America’s Drone War In Yemen: Al-Jazeera’s Take
by Andrew MarcusThis fascinating news segment produced by al-Jazeera (aka Jihad TV) highlights how the US drone war in Yemen has inspired a renewed front in the Jihad against America.
This report is interesting because even as it parrots the Jihad narrative, it provides more in depth background information and perspective on American, Saudi, and Iranian involvement in Yemen than anything we have seen from just about any US “news” outlet.
What a sad comment on the state of US/Western media, that “Jihad TV” is a better source of information pertinent to this aspect of the world war we are engaged in.
Pay special attention to the discussion that unfolds in the video above, regarding the common interests between Sunni radicals and Shia radicals, who both want to topple the Saudi Royal Family. One implication is that what is really transpiring here is a proxy war between the Saudis and the Iranians.
The larger implication is that Yemen is where Sunni radicals and Shia radicals work together against the Saudi Royals and Americans.
Does the Yemeni front of the Jihad wars represent the key to understanding the links between Iran and al-Qaeda? It depends on who you ask, but it sure is beginning to look that way.
The war in Yemen also reveals at least one massive hypocrisy on the Left. For all of their talk about the problem with America being that we do business with evil dictatorships around the world, Democrat controlled America sure does appear to be working side by side with the Saudis to fight on their behalf against a Sunni-Shia Jihad alliance/insurgency. Or, perhaps that’s why the President of the United States shouldn’t be seen bowing to the Saudi King. It makes it that much harder to argue that America isn’t doing the king’s bidding in Yemen.
In reality, we think this all mostly falls under “the enemy of my enemy is my friend.” In this case, Sunni and Shia terrorists operate as friends (al-Qaeda) against their enemies in the Saudi Royal Family and America, while America operates as friends with Saudi royal family against the Sunni-Shia al-Qaeda factions.
And for all of those Lefties out there who insist that the Sunni and Shia can never work together because they hate each other so much, your theory appears to die with al-Qaeda in Yemen.

well, at least now we know why Obama bowed to the floor for the king!!!
I first learned not to trust the media here in the USA in 1978 at the tender age of 23. My first trip overseas, to Saudi Arabia for work, exposed me to foreign media. I was amazed at the stories I read that were never covered here. I had been a liberal fresh out of college at the time. That all changed when while on vacation to Thailand I saw first hand the results of our having bailed on Viet Nam. Teddy Kennedy and his 'quagmire' ilk allowed the Khmer Rouge to perpetrate a bigger holocaust than Hitler even dreamed. To this day the libs have never owned up to that problem, they continue to harp on the innocent victims of the US forces. The US Military is the only force that stands between corrupt leaders and their own people (Saddam Hussein). Yet all they get is derisive treatment at home in the US at the hands of the 'peace loving' libs. I wish the libs would just take one trip to a third world country with open eyes, their world view might change as mine had.
great story….makes sense now… we seem to be just another puppet for Saudi Arabia, and tell me, who just got the multi billion dollar contract to build four nuclear power plants in Suadi Arabia?? oh yeah, South Korea out bid us…..seems like all our sucking up ain't working boys……let the South Koreans fight their battles, and we should pull out now…..protect our home front and close the borders.
PS: my work in Saudi Arabia was with their MODA (Ministry of Defense and Aviation) and my location was the Asir province, Straddling the Saudi / Yemen border. 7 years living and working alongside the local population engendered no repsect for the Saudis or the Yemeni.

Wait, so they want to topple a MONARCHY and we are siding with the monarchs? Only goes to show how far off the reservation we have wandered as a nation. We are opposing republics like Iran and supporting monarchies and oppressive Apartheid regimes like Israel.
Get a clue!! Iran is no more a republic than the democrats are honest and 'transparent'
They are more of a Republic than the DICTATOR we imposed on them via Operation Ajax. You speak of consequences – think of the consequences of that action.
How are the drones we are using any less than terrorism? Do you expect these people to lay down and die? What would YOU do?
