apologized to them big fools, which is ok by me.
You go Andrew!! I know you are cunning and smart and all this will only prove how many stupid people are in this world. They obviously don't know how to play chess.

Well glory be! …Anderson Cooper may have swerved into the truth about the bigots Sherrod. Perhaps now use that new found understanding of his craft “journalism” to look into the racist tendencies of the NAALCP, who have outplayed their usefulness by forty plus years.
Racism is racism, I don't care what color you are! Just thinking about all the people (black and white) that fought so hard for equality…now, seems like it was all for nothing, when you hear statements like this! Was this kind of thinking simmering in the back of the minds of every person of color in this country..? Probably not every one, but an overwhelmingly large portion!
Yet, still through all of this we should not give up…Andrew had every right to air the video and Sherrod and her husband have both proven that!
I posted those links on every web site I could find for most of the week and liberals excoriated me for having the gumption to challenge their entitlement that libertarians and conservatives are racists and jackasses for accusing such a wonderful woman of being who she really is.
This is just the beginning. Wait until they get to the part where they find out she is an active, lifelong communist, Obama insider (knew him as a fellow communist) and has been a lifelong supporter of radical Black militant groups that not only advocate violence but include such criminals as H. Rap Brown and Stoakley Carmichael. Oh yeah, Ms. Sherrod has to be given a lot more space to explain EXACTLY who she really is and it is a very interesting picture. By all means, dig.

I think the truth of the reaction is more based on a member of the media being threatened with a lawsuit than anything political. No reporter likes the idea that they can be sued for showing an excerpt clip of anything, since that is what they do every single day.
In the back of their heads they're realizing that they may disagree with Andrew, but they can't condone him being threatened, or the same could happen to them.

Cone, Distinguished Union Professor of Systematic Theology and mentor to Jeremiah Wright in Black Liberation Theology–
According to PBS–Sherrod currently works as a chaplain at the Georgia State Prison.—–The degrees of Sherrod and Cone are different Cones's is above, Sherrods is in Sacred Theology STM, I am not an expert having only read a couple of articles on the net but STM seems to share some of the social justice and victim justice?? I don't agree with Anderson Coopers opinions most of the time. But that being said, I have to say I admire how he handled this matter.
This stuff with Sherrod doesn't pass the smell test. And the use of the term plantation by her husband is just more black rhetoric, like most of the rest of his comments. All these half century old black talking points are way past time worn. It's doubtful that a significant portion of the black community will ever be willing to look at themselves as part of the problem.
Breitbart need not apologize. The only thing I got out of the initial video was the black audience cheering and laughing at the parts of the story when she was mentioning "his kind of people", and other other anti-white comments.

Good point, and the best way to address anything in the religious realm (I'll learn that one of these days). I've long had a fascination with the 1950's testimony (to HUAC) of Bella Dodd, the 1930's-1940's head of CPUSA in NY, about communist infiltration of Catholic seminaries by dedicated comrades, with orders and how-to instructions for upward-mobility within the Church's hierarchy to positions of influence. The Liberation Theology movement within the Church had gained a strong toe-hold in Latin America by about 1970, which fits. Other variations, such as Black Liberation Theology seem to be the same church (lower case) – different pew.
My first (and best) guess on the route the video snippet took to Breitbart was and is through a Clinton conduit: It looks to me like a (Bill) "Clinton Two-fer," taking a chink or two out of the Obama camp plus a potential chink or two out of Breitbart and by association, the TEA Partiers and the Right in general. If so, it's a good bet that Andrew (& company) is not aware of the Clinton connection — no fingerprints.

Breitbart, as Jon Stewart has pointed out, is the only one who's been honest in this whole thing.
Cooper has an ulterior motive. I don't know what that motive is, but I'm sure we'll find out about it sooner rather than later.

You are giving Cooper, usually a "dumbfounded" pc lobotomied clueless twit, far too much credit. So he threw a bone out to appearing fair and balanced, big deal, he'll be his usual lefty drivel artist next week and thereafter.
That's how I see it, too.
That's right. It's more likely that they're trying to lure you to their side than it is that they've joined the right side.
