Lech Walesa: ‘America Is Moving Toward Socialism’
by Andrew MarcusOn Friday, January 29th, 2010, Lech Walesa, former President of Poland, traveled to Chicago to endorse Illinois Republican gubernatorial candidate, Adam Andrzejewski.
We were fortunate enough to have an opportunity to sit down with the President and Mr. Andrzejewski. Our video from that visit is below.
Items that stand out: 1) Lech Walesa tells his American Audience that the United States no longer leads the world politically or morally 2) At least one of your Founding Bloggers asks President Walesa if he thinks America is slipping toward Socialism. His Answer? Yes! 3) Andrzejewski is running on a platform of forensically auditing Illinois’ books and exposing corruption by making the details of the audit available to the public.

Now here is a man who knows what Socialism does first hand.
Illinois, please listen to him.
America approaching socialism….what a joke…. NOT
Walesa is a man who put his life on the line, and changed the world. He stood up and was counted.
It is time again for All good Men to stand up and be counted.
Well lets see there John….If a person lived under socialism he would probably know more about the subject than you.I know some people are in denial,or are trying to hide the fact.
Great interview! Listen to the people that have lived it.
We need leaders like a Reagan, Thatcher, and Pope Paul, to call it what it is, Marxism/ Socialism/ Statism/ Progressivism. Who will be our Reagan?
John….take off your blinders!!
I'll take his word for it, as opposed to the word of "John", an anonymous poster.
Sorry "John"…. NOT
Finally!
America is ready to heed the Democrat's cry:
MAKE ME LESS FREE

Ignore their words and watch their deeds. Having grown up in a family that had been intimately connected to democratic machine politics, the corruption in Illinois poitics is so rampant that any investigation is bound to expose tons of corrupt actions. Like the Unions, Illinois Dems cannot stand the light that an investigation would provide. I more one hope is that the electorate and rank and file of the unions will one day wake up, rise up and demand the truth. Obama will say just about anything, it is his actions that can and should speak louder than his words (lies).
Try reading some books, John. Maybe you should start with our Founding Fathers and what they believed in. Then try reading our Constitution and see what it says, as opposed to what the media claims. Then read some Marx and other socialists. Then read about what people like Walesa went through under extreme socialism–he wrote a good book about it. Then see how funny you really are…. NOT
Thank you Mr. Walesa. Sadly, many of our young people probably have no idea who you are or what you fought so hard for in your own country. Hopefully many of us will rally, just as you did, stand up for what is right and take our country back.
Thank you President Walesa for your words of wisdom.
When NO-Bama was traveling the world apologizing for the US he should have stopped in Poland and apologized for Trueman not listening to General Patton. Can you imagine what your country would be like if you never lived under the Soviets.
I would like our friend "John the Anonymous" learn to think.
Illinois needs an Adam Andrzejewski and Pat Hughes for starters! Spread the word.
Doesn't any find the true irony in this?
Walesa put his life on the line, and changed not only Poland, but the world. The US has had friendly relations with Poland for many years. Polish immigrants have helped build America into what she is.
Then, a few short months ago, Barry the Brazen bailed on Poland, with the military defense systems. Has everyone forgot that? Barry slapped Poland across the face, and flipped them the bird. I sure hope Lech Walesa makes a difference supporting that candidate. It would indeed be sweet revenge.
Barry has yet to learn that revenge is a dish best served cold.
John in case you have a problem with reading comprehension rent a movie. “The Lives of Others.” A nifty little film about the East German Stazi, and Obama’s perfect world. Report back on how cool…that would be?
Walesa may very well be the only good thing to ever come from a labor union. It's a shame the Libtards won't listen to people that lived in their "Socialist Utopias".
Imagine that, Barry Insane NO-Bama turned his back on freedom and embraced tyranny with that decision.
Unions can be good when they are initially formed to right a wrong. After the wrong is righted, they tend to lose their way as they try to find other reasons to justify their existence.
True.
It all comes down to balance.
Perhaps principles like honour, integrity, and truth come into play also. Unfortunately, unions reach a point where they outlive their usefullness and intended purpose. They go from a legitimate function of representing their rank and file, to an unmitigated Ponzi scheme. Bernie Maddof should have been a Union Boss.