Why is it the same people who want to stir up hornets nests also act like stopping immigration and travel are incomprehensible. You can't have both. We were attacked by immigrants on 9/11 yet nothing serious was done about legal and even ILLEGAL immigration???? Why do we even have an h1b program at all with soaring unemployment? No, things aren't adding up. You guys better get off your "rah rah" sessions for big government (funny thing for "conservatives" huh – but war is the first choice when a government wants to expand) and realize the corruption that is in place.
Let's see, there is a country that has invaded land….that has WMDs….refuses to sign the NNPT and refuses inspections….that has attacked us on many occasions….and is bribing our politicians. Can you guess who it is? They receive billions of US tax dollars in aid even though we are running large deficits. Give you a hint – they are a bunch of religious wackos that even have a religious symbol on their flag! Oh, and their country was founded on terrorism like the King David Hotel bombing and groups like the Irgun and the Stern gang.
I make no excuses for the arrogance and stupidity of our government and their historical blunders, but I like to deal with the here and now. Iran and their Mullahs make their former regimes look timid and kind. The UN is the one who likes to perpetuate open sores and are also responsible for the existence of Israel, Korea, Sudan, Ethiopia,,,,,
An interesting story, but the larger point is how it exposes the govt propaganda machine that is mainstream liberal media in the US. On a daily basis I speak to friends, family, coworkers about current events and I am always shocked at just how clueless they really are about the happenings in the world. They are quite familiar with the latest Tiger Woods scandal however. It is the responsibility of each American to seek out the truth. We have this freedom in the US, and yet we passively accept whatever we are told on the 6:00 news as the gospel. Wake up America, it's not all rainbows and butterflies.
Oh I get it, you hate jews! That explains alot.
And Obama and Clinton are saints. Let me remind you that it was and is they who were and are also using the drones and cruise missles.
Storykeeper excellent post. Just how many behind the scenes murders was Teddy Kennedy responsible for? I was there and we did not lose the Vietnam War, we were sold out by liberals like Kennedy, Kerry and Chronkite. Liberalism is a disease.
When Al-Qadea sent suicide bombers to blow up their Generals in pakistan this was Iran's retaliation to run operations in yemen. When Iran announced they would blind their enemies this was their implication was. What the US should do is let the Iranians to continue to kill Al Qadea close to their root and continue to support Irans internal peaceful opposition.
Last refuge of a scoundrel. You lost the argument.
Desperately you try to create straw men. You are a riot. Clinton and Obama are more on your side than mine. You all want big government – you just get duped by different rationalizations for it. BTW, funny how you self-described "conservatives" here say how horrible government intervention is in our lives….but you expect others to accept it to the point of dropping bombs on people and do nothing in response. You think they like our government in their lives?
Iran a republic?!?!?!? Ha ha – Dhasselhoff you just go too far with the comedy.
Stupidity and blunders? They would love to have you believe that rather than evil intentions.
Well Al Queda published it goals in 2000 and they are just executing its plan on it time table they said they would. We are now at the start of Phase 4.
The Fourth Phase Between 2010 and 2013, al-Qaida will aim to bring about the collapse of the hated Arabic governments. The estimate is that "the creeping loss of the regimes' power will lead to a steady growth in strength within al-Qaida." At the same time attacks will be carried out against oil suppliers and the US economy will be targeted using cyber terrorism.
I am really growing to hate them all……
I hope you realize you're mentally ill.
Your posts scare the sh*t out of me. They always stick to the plan and we have OB and Janet "Hoof in Mouth Disease" Napolitano to protect us. Oh and I am sure that KSM trial in NYC will not be an excuse for some massive attack within the timetable either……
But the parasitic war profitters can't make as much money with non-interventionism – who cares how many American lives they destroy in the process. Like in WWII we side with the most evil country in the world only to be shocked….SHOCKED to realize they are our enemy soon after. Should have just stayed out of it but do some homework – take a gander some time about how much money was pilfered from the American PEOPLE for the "Cold War" threat. Read Orwell, he was spot on.
My view of the left over the years has changed from bare tolerance to outright hate, they are a cancer on a free society, they constantly maneuver for their "Mao" moment of seizing absolute power all the while preaching love, peace and freedom, while planning enslavement and murder.
