Tea Party Convention Exposes Progressive Left’s Age Discrimination Problem

It’s just so amazing how the Progressive Left is the champion of minorities and the elderly. Champions that is, so long as those demographics don’t dare dissent from the rigid party ideology. If any among the members of these otherwise protected groups are struck by an independent thought, they become targets for derision from the enlightened progressive movement.
Case in point: Condoleezza Rice being labeled an Uncle Tom (or worse).
Case in point: Sarah Palin being labeled stupid.
Both of these labels are inventions and slurs of the Left, reserved for anyone who strays from the Progressive reservation.
Another case in point is the Left’s rumblings over the older demographic on display at the Tea Party Convention last weekend.
While it is true that there were a lot of older people at the event, it would be a mistake to assume the movement is limited to the elderly. The age of the demographic is likely the result of a couple of factors, price and time-to-travel being just two examples which would skew the population of this particular event.
That point aside, it is foolish and revealing that the Progressive outrage machine has swung into full gear to smear the people of this event (or any other for that matter), based on their age (and skin color).
We would think that the all-compassionate and all-wise Left wouldn’t be so quick to characterize age as a negative factor when it comes to politics.
First, it’s just plain rude. And so once again, from the perspective of basic human decency, the puerile Left effectively demonstrates that it is bankrupt. That they so callously dismiss the validity of someone’s position because of age is the telltale sign of close-minded ignorance and the epitome of crass irreverence. Yet that is what the Left is doing – and with the incontestable assistance of their media lackeys.
Surely the Left might have something to learn from people who have been around long enough to have gained wisdom through life experience. It’s almost as though the Left is somehow threatened by the experience and wisdom of those who have lived long enough to actually remember the history from which we are supposed to be proverbially learning. Now why would that be?
Second, the last time we checked, there were a crap-load of old people in this country. They don’t call Social Security reform the 3rd rail of politics for nothing. It seems politically stupid for the Progressive movement to go out of their way to mock old people as a group simply because they hold a different set of beliefs than Progressive Democrats. Surely there is no political party that can afford to alienate a demographic as large and as electorally influential as the elderly of this nation, even if its acerbic insolence delivers short-term gratification to the most bitter among its political base.
But that’s how it is in America today. If you do not fall in lock-step with the Progressive Left, you are a racist-bigot-homophobic-idiot. Now you can add dinosaur to the list of epithets the Left reserves for anyone who does not subscribe to their group-think.

Sad, sometimes I counter-protest them when they hold their signs up in front of the retirement community where my parents live. I get thumbs up from the community busses as they drive the old dears back from their shopping in town.

There were a lot of young people involved in the Ron Paul movement as well as old. He had the Reagan Democrats behind him. His followers began this tea party movement which has quickly become a disgrace as it was co-opted by stodgy old traditional Republicans. I'm surprised they haven't had McCain speak yet! LOL! What a joke.

It is not so much they are having a problem with an older demographic. The representative representation of the Tea Party are older, children of the Greatest Generation. People old enough to still care about America, and feel it is their Patriotic and Civic Responsibility to do so.
The problem the left really has, that they won't vocalize, is the Looney Left has a insipid love affair with the "Pretty People". There aren't that many of them around. We are just regular folk. There aren't many Sean Penns, or Brad Pitts, or Angelina Jolies' to put a face on the Tea Party. Just average Americans, and the left doesn't know how to get their head around that fact.
It's ok for them to mock those in the Tea Party. It gives more free publicity to the cause. Progressives will very soon learn a few new words themselves.

Keep in mind that there is a new left strategy that claims to be a grass roots movement and criticizes conservatives at every turn. It is paid for by a couple of left wing lawyers – maybe a little Soros thrown in – and they are out to resist anything the Tea Party folks can try. They are sneaky and up against the wall. There is a push among some black advocates for Obama's administration to target black joblessness with training programs and direct job creation. The unemployment rate for blacks was 16.5% in January, compared to 9.7% overall

No one does, not even Social Security. I'm 58 and was reared with the sense of pride for country and myself. My whole family was Navy and all have passed on leaving me to carry on that tradition of pride for future generations. My age group learned to pledge allegiance to our Flag, learned civics, read the constitution and studied it, memorized the Gettysburg Address.
We now have lived with too big a gov't at local and federal level. Overtaxed for the nanny state WE never would take advantage of because of pride and attitude of if I didn't earn it, I don't want it. We paid into 2 nanny systems for 40 years and now it's been skimmed off from for 20 years. No lock box there.

Michelle Obama struck a blow today to establish herself more securely on the side of the Pretty People. She 'viewed with alarm' a bunch of Unpretty People – that is, overstuffed kids she calls obese. And she's calling for $10 billion to start a War Against Obesity, so she won't have her pretty eyes damaged by the sight of such sub-human creatures. It involves – surprise! – borrowing $10 billion from our grandkids to pay Democrats to hector and instruct and lecture and generally nanny storekeepers and food product manufacturers. Oh, and any unlucky parents they feel are too stupid to feed their kids right.
Poll results from the last presidential election do not support your anecdotal evidence that young people are somehow becoming more conservative. 66 percent of voters 18-29 voted for Obama. You were part of a distinct minority.

I was listening to some Progressive radio station this morning, (Tom something-or-other), and the commentators could not get past discussing the racial make up of the tea party attendees. There was no discussion of the convention topics or the origiins of the tea party movement. The fact that the demographics do not meet the pre-set "ratios" defined by God-konws-who requires that the whole movement be dismissed and ignored. Talk about a bunch of racist A-holes…..
