Hypocrisy Matters For America
by Andrew Marcus
Media Matters is taking the Tea Party Convention to task regarding its limited credentialing for press access.
Tea Party convention hosts Palin and bans the press. Except Palin employer Fox News
Media message from the right wing: If you don’t give the Tea Party “fair coverage,” then you will be banned from covering its convention.
And who says the conservative movement doesn’t hold journalism in contempt?
So….when a quasi political convention held by a private group selectively excludes dissenting media, that’s contempt. But when the White House selectively excludes dissenting media, singling them out for vilification, that’s just fine with Media Matters.
For the record, I would like to see lamestream media outlets there. More often than not, when they cover the Tea Parties, they embarrass themselves in a way that simultaneously exposes their bias, while energizing and growing the base.
Hell, I’d like to see Susan Rosegen there. She’s ratings gold for me! But this is a private event and it’s up to the organizers to determine what they feel is best for their convention.
That said, the hypocrisy of Media Matters position on this issue is legendary, considering their fundamental working relationship with MoveOn.org and Brave New Films, in their “Fox Attacks” campaign to persuade the entire Democratic party to boycott a dissenting news organization.
Below is a video clip of Brave New Films and MoveOn promoting their Fox Attacks boycott campaign at the Yearly Kos Convention 2007.
And here is a link to Media Matters posts at Brave New Films, most of which are under the category “Fox Attacks.”
Media Matters reveals their hypocritical partisanship (again) by condemning a privately funded group for excluding hostile media, while at the same time contributing to a campaign designed to deny media access to publicly funded parties and government.
Par meets course.

Seems to me a legitimate gripe would be, why doesn't Obama
and gangsters allow the media or C-Span in their healtcare
negotiations….I would think that would be more important then
a Teaparty meeting.
Let them in. We are smart enough to know what they are doing. It's foolish to deny them more rope with which they can hang themselves.
Media Matters.
Does it?
One can smell the fear in the air. It is palpable.
Almost like a fart in church……………………………………………..
I also think that the msm should be there! We should NOT cower to the same thing that they do! I agree with the first two posts…let the embarrass and hang themselves…that is, if anybody even bothers to pay attention to them! And, I would definitely let CNN in, if only to make further fools of themselves, like they did last time!! We need to show the world and America WE ARE NOT like the administration …doing things behind closed doors!! Let them ALL know we are coming for them!!!
If I were the lady who fingers of the other one were in my face, that lady might be missing a finger. As for us in the Tea party Movement, I thought the liberals didn't think we were a force to be reckoned with anyway, so why do they NOW want to infiltrate us? HMMMMM? I remember dear leader "not seeing" any of us in D.C. when we were several thousand strong. I seem to remember him getting out of town!
I might be sympathetic to the MSM cause…if I weren't laughing so hard…
Nice to see someone telling the propagandists to get bent…
No one is buying their papers, no one is watching their news. I think his is absolutely the best thing I have heard. A high profile demonstration that they are inconsequential. If you pay attention to the screaming child they learn to scream more. If on the other hand you ignore them,,,,, NBC who???? ABC who???? CBS who??? Oh, Fox, we have heard of you!!!! Let them know in no uncertain terms, THEY DON'T MATTER!
Let 'em in. This goes against the Tea Party principles of true openess. I hope this is not a sign of things to come.
I hear that there's a cost issue involved in the larger press coming to the event.
Lest Media Mutters blows an equally rated tube over the opaque backroom deliberations concerning healthscare reform, methinks they protest too much.

That said, the lamestream and other 5th column media will have people there anyway, with hidden cameras and audio recorders. Let them in, I say. Maybe they'll learn something.
Let them in! We know they are disengenuous and when you let them spread their BS, they only further prove our point!
Let them in! it is hypocrisy not to! if fox had any balls they would turn them down, like everyone else did for them!
The one the thing the Left has been able to accomplish over the last 20 or so years, is to create a new sense of middle and lower class elitism. "Grass root" activist that are compelled to fight a perceived enemy, that only exists in the realm of an elitist ideology masquerading as a social ideology. The end really does just the means for them, and the end is drawing nearer…Let's hope the implosion of the Democratic Party brings about substantive change in the mind sets of our civic leaders. The Liberals are already on a self-destructing path. Will the Conservatives follow suite and play the ideological shell game the Liberals have been successful with…?