They are the barbarians at the gate and they need to be stopped.
You mean electing Carter? I agree
Teddy and John F'ing Kerry have done more to undermine US efforts to defeat our enemies. In the time of Ronald Teddy actually conspired with the soviets to try and stop RR's pressure. John F'ing Kerry was working with the North Vietnamese in Paris to frustrate negotiations. Had we not listend to Chronkite at the time of the TET offensive we would have prevailed. It was dems in congress led by Teddy of the Chapaquidick who prevented our forces from pursuing the enemy where they were. You cannot fight a war in which you follow rules and the enemy does not. You fight wars to WIN. The UN on the other hand wants wars to be stalemated wherein only the civilians suffer. Libs want more and more foreign aid to despotic nations to 'help the needy' when it only goes into the pockets of their oppressors. When will the libs ever figure out that acts of kindness are seen as signs of weakness by our enemies.
Auschwitz is this guys Disneyland
No need to be scared, just be prepared. Fear is the strategy of terrorist and this administration. Have supplies stored for the family, it does not cost much. You should have supplies for terrorist reason or for natural disaster. 50 lbs of brown rice and other large non perishables sure goes along ways, think Costco size. 200 gals of drinking water stored in barrels outside and smaller containers inside the house.
Fear is what this administration wants you to feel. Fear is what terrorist want you to feel. Don't give into fear instead channel it into being prepared and that will help take away the fear.
Snip "What would YOU do?"
I would start by not planning the massive death of innocent civilians to enforce my religious views on the world, I would probably think twice about a religion that requires me to completely conquer the world with the sword, but that's just me I guess.
If I did the above I would probably expect an ass whipping instead of a tongue lashing, but again I am sane, you are not.
In your world it seems that any use of force is terrorism but that’s really not the definition of that term, feel free to keep using it if you like but it doesn’t make your case any stronger.
By the way, there is a new thing called a paragraph, try using a few of them. It won't' make your insane rants any clearer, but it will make them a bit more readable.
Everybody above is right and everybody above is wrong. This world belongs to Lucifer, who has deceived the whole world, including Christians and, he will continue to deceive this world until he is replaced by the rightful Savior, which will not be Lucifer, as many will soon come to realize!
Unless you are a Catholic, do not tell me about "Jesus" who was invented under the order of the Pope in 1520 by Petrus Galavinus in the Vatican to honor the Greek highest deity Zeus! That's actual history!
PNAC stated its goals in 1997 including a new American "Pearl Harbor" to implement its goals. Al Qaeda was a creation of the CIA.
The object is to make you scared to surrender your money and your liberty. It is called "terrorism" and it is coming from your government.
This administration is little different from the last – both supporting endless war for the end goal of bankrupting the US and implementing global government via "Free Trade" and uncontrolled immigration.
More true than you realize.
Snip "In your world it seems that any use of force is terrorism"
It seems in your world, using terror to advance political goals is either terrorism or not depending on whether you agree with the goals. That's hypocrisy.
HA HA HA, oh your serious?
My lord man, we have a lot of nuts come trolling by but so far you are the nuttiest fruit cake I have seen so far.
I imagine the reason a complicit media is not covering the above situation is the same reason that they cover up a lot of other things happening under Obama, it might make him "look" hypocritical to his base, providing cover for the One is all they do these days.
The things that terrorist fear most are the drone strikes and the midnight raids but word has it that Obama wants badly to stop or reduce both of those operations, after all they are effective and we can't have that nasty "Victory" mentality running amok, much better for everyone to win and call it a draw. He either plans to continue and would rather not have that broadcast, or wants to terminate and not have an cause associated with an action.
Your writing is great! I never knew that about the Saudi air force!
Please point that out in the above post, else try again
Dropping bombs on people wins wars dickweed, you stupid libs would be the first ones killed by these fun loveing mooslem towlhead bastards, that you would so quickly embrace. Thats right they hate you more than me. Cause I would at least fight them.
I see your really im-a-dinner-jacket. That clears it up.
Thanks. Glad I still have an old Armalite 180 and .357. Things may get crazy.