[...] that Walesa has backed an American candidate for office. Andrew Marcus from Founding Bloggers and Big Government interviewed Lech and Adam on Friday in Chicago: Lech Walesa: “The United States was always [...]
I personally believe labor unions here in the U.S. outlived their usefulness around 1950. They exist now to make the union bosses rich and do more harm to the blue-collar workers they are supposed to help.
Leaders like Walesa, Vaclav Klaus, and Angela Merkel are conservative for a different reason than you and I… they lived under the brutality and systemic failure of socialism for much of their adult lives… and it was a nightmare.
So why do today's "Progressives" purport such a romanticized view of socialism, in complete contrast to those born behind the Iron Curtain? Because these hopenchangey slush-heads have no idea what they're talking about, that's why-
http://reaganiterepublicanresistance.blogspot.com...
I would tend to agree with you.
Funny, whenever Unions are discussed anymore, Jimmy Hoffa gets left out of the conversation. Probably the only Union more corrupt, more brutal, and more violent than the Teamsters, is the United Mine Workers.
Nice little blog article, I like it.
John-
Do you know any FIRST GENERATION Americans, whose families left socialist/communist countries for FREEDOM to speak, to think, to learn, to live the American Dream, to give their children a better life than what they had?? I DO. I AM A FIRST GENERATION AMERICAN of Slovenian descent!
I KNOW THE TRUTH!! I know what my grandparents and parents lived through. Their home and land taken from them by government and gamily members killed for not supporting communist/nazi beliefs. Until ignorant people like yourself want to educate themselves and learn the truth about history, stupid comments should be left unwritten.
Learn the FACTS! There are still many in the U.S. who have come here LEGALLY who could better educate the ignorant than PROGRESSIVE DEMOCRAT written so-called history books!!
We are moving left from center right because we have a bunch of uneducated morons voting for left wing loons just like Obama throughout state and Federal elections. Here is a video to prove it:

While I appreciate Mr. Walesa's observations, an endorsement of a candidate for governor seems highly inappropriate. Foreign interference in American political campaigns should not be tolerated at any level. This pretty much ensures that I will not vote for Andrzejewski. He went to Poland and solicited this endorsement…bad move.
Exactly! And I'm a retired union member.
Let's not discount the SEIU at the present time. They are throwing their weight around maliciously even in my state.
Apparently, some people object to the word "Socialism."
Fine by me. As Shakespeare said, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet."
In this case, substitute "Titan arum" for "rose" …
Respectfully disagree.
I consider him an American Hero. There is no way Reagan could have had the fortune that he did w/o Lech and the Pope.
Poor, poor johnny, he dosen't seem to ever take his blinders off. Oh my, what's your definition of socialism, lil'johnny? As if we'll ever get a reply. America is a Representative Republic, governed by the Constitution, as the FF's envisioned….what a sad joke….NOT. ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Hanzo
Brilliant strategy! I love the idea of running on the platform "of forensically auditing Illinois’ books and exposing corruption by making the details of the audit available to the public." I can think of a few more states that could probably use this as a winning platform during this period of corruption and state budgets are being cut drastically, due to the economic pressures we are experiencing. Go Adam! I will keep an eye on this. Its great to see Mr. Walesa.

If we really want change; IL should vote for Adam Andrzejewski
I love when guys and girls like John create inane posts like this on sites that are filled with intelligent, thoughtful posts that are on-topic. John is obviously not capable of creating a positive thoughtful idea, such as the post he created under the blog re :‘RedEye’ Robot Theatre With MSNBC’s David Shuster" (except there he mistakenly used his last name, Evans). And lest you think we are ashamed of our stances and are afraid to use our real names, my name is Edd Miller. Good to meet you.
Please John, continue to post your thoughts regularly. You are absolutely welcome here at BigGovernment.
You completely and fully validate us.
stop paying your income taxes….then you'll see how free you really are……..NOT.
try telling all those millions of saps on food stamps, welfare, sect 8 subsidies, social security, medicare, medicaid, that we are not a socialist nation, and they will say – hell no!!!!!!!!…..but just try cutting their entitlements, and give them the liberty to fend for themselves??????
oh yeah, we are now rapidly moving to not socialism??? NOT.