NO-NO-NO! We all know what kind of coverage they gave us last year. Enough already. After a Town Hall that I attended with the Ho Landreau, the 'reporter' from New Orleans, described it saying that "the police had their guns and were wearing bullet proof vests-it's a good thing they weren't needed." THEY ARE NOT GOING TO GIVE ANYTHING NEAR THE FACTS! THEY ARE NOT GOING TO CHANGE! How many protests over the years have you seen where there were maybe 1-2 dozen 'astroturfed' protesters getting absolutely favorable coverage. Think about it-countless. Compare that with the ignoring/twisting of the TEA Party/912 type movement.
On a side note, if someone can find video of Susan Rosgen's coverage of the ship [Bright Star?], when it hit the Riverwalk in New Orleans, and add to that her embattled coverage of the TEA party, one can see what kind of 'talent' these people have. Quite a stark contrast to the way they look when they have a teleprompter in front of them. And then think of the talent of TOTUS. Once these types are OT [off telepromter], they are NOTHING.
You've got a point. Maybe they want to see the MM blow a gasket. LOL
I'm going to have to pull a Voltaire. Even thought they're coverage was horrendous, for the Tea Party to embrace the same thing would be a step down the path of destruction.
Main stream media will be there…just not the one's that will tear down the house. It is wonderful that TPN will make sure they get the kind of media coverage they need to get the constitutional conservative point of view across. I look forward to watching Obermann, Maddow, and the rest of them foam at the mouth over this. If they think that's bad, just two words: November Nineteenth. But hey, it ain't over yet. Wait until November. Wailing and gnashing of teeth time. Gee, I love this country.
That's too funny!
Of course they want to infiltrate. That's always been their strategy and they've had phenomenal success with it in the past: see our Government!
Why does the lame stream media think they need to be there? They are just going to make their stories up anyway… seeing the event with their own eyes can't help their efforts any, and might actually hurt them.
I thought Tea Partiers didnt matter, a side show, fringe group. Why would they want to waste their time with that?
That dusty old tome just never gets old for them, does it? Liberals are so completely predictable. It also has the added benefit of making them easier to identify.
Actually, I could care less that MSM aren't being invited to a PRIVATE affair. MSM has ignored or ridiculed the Tea Party Movement since its inception. It's puzzling to me why they would care now. I'm not a keeper of detailed statistics, but how many Democrat PRIVATE affairs are the media invited to? The media can't even get inside publically funded affairs like Health Care negotiations, but I haven't heard too much outrage from them over that. Cry me a river… I can't hear you.
It's just not fair, it's just not fair! I'm going to tell on you! (Sounds of little feet stomping) Yawn….. Media Madders is a more accurate name for them.
While I appreciate the "fight fire with fire" tactic, I think it's a bad move to exclude the state-run media. We're all bitching (rightfully so) about the lack of openness of PrezBO, Dingy Harry and Princess Nancy. Closing out the State-Run media the way they have closed out C-Span shows the same kind of hypocrisy…
I remember a CNN reporterette at the Chicago Tea Party interviewing a guy with a kid on his shoulders, trying 30 ways from Sunday to paint him as a KKKook with one leading question after another. She was the laughingstock of journalism for about 20 minutes.
I am inclined to believe them when they say they are hard pressed to accommodate a large contingent of media. This is a new "movement" just on the scene and has little experience in such things. That being said it WILL be great theatre to watch the liberal stalinists getting the very treatment they advocate for talk radio, fox news etc.
Look, everyone. It's a shilling troll! If you had any balls, you wouldn't be hiding behind an anonymous login name.
MediaMatters is irrelevant, only exists for kool Aid drinkers. As Andrew points out it is so called MSM that provides the real humor.

Tell the others to get their ratings up, and then they might be considered for admission. Until then, the limited exposure they might provide simply isn't worth the effort of accommodating them.
When an organization is funded for the sole purpose of attacking conservatives and libertarians, such is the case with Media Matters, then naturally they're going to create controversy where none truly exists.
The real shame is on the members of the public who don't think for themselves and, indeed, allow themselves to get worked up about something that was turned into an issue soley because the employees of Media Matters need to receive a paycheck at the end of the month.
Palin is a private citizen and as such can do and say whatever she wants. Now does everyone see what a smart move it was to resign from the governor's position.
Keep the media out. Let them work to get the information.
I have to agree with you, BigDadio. To let them in would be to invite ridicule. Not only that, once you let them in it becomes all about them. I've seen all the Garraffalo I care to.