War? What war? Congress has not declared any war and no nation has attacked us.
China's a Republic, too. Says so right there: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/People's_Republ...
Not to mention Israel spies on us….YEAH!!!! Someone had to come out and say it.
If only that was all they did! Reference the 5 Israelis who were spotted jumping for joy (mission accomplished!) while filming the WTC collapse. They were arrested by the FBI and even admitted to doing it on Israeli TV so there is no sense denying it.
Sure things may get crazy. That is why you get prepared and stay away from the crazies. You don't have to be amongst the crazies because you have supplies. Where things get crazy is where the government is handing out food and water and large crowds. People won't be breaking into homes because they know to many people have guns. Place a paper sign on your doors saying "Smith and Wesson live here have a nice day"
(heheheh) Basic survivalism. Some of the people I work with have been irritated at my lack of reaction to various "emergencies" or "disasters" that had them running in circles.
Neither emergencies nor disasters are problems if a person is prepared. With preparations both are, at worst, high priority tasks to be dealt with. (How much of an emergency is a kitchen fire if you have an extinguisher at hand and catch the fire before it takes off? Same idea.)
Most survival preparation is in the form I call "situational survivalism". That is a short term preparation for a specific problem, like a hurricane warning or snow storm. Every year, the same people rush to the store to buy what they should already have in storage, left over from last year's whatever. The problem here is the "cried wolf" syndrome. Each reaction is less until it is "no reaction".
(cont)
Then there's those who move into the area and don't find out what the regularly recurring "emergencies" are, or do find out and don't act.
Basic long term survivalism is a sort of (very inexpensive) diversified investment or insurance. The costs of what most people really need for survival are minimal, you don't have to buy everything in the Cabala's or Lehman's catalog, and most of the basics can be used for most possible emergencies.
Just keep the supplies up to date.
I dunno, that Dhasselhoff nutjob has been posting some fevered nonsense. I'd say he's the king of lunacy right now
"The war in Yemen also reveals at least one massive hypocrisy on the Left. Boy, for all of the things that "appear" to be a some way or another as described in this article, shoot, it "appears" that you may have some kind of decent point.
But I doubt it.
The left is not a monolithic structure- like any coalition of people there's all kinds. And the criticism that we do business with evil dictators, well that criticism is from the blogosphere. Our politicians on the left still take money from those same business that do business with the Saudis, and (make no mistake) our politicians Obama and Bush alike still make nice way too much with the Saudi royalty.
We should remember that our politicians are always just that, politicians, and our democratic choices represent the lesser of evils. And that's true for "the Left" too. Maybe we too will will throw our designated party under a bus the way the Conservatives have done to Republicans.
Lets not forget how nice-nice Bush and the Royal Saudis have been. Or doesn't it "appear" that way to you?
Hoisted by your own petard – thanks for bringing that up.

Dhasselhoff you are a order of fries short of a happy meal.
OIL
Why didn't you mention you were a truther earlier. That explains everything. You forgot to mention the memo that went out to the Jews who worked at the WTC to show up late for work on 9/11.
I agree the House of Saud needs to go down, but not simply to be replaced by another set of moneyed barbarians.
We're nice to the Saudis because they hold a lot of sway in OPEC. We need sensible businessmen on our side when OPEC meets to 'adjust' the market. They've been pretty good, so-far.
The decision to use Mid East oil instead of our own has been a very expensive one.
I think *her* main priority will be security and she's already talking about how things should be and PC be damned.
Why didn't you mention you were a truther earlier. That explains everything. You forgot to mention the memo that went out to the Jews who worked at the WTC to show up late for work on 9/11.
They ( all politicians ) are totally useless. Game players. The big global chess game. This country needs a leader with moral convictions who will refuse to play the elitist game. He needs to come out and say "this is how it is and how it will be". Period. He also needs good men and women backing him.
His main priority should be the people of this country, not pandering to illegals or letting the Jihadists train on our own soil. Too much political correctness will be the demise of this great United States. Leave the political correctness to an Ann Landers column and to Hollywood parties.