Folks tend to forget, The United Mine Workers were a rather "Progressive" lot. There is the key word, again.
"The United Mine Workers of America (UMW or UMWA) is a North American labor union that represents not only coal miners, but also clean coal technicians, health care workers, truck drivers, manufacturing workers and public employees throughout the United States and Canada.[1] One of the groups in the forefront of the fight for collective bargaining in the early 20th century, the UMW was founded in Columbus, Ohio, on January 22, 1890, by the merger of two earlier groups, the Knights of Labor Trade Assembly No. 135 and the National Progressive Union of Miners and Mine Laborers. It was modeled after the American Federation of Labor (AFL).
After passage of the National Recovery Act in 1933, organizers spread out throughout the United States to organize all coal miners.
During the 1930s the UMWA was often thought by many men in the field as being too involved in "Washington Politics" spawning such alternative unions such as the Progressive Mine Workers.

I consider Lech Walesa an American Hero. I can name a handful of Americans from Chicago that are anything but…
And. While we are at it let's bring in another American Hero. Vaclav Klaus, President of Czech Republic, gets my vote to head the EPA. His brave stance in the face of fierce criticism is what true LEADERS do. He was the resistance that we sorely needed to neutralize bogus "Americans" like Gore et al.
Mr. Klaus knew what the heads at the EPA didn't. In the private sector those heads at the EPA ROLL. In the public sector the heads at the EPA get to circumvent reality to concoct another hoax for a family of derivatives and other financial instruments leveraged by a gas in the atmosphere.
You don't need to be a trader to see the vast gulf of transparency. If you thought the Sub-prime crisis was – to put in mildly – a disaster then look out. At least Sub-prime was leveraged by something you could kick and touch (although in many cases they used the same house several times….um securities fraud).
Wait until the banksters get their hands on CO2 swaps. Guys! Jamie. Llyod. When we asked for transparency we weren't referring to the assets. Send in Vaclav Klaus to clean up this mess.
Of course, one cannot talk about the United Mine Workers and forget about the Battle of Blair Mountain.
"The Battle of Blair Mountain was the largest organized armed uprising in American labor history and led almost directly to the labor laws currently in effect in the United States of America. For nearly a week in late August and early September 1921, in Logan County, West Virginia, between 10,000 and 15,000 coal miners confronted company-paid private detectives in an effort to unionize the southwestern West Virginia mine counties. Unionization had succeeded elsewhere as part of a demographic boom that was triggered by the extension of the railroad and was characterized by unprecedented immigrant hiring in the region."

Stephen Adams: You probably never experience life under Communism rule so you don't appreciate Mr. Walesa to come here to campaign for us. I am a Commusnist victim and was excited seeing him came to Illinois. His participation in our politics is a bless for our Republic. Vote all Progressive Democrats out in the next elections or you will never and never see sunshine again.
Mr. Andrzejewski…..please take the time to not only do a Forensic audit of the books detailing the annual operating statements….but also look at the State of Illinois' Balance Sheet……tearing apart the annual operating budget is only a small piece of the bigger puzzle. You see, many years of past tax revenues have been hidden on the balance sheet….earning compounded interest…hiding the true State's assets and cash avaible to be used when needed. All states accross the US have used their balance sheets to hide reserves, assets, etc. while crying to the public each year that they must increase tax rates to match their increased spending on entitlement programs…..what a masterfully well played game it is…..but years of cash on hand on balance sheets is never dipped in to when needed……why not?????? you might find the answers if you dig deep enough………………….
Naturalfake, you provided a very good link to your thoughtful article. But, you must be careful to make it more obvious when you are being sarcastic – not all folks click the provided links. I very much enjoyed the ideas you presented.
Why cant we find someone like Lech Walesa for president? Someone who knows the difference between capitilism and socialism, and which one has worked.
Is Casmir Pulaski Day still a state holiday in Illinois?
As I recall the whole of Western Europe endorsed Pres. Obama, and no one batted an eye.
I live in IL and, unfortunately, Adam has virtually no chance of winning the primary. He's not even polling in the top 3.