I'm sure there will be some backsliding. It took roughly 200 years to get to this point. It'll take at least half that long to get it back. That's assuming we take the peaceful route.
I like the site. A sense of humor is a priceless gift.
Hey. Our government isn't listening to us, why should we listen to them? Everyone needs someone to ignore. Fox rules (literally, look at the numbers!).
I see your point. But at the same time, look at all the attention barring them from the meeting is bringing to the event.
Personally, my response to the msm would be that we will be discussing matters of Truth and Honor. You'll only be allowed in if you bring an interpreter.
Indeed. The only thing that we hide behind is the Constitution!
Us being smart enough isn't the issue. It's the American public's overall IQ that concerns me. You can't tell me they aren't gullible. If not, how do you explain Obama and this Congress?
Is it just me, or were there an awful lot of empty chairs at that "convention"?
Now you’re getting warm Chile.
Call out the instigators
Because theres something in the air
Weve got to get together sooner or later
Because the revolutions here
Beautiful Chile… Beautiful.
Yes, the Revolution is here.
But I'm not going to wear a Che' t-shirt, or a beret…………
The thing is …knowing how they 'work' things, they will find a way in…just curious as to how they do it…
Let the media in. It doesn't help our cause by shutting them out. You think the MSM is going to say nice things about us either way? At least if they see what's going on we can rebut them and show them up for the partisan shills they are. I also have a hard time understanding the charge of $500.00 per person to attend. That seems to go against what the Tea Party movement is all about. It just sounds like someone capitalizing on a popular trend who's trying to make a quick buck. Just seems a little fishy to me.
I may not be able to produce 1 credential on this [media] matter, but I know of what I speak. I have been watching and learning for years. These news presenters are nothing but hollywood type actors. Listen to the cadence and inflection of their speak. If you talked like that, at home, or in public, people would be concerned about your mental stability. Seriously, take note of the difference between on and off script. Most are senseless idiots. With that said, do we really want them spreading OUR message. Let them Wither On The Vine.
Fair is fair. Keep the MSM out.
We're using their tactics against them!
This is a Revolution man. The time for being nice has sadly come to an end. Conservatives have played by the being polite & PC rules far too long. YOUR elected representative DOES NOT want to listen to you. And the formerly MSM are part of their machine. It is time they start playing by OUR rules
LET'S ROLL.
Given that Tea Partiers are smarter than your average bear, perhaps this was all a ploy to get more media coverage by denying coverage?? Maybe by disallowing all news agencies from covering the story, the Tea Party organization will automatically get coverage that they would not otherwise have gotten? Just a thought.
Dont invite ANY of the media, have C-span cover it. Make them use the C-span coverage to make up their story.
I'm a huge fan of the Tea Parties. However, if we don't let 'em in, it's simply a "French Revolution" atmosphere. The Founding Fathers would never have put up with press being excluded. If the press isn't at the Tea Party atmosphere, then our country is doomed. The Dems are totally lost, The Reps have been going down a wrong path, and if the Tea Party doesn't allow the press, then they will be going down the "We Know Best" path.
Doubtful CSPAN would cover it. They'd leave themselves open to too much criticism if they did.
Do we have a "French Revolution" or a "1776 Revolution"?
I say let's join with them and boycott the MSM. A couple of weeks with no viewers, no paper sales, no website hits, and they will have a choice to make. Get back to being journalists, or die.
Strong point Look. 54% voted for Obama. Ignorance is rampant. Before, 'they' wanted you to pay attention; now they just want you to pay. I still like the strategy of feeding them more rope.
You are assuming that the press will actually do their proper jobs. Which they aren't. Therefore, they are not worthy.
Why would Media Matters even bother to show up. Why not save a few bucks(by not sending anybody) and do what they usually do, just make stuff up.
I say let them in, but have reporters reporting on their reporting. And also let them see just how little we think of them with signs and our disparaging comments about the LameStream Media when they ask participants questions.
the lady pointing the finger is a member of the tea party movement. the other lady is from cnn. she is pointing her finger at her because the cnn lady was pointing out the ones with signs and giving a biased report. The tea party lady let her have it. It was awesome. The sooner the msm understands how strong of a movement we are the better. The socialist regime of Obama is about to crumble at his feet. Pray that Brown wins Massachusetts on Tuesday!

This guy is a real pos. Go get in line for your free healtcare commie. I am sure everything is nice and "fair and even" in the line while you wait with everyone else.