This country was once pure Angus beef. Now it's a mish mash of chicken, pork and tofu on one plate. Tell the people this: if you don't like our laws, leave. If you don' t want to speak english: leave. If you don't salute our great flag: leave for better pastures. This applies to the userper president and his NWO democRATS also. Time to really fight for the Constitution and get rid of this disease carrying vermin.
Hey moron I was born in Iran and lived there till I was 10. Fortunately, my parents got out of there before the Mullah’s took over and now I live very happily here. You're comment is ignorant and betrays the young people fighting and dying in the streets of Iran.
If you think Iran is a Republic and Israel is an "oppressive Apartheid regime" you are dumber then dumb. This is why I hate liberals so much they have no idea how to distinguish between right and wrong, good and evil and just think speaking nicely to evil will make it go away. I have an idea lets drop you in Iran and Israel and see which one you like better. Stop listening to Carter moron. Most of the world already has.
I second that. I would also void all Visa's and deny any entry to ALL Muslims or persons of any nationality who defends, hides, supports the Muslim terrorists.
If you disagree, you are probably a racist!!!
The first military battle with AL Qaeda took place in Somalia, and Clinton decided to run away.
Afhganistan and Iraq were good starts but neither are the endgame. Pakistan isn't either. Those three examples have been set to prove that military engagements of various degrees are worthwhile in the long run.
Yemen and Somalia will be open warfare battlefields before it is all over with. Avoiding this reality only serves to lengthen this war on terrorism.
What bullshit! The Mullahs are murderous tyrants orders of magnitude worse than the poor old Shah (who was restored to power by the Iranian Army, with only a token assist by Kermit Rossevelt's CIA clowns). Khomeini in his first year executed 100x more Iranians than SAVAK ever killed.
PS: Mossadegh was a dictator.
"How are the drones we are using any less than terrorism?"
Um, because they are overt acts by a uniformed military directed at hostile combatants? Or am I wasting keystrokes on a submoron?
Do you believe that terrorists will ever go away? I don't, you will always have radical people like islamic terrorists or neo nazis.
We (United States) can invade Yemen and Somalia but it won't end anything. Like throwing trillions to entitlement programs to end poverty, or trillions to education to make kids smarter, it won't make anything better.
The terrorists want us to invade, it promotes their cause to certain people and costs us huge money.
I agree with pulling out of South Korea. They are much wealthier and larger than North Korea and can defend themselves fine against North Korea.
No difference between Bush and Obama on foreign policy, in rhetoric only.
Is it hard to imagine that some people wouldn't want occupied by our federal government? Hell I don't like what they do to the American people rammin crap like bailouts down our throat and robbing the people that produce.
So it's not hard to imagine that other countries wouldn't like the United States rammed down their country. It's like throwin welfare at poor people to solve poverty, you won't "win" over terrorists by throwin more bombs and money at the problem.
We as the United States kill plenty of innocent civilians. You can keep throwin money and bombs at the problem but it is as bad as government throwin welfare at the poor to solve poverty.
The issue isn't about terrorists taking over the world or enforcing Islam on the masses, it won't happen (they kill each other like black on black gangs), but rather the effectiveness of occupying others countries etc. (the bush-obama doctrine) and how to better bring about peace and trade.
We do exactly what Bin Laden wants us to do, spend trillions and help promote his cause to certain radicals.
We are running out money, i'm not sure we could afford to invade Iran and Yemmin without more money and a draft. A draft might get more peoples attention. I did forget, the federal reserve can just fire up the printing presses to fund the wars, and tax us indirectly through inflation of the dollar.
At any rate, I agree that our foreign policy changes like the wind. One minute we fund the Taliban, the next we fund Afghan police and military to destroy the Taliban. Hmm?
democrats honest and transparent = false
Iran a republic = true
Iran does have elections by the people and a constitution.
Iran does have a constitution and elections by the people.
And while you are laughing at the comedy of that statement, i remind you of the comedy of a government that rams healthcare down our throats, rams bailouts down the producers of this countries throats, rams a monopolized education system down your throat, rams social security down your throat, on and on and on. Now that is democracy.