The Chicago Tribune endorsed McKenna. He has name recognition and personal wealth which has allowed him to run a lot of ads. He's not my choice but he's better than any of the Democrats.
Once again, we won't get the best, just not the worst.
I never heard of Casmir Pulaski Day, and I was born
and raised in Chicago, so I had to google it….Now I know
why I didn't know about it…I left Chicago in 1976…
"The State of Illinois has since 1977 celebrated Casimir Pulaski Day on the first Monday of March, doubtlessly due to the large Polish population of Chicago"
As long as its not Dllard!!! Repubs have a long way to go to rebuild and clean house in Illinois. PS I wish Edgar would just go away, his picture is next to the definition of RINO.
If we were just talking about a name, I would agree. But Socialism is not just a label; it's a way of life.
loh valensa is a dark horse himself. back home he's unpopular because of corruption in his own office. now he comes here and lectures us? he put his own country and his own citizens at clear and present danger of being wiped out by nukes. he did so by licking the boots of american president and offering polish land for "missle defense" like his predeccessors did for hitler. that's all these guys are. they're coning boot lickers. a polish campaigns for another polish. next time there is a chinese candidate he might bring a chinese president to campaign for him. you all must be fools to cheer. Look at what's hapening.it's a false flag. loh valensa is a "yes sir" for pentagon. this is stinks. false flag people.
Isn't it strange that both blacks and women got the vote at the same time and that it was women primarily that voted obama in as President! Isn't it even more strange that our forefathers didn't allow or want either blacks or women to vote? You also must realize that this was a big deal with progressives in this era. However, maybe our forefathers actually were smarter than I ever gave them credit for being. I mean that our forefathers didn't put a known Marxist in as President!
Not one fact in this post. What was your first language, Russian perhaps?
He's not even in office, you dolt. He was president from 1990-95.
Sorry facts come from empirical study and research not whatever is being transmitted through your tinfoil hat.
I am in full agreement with you, Stephen. Lech Walesa is a foreigner and has no business meddling in our politics. And it's no coincidence that he's supporting a Polish candidate. Ethnic favoritism is not acceptable.
And Dave, please…Walesa is not an American, the United States is Protestant not Catholic, and the Pope had nothing to do with Reagan's success.
to compare the Solidarity movement daring to even exist behind the Iron Curtain with the overpaid, over-pensioned, underworked, petulant, greedy clowns that make up Big Labor in this country borders on blasphemy. and i've no doubt Mr. Walesa knows it, too.
in a recent news story about the upcoming census, i read that Russian & Eastern European immigrants are particularly fearful of complying with the survey- even more so than Hispanics. funny how people who have actually lived under the boot of a totalitarian regime are the most distrustful of the 'benevolence' of government…
Are they overpaid like doctors are overpaid? Funny you seem to feel righteous to pass judgment like that.
Lech Walesa is a foreigner but he's not meddling in our politics. He is "WARNING" Americans to wake up to the SOCIALISTIC direction our country is headed to. I have more respect for Walesa seeing as he "LIVED" through this type of government and their control.
Three problems with this post.
First, it's would be hard for America to be seriously called the "land of the free" when native born Black people have fewer constitutional rights than White immigrants.
Second, Blacks initially and overwhelmingly voted Republican because the GOP was the anti-slavery and thus pro-freedom party. Sadly, from the 1960s on, the GOP has too often let the Left use every venue (news, public schools, art, etc.) to push the lie that the Democrats are pro-Black. So, OF COURSE, most Black people would vote for Obama after decades of unchallenged brainwashing.
Finally, young White people overwhelmingly voted for Obama and thus pushed him over the top. As with Black people, young Whites are victims of the same widespread pro-Democrat/anti-GOP propaganda. Read more here:
http://www.americanthinker.com/2009/10/why_white_...
In short, Obama's win was largely due to the GOP and conservatives in general underestimating how news, art, and education can impact whether people (Black, White, etc.) vote for freedom or tyranny in America.
It's one thing to conduct proper foreign affairs as President, and diplomatic duties are delegated to the President, with the advice and consent of the Senate. That was POST election. A big difference. Not to mention that we're talking about a governor here. The states ceded independent foreign policy to the federal government. So this relationship is even more concerning in a primary election for a state office…
Oh, they did. I had a real problem with it. It was inappropriate, and if a US President or Senator intervened and took a stand in a national election overseas, you would hear howls of protest from the Old World. Which makes the Europeans a bunch of hypocrites on this issue.