The legacy media no longer is relevant. Who cares if they whine about not being invited. Who listens to them anymore anyway?

Why would the organizers of the Tea Party convention want biased media coverage of their event? The people who are interested in news of the convention know where to go to get that news. The MSM paid little attention to the Tea Parties when they were occurring around the country and what little reporting it provided was anything but "fair and balanced." As many recall, it was members of the MSM who ridiculed those who attended the Tea Parties and dismissed them as redneck racists. That being the case, it's disingenous for members of the MSM to pretend to be seriously interested in the Tea Party Convention and complain about not being allowed to report on it.
I say give them a C-Span camera link for one hour – like for the HealthCare debates. Fair is fair.
I'd say let them in but only give them access to people who know how to stay on message…just like the Obama socialists did for his campaign.
The tea partiers at this time are simply a group of like-minded people convening to, I would imagine, see what the next step is,in holding the WH & Congress to live up to their oath of defending the Constitution. They have no obligation to open their meetings to the press. And where was the press in DC when hundreds of thousands of Americans took the time travel to the Capitol to make their voices heard BECAUSE THE MEDIA IS NOT DOING ITS JOB?!
Feed them press releases, seasoned to keep them in the dark, like the gobble-D-goop they try to feed us about their back ally friends!!!!!!!
Ah! the liberal media does not like to be out "FOXED" , they losers any way, they can't report what is right at all!
GO PALIN!! GO FOX!!
Ephesians 6:12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
And that about wraps it up! Keep smiling 'cause the TEA Party movement will demonstrate the success of its values at the ballot box. And we really don't need the "adoring and objective assistance" of the MSM and its minions to ensure our transparency.
Heh. I say there's nothing like shutting them out to get more air-time and chatter out of the MSM than ever could be realized with sensible policy and successful governance of resources. Another brilliant tactic by the Tea Parties.
If there's one thing the D.C. and Media elites understand it's discriminating censorship of those with whom they disagree. That's why they're incredulous at being left out.
I hope they get used to it.
IT'S amazing how the only things the moon-bats know about Fox,Glenn,or Rush is what they read on blogs or the Huff-n-Puff post.(Peanut is a good dog) the formula they use (without knowing) if something is biased is if they point out stupid or corrupt politicians who they love……Fox can bash the GOP,then NoBama and all they will see is the hit on the chosen one………..they must have some rule that says you don't even think about questioning Nancy ,Harry, or Murtha……………..if you do……………your the LACKIE OF THE GOP
Screw the lamestream media. I hope the next conservative president bans them from the white house press room. Fight the liberals using thier own tactics. Maybe they will get the message.
Let em in !
I agree with Califpatriot – "The tea partiers at this time are simply a group of like-minded people"
There is no comparison between this convention and what is going on in Congress and the White House behind closed doors. There is nothing being done at the Tea Party Convention that will impose new laws and taxes on all Americans.
So far this is simply a time and place for those like minded people to gather and charge their batteries with new and innovative ideas that will hopefully result in later actions that will be very public, and that will also begin the reversal process of regaining America's unique form of government as it was originally intended.
When media matters allows Sean Hannity to sit in on their strategy meetings, then and only then can anyone declare anything is being done unfairly.
Who is this bald headed idiot? Making judgements with no facts!!! Typical lib!!!
Are you forgetting that Obama made the press pay for access on election night? Maybe we can ask Obama for a sample of rates and see how many of the media pony up for the access.
Regarding Media Matters article about Palin, the tea party and msm.
At least we aren't sitting there licking and scratching our jewels like the flea baggers.
I am the person who confronted the CNN reporter, Susan Roesgen, at the Chicago Tea Party Rally on April 15th. I am pictured above at the top of your post. I just want to say that I think all media should be let in to cover the event, even if it is a private function. We should not be afraid of the media, like they are afraid of us. But we should be ready to confront them, call them out on biased stories, and keep pressing our point of view. The liberals are for censorship. We are not. We should want all points of view expressed. If they twist the facts we can expose them for it. I did, and it worked for our cause.
Kathy Barkulis-Smart Girl Politics
*Now* the MSM is all of the sudden interested in covering the Tea Parties. Where have they been before now? They still don't get it that FOXNews only picked up on the story only after it became a legitimate story worth attention. I heard about the Tea Parties at least 2 months before Fox started their coverage.