It has nothing to do with being liberal or conservative. We can be supportive of a pro democracy movement in Iran but that doesn't mean we are obligated to send trillions to fund the cause and maybe invade it and appoint somebody that fits our model of idealism better. We have tried that anyway and it doesn't work very well.
I remind you that the former Soviet Union dissolved because the people wanted something different.
Snip "…not planning the massive death of innocent civilians"
Dont misqoute me Truther.
I didn't quote anything.
I will go slowly
When you said "We as the United States kill plenty of innocent civilians" in RESPONSE to my "I would start by not PLANNING the MASSIVE death of innocent civilians" you did mis-quote me
You implied I made the first statement when in fact I made the second, or are you just injecting random posts into the stream?
Like I said I didn't quote anything. You can't avoid civilian deaths when you run around countries dromping bombs. It's collateral damage as some say.
And this is one Angus Beef raising female that supports "her" completely…let the profiling begin!
Fact check–actually the South Koreans will be building the reactors for the United Arab Emirates. If you have ever been to UAE and Saudi, you will know they are like 'chalk and cheese' as the Brits say.
before you recieve a darwin award, pull head from ass. oppressive apartheid regimes– well hippie that boat sailed along time ago with south africa. why weren't you in jail protesting with mandela. and now that mandela is in charge, how is affirmative action working out for that country? seems to me, the same old race hatters in charge have only changed skin color. sort of like the same results as what would happen to detroit if we let liberals and union goons run the whole damn city. well "bright eyes" ,toppling a monarchy might bring about another pol pot and a couple of million killed and the rest a bunch of terrorists added to the world supply, but let us not worry our pretty heads about that as long as we can chant pretty slogans half a world away and go home to government provided jobs, housing, meals, electricity, and transportation–better known to you as mommy and daddy. if you weren't so dumb enough to vote for obama, america might have still stood as a beacon for liberty and prosperity that could influence the actual toppling off a despotic, evil regime that would be good for the people. if you reelect obama and these sham democrats, you better be more concerned for americans about fighting off an oppressive apartheid monarchy at home.
welcome to the war at home, your stupidity just got you drafted.
wow, i totally agree with everything you said radman. liberals end up in a pretzel trying to justify their twisted world view.
How can you expect them to stop when we keep perpetuating the problem as badly as they do? It doesn't work.
Two wrongs don't make a right! I understand your wanting to destroy people that do our country harm but I don't understand how you aren't critical of the methods our government has employed.
Your a complete fool, but then your a truther so what a suprise.
There will always be radical Islamists- but we can reduce them to an impotent fringe like the neo-Nazis are. Which, come to think of it, we accomplished by pounding the original Nazis' country into rubble, and hanging the bosses.
I don't understand your position.
"I don't understand…"
First honest thing you have said
Thinking man you can't be against massive civilian deaths and enforcing views on the world (your opinion of Islam), and at the same time support our current administrations foreign policy which creates massive civilian deaths and enforcement of views. That's nothing more than doublespeak.
That's like a democrat wanting children to have better education but not allowing vouchers to go to private schools.
1. Please point to our current adminstations policy of pursuing massive civilian deaths.
2. Please point to my support of a policy of pursuing massive civilian deaths.
Your at it again Dussel, making groundless claims and responding to statements that were never made.
Still not tired of getting walked back, lets party fool.
1. Occupation of Iraq and Afghanastan has caused millions of civilian deaths.
2. You support number 1.
3. See number 1.
4. Massive = a lot or many
I'm trying to understand how you go along with the Bush Obama Doctrine? I fail to see what is good about it and your not explaining why it is a good foreign policy.
Is this Dick Cheney?
Let me be precise so you can perhaps comprehend the issue at hand
The original commenter had a point with question, I answered that point, you attempted to rebut a point I NEVER made, which is a simpletons debating tactic. To be specific I did not say that we have never killed a civilian which is what you keep going on about
Secondarily my comment was directed at your fellow truthers comment, which was what should they do to stop us from killing them and or interfering with their little jihad, yours was a grand straw man attempt at shifting the argument away from that to the supposed evils of the united states.
Epic fail, you truthers really are not very talented at this.