Energizer – you have no idea about my background and where I've lived (suffice it to say that I have lived and worked outside the US, and speak 3 languages fluently). I agree that Mr. Walesa is a hero. I agree he was important is ending Communist hegemony in Europe. But that does not give him the right to interfere in internal American politics. Andrzejewski was wrong to travel to Poland to solicit the endorsement and Waslesa was wrong to give it. This is an internal American matter.
Ethnic favoritism is not acceptable? Tell that to the 95% of blacks who voted for Obama simply because he is black (half black actually). Nobody cared about his politics, his inexperience and the Chicago style corruption he is tainted with. It was simply ethnic. I trust a Walesa's opinion and experience substantially more than I trust yours. Your last remark about the pope etc. proves that you don't even remember the circumstances that brought about the breakdown of the Soviet Empire with Reagan being one of the key people in it, just as was the pope. The countries that started the exodus from under Soviet domination are all catholic, Hungary, Poland, and the rest of the eastern european countries formerly behind the iron curtain. Check out a geography and history book sometime. However, if you went to inner city schools or school in California you can be forgiven for your lack of background.
City of Chicago for the most part – much of the rest of the state ignores it. Banks are open, etc.
Do you have any idea why this was the case??? Have you ever visited any of these countries??? I have. Those that supported and partied after BHO was elected were celebrating the "DOWNFALL" of American exceptionalism. These western european countries celebrated because Americans would now be "JUST LIKE THEIR OWN SOCIALIST COUNTRIES". We've moved toward having a faux-president; we now have a Dictator.
God bless Lech Walesa! God bless Adam Andrzejewski! If he doesn't win with an endorsement like this then America is truly without hope.
John,
I have a copy of a pamphlet put out by the American Communist Party that shows their platform (wish list) for the 1938 elections. If I redacted anything that identifies the party and the year, you would swear that it was the platform of the Democratic Party of 2008. The president and democrats in congress are attempting to drag us kicking and screaming into a socialist/fascist world. Wake up! before it is too late!
Lech Walesa is a witness to the core of American exceptionalism, the notion that the state serves the individual and not the other way around. A committment to the transcendant goodness and integrity of each man individually is at the heart of American democracy and free markets, the opposite to this notion, totalitarianism, communism, socialism, that is what Pres. Walesa fought against and won against. He opinion is invaluable and his words are no more a meddling in American political life than any other non- US citizen who speaks on behalf of democracy or, as is more common, immigrates to the U.S. He is not an outsider.
Bill Clinton endorsed Tony Blair!!
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/dubo...
First, This still sounds like a progressive argument to me. I didn't call it the "land of the free," the forefathers did! As I said in a previous post, both women and blacks got the vote at the same time, but not at the time of the writers of the Constitution! It (black and women's vote) came much later. Second, FDR created the welfare state and geared it for the black population and that really is why they became Democrats! Sort of like today, when about 60 % now of Democrats really are progressives (Marxist). Third, white people, as you say, who voted in the past election were actually primarily white women. There was not enough of a white male vote to elect him as president because they tended not to vote! As I also said, walk down any street in America and you can plainly "see" the black men walking hand in hand with the white women, rarely vice versa. That's just is what it is out there and that is the difference!!! I'm not even going to go into my struggle with women teachers from 1st grade through high school. However, when I got to college, I picked only male professors and finally began to get A's as grades! PS: I'm happily married to an Italian woman and this summer will be our 30th anniversary, so I'm not a flipper!
This Fonz guy is really stretching it, now he's comparing
doctors to union members…Unbelievable!!..I wouldn't waste
my time arguing with him!!
Yes. Casimir Pulaski is honored in IL for his contributions to the American Revolution. He is said to be the Father of the American Cavalry.
Chicago doesn't speak for downstate. Don't count Adam out yet.
Walesa is a true hero of liberty. His comments nail the current situation.