To my knowledge (there may be more not as publicized) Jake Tapper is one of the few in the MSM that stood up & said something when the WH tried to shut out FoxNews. The logic of some of these people is beyond me.
Rule #4: “Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules.”
~~ Saul Alinsky, Rules For Radicals (1971)
I say let them in. Every single organization could send a representative, as long as their Organization has never mis-reported the movement as Tea Baggers. If their org has used the term, then tell them that they are too dumb to get the story right anyway. It's a double win … keeps them ALL out, and sends a message about journalistic integrity.
I fully agree – this is not one I was happy to hear (although I do understand the temptation).
BigDadio has it right, w/ the exception of FOX, it's been the undermedia that has supported the movement, people like Andrew, Scott, and Liz.
I've read all the comments and replies here. I'm 100% with not letting them in. State Run MSM has had more than a fair chance to report on the movement and it's been an Epic Fail for them. For God's sake, the Tea Party movement was one of the top 10 stories missed by the MSM in 2009. Right up there with Van Jones, ACORN and Jennings the Safe School Czar.
No, they didn't report on the movement, they didn't want to report the story. They ridiculed, using the most REPULSIVE terms they could get away with on national TV. They don't want access to the convention so they can report on it now, they want more ammunition and it would be foolish to just hand it to them. They would open up their segments by rolling their eyes and with a heavy sigh complain that they were "forced" to go and cover the convention…they would begin their reports by heaping scorn on the fact that they were there at all in the first place!
Their rule book says to lampoon the enemy with ridicule and do it on a personal level-sneer and jeer at the person, not the cause- and that is exactly what they would do. Our rule book should be "We win, you lose" and that means fighting to win, not appease.
Besides, they are no longer legitimate sources of reporting. They're completely in the tank for the Progressive agenda. They have nothing but malice and animus to offer us, while they offer Hamas, Ahmadinejad, Chavez and the likes a forum to spew hatred.
Excluding them up front sends a message. They are on the wrong side of history and we won't be patsies for them.
I think they should invite all the media and then film them and interview the reporters. We have the internet now. We don't have to wait for them to put things on the news at 11.
TRUSTING THOSE ELECTED
The first element of trust is honor, and with that, closely attached, is courage. It takes courage to be honorable. That is what we expect of someone we can trust. As to elected people, trust involves taking an oath to uphold the Constitution and to defend our country and its people, then to have the courage to honor the pledge throughout his or her tenure in office. So many go to Washington, D.C., as well as state and local governments, and take that oath to defend our laws and our way of life, and in the minutes after taking the oath, are making deals to improve their personal wealth and power. We have seen so much of this since the turn of the century, particularly with the occupants of the White House as to their pledges in their campaigns. We had trustworthy people in the beginning, such as George Washington, Ben Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and a host of others. Now, we do not expect that anymore. We expect our government to function like the Sopranos. Claysamerica.com
Because campaign promises are made, the foolish rubes brlieve them, then told to go to Haiti…
I gotta love somebody who can be apt and hilarious at the same time.
If MSM repeatedly and pointedly referred to me using some highly offensive derogatory sexual slang term, and occasionally as terrorists, I would do far worse than simply keep them out of my little get together.
Good job deflating that gasbag.
Five million to DC on April 15, 2010!
[...] MEDIA HYPOCRISY MATTERS FOR AMERICA. [...]
I wonder if any tea party officials promised transparency….kinda doubt it.
Pro and college sports teams do this all the time….this is a private choice. And I will be happy to watch it on Fox.
The MSM are bent on destroying "tea baggers." No good can come from their attendance and letting them know that we recognize the fact of their bad faith and act upon that knowledge is the beginning of a different relationship. The same media ivies who suck up to foreign dictators want to put down the despised tea bagger rabble at home. I support their exclusion 100%. Why let people with no respect for us roam around to tell stories intended to marginalize us? It is a forceful statement to the country when we show by action that we judge that the MSM are so professionally benighted that they cannot be dealt with. It undermines their legitimacy with whatever idiots still think they're slightly legitimate. Let's not cooperate with their efforts to validate themselves. They're not valid. They're not legitimate opinion makers.
I say keep the MAGGOTS OUT. They have done everything possible to demean the Tea Party movement for a year and have called the Tea Party Patriots the most derogatory names. Let them twist in the wind,
The inter-party hostility on the Web is palpable, especially among party hacks. Are we gathering speed toward another civil war?