There is no doubt that the Democrats are all about making America socialist. The "moderate" Democrats vote for the same socialist legislation as the "liberal" Democrats – there is no difference between them. The "moderate" Democrats only pretend to hold their nose when voting for socialist legislation to fool gullible moderates. The interesting thing is that it worked.
Do you remember this one?…Obumble sticking his coke nose
into the Hondurans business when they ousted their dictator
in favor of free elections…Dear Leader sided with Castro and
Chavez…..I guess that was ok, because the Left is the Left, and
they are blinded by his brilliance….lol, That last sentence is
tongue in cheek!!
Obama speaks up for Zelaya, Honduran Dictator
http://www.openmarket.org/2009/07/02/obama-stands...
That has to be one of THE most frightening thing I have EVER seen in my life and so in line with why we are stuck with the arrogant empty suit/socket puppet, Obama.
The amount of doctors available is actually controlled just like labor unions manipulate the pool of labor.
Walesa is a true man with testicular fortitude. Another is the late Pope John Paul II, who when I was a kid in the fifties attending Polish parochial school, would make clandestine trips back and forth from Poland to raise funds for Polish freedom. He would visit Polish parishes where second generation Polish-Americans would give him support, both emotionally and financially.
We need Americans to stand up now, as these brave men did.
Massive turnout of honest voters is the only thing that will overcome the Chicago machine. That is Illinois' only hope.
Poland is one of our strongest allies. Obammy's actions are disgraceful.
Revenge is a dish best served. We vote, we win.
Seems more like facism to me!
Unions, like any organization that is formed to force positive change upon a society ,when infiltrated by the mob and/or liberals will turn out to be a destructive force.
Ethnic Catholics left the Dem party, in droves, to vote for Reagan! Until then, they had been a gigantic voting block for Dems; especially the Irish and the Italians. Many stayed with the GOP.
Il., Chicago in particular, has a HUGE Polish ancestry population.
With blacks giving Obama 95% of that population's vote, you are beyond stupid, to have posted what you did. And what about Obama going to Nigeria, as a sitting SENATOR, to campaign for Odinga? I bet that that was just fine with you…………………………though it was ILLEGAL for Barry to have done that.
Gede, Sonja, Obama told the world that "America is NOT a Christian nation" and you're claiming that it is a "Protestant nation" ? Really……………..we have a state religion? Since when?
[...] the way: The mainstream media may not be tuned into Adam Andrzejewski but the internet sure is. And, today I had the great honor of introducing Adam at the rally. Comments [...]
So was the election in Nigeria, but THAT didn't stop Obama from going there, while still a SENATOR from Il. and his hate thrown into the ring for the presidency, to campaigning for Odinga.
Bet you never once complained that Barry did that.
I would hope that you would base your vote on something intelligent like the candidates policies, not your preferences. Vote substance not emotion.
When I left the Army in 87, I got a job at Yellow Freight. A Teamster Job, loading and unloading trucks, yes, big labor is overpaid, and underworked. Sure the new guy has to work, but the guys with seniority get to sham and make twice as much money as the new guy without even doing half the work. They voted and negotiated themselves a pay raise on the back of the new guy with a two tier pay system. talk about selfish and greedy bastards!
It's in the dictionary John, starts with the letter S……. as in STUPID!
Like the non-union jobs do with illegal aliens. At least in the former situation the ones getting paid are Americans and the money isn't shipped to Mexico.
Humor isn't their forte unless you are talking of crude juvenile humor –
It's always been and forever will be posts that are mean in spirit, which I just don't understand.
Does that suggest a knowing that there is no counter argument? Or is this a tool simply to invade boards and annoy people? I guess I just don't get it and should be somewhat grateful that my thoughts don't run in that direction ~
I agree Cardon, it's akin to fighting with a child who just won't listen. That comparison was so odd it just takes a minute to realize he is serious! Wouldn't give his ramblings the time of day.
The United States is Protestant? really? I didn't realize that when it is said the some 85 % consider themselves Christian, that meant they are all Protestant.
Walesa isn't meddling, he's talking/sharing, which last I checked that's allowed.
And last but not least, my favorite – 'ethnic favoritism is not acceptable' – that is really rich.
So by your words any black person who voted for BO based on his race, was wrong?!
