Why Doesn’t #OccupyWallSt Protest Facebook, Google, Or YouTube?

In January of 2011, Facebook was valued at $50 Billion dollars.
In February of 2011, Twitter was valued at $10 Billion.
In March of 2011, YouTube was valued at $36 Billion and Google was valued at $190 Billion.
None of these companies would exist without capitalism, but the anti-capitalist leftists currently occupying Wall Street will never, ever protest these companies. They’re even organizing their protests through their websites.
Why is the left’s hatred of capitalism so selective? Google is a publicly traded corporation; its executives feed off the so-called profiteering of Wall Street just as deliberately as Goldman Sachs or any of their other boogeyman du jour. And if we’re talking how these corporations make profits, why doesn’t the left get asbent out of shape over Google and Facebook selling their personal information to marketers as they do with banks charging interest on loans?
Have you noticed that all of the anti-capitalism protesters seem to have cell phones, computers, video cameras and TV’s? How would these products exist and be available at an affordable price for the average person without capitalism?
Consider the ultimate irony of this scenario:
A person learns about an anti-capitalism protest on Twitter, attends the protest, captures a video on his personal cell phone, turns on the laptop computer he bought at Best Buy, logs in to Google, uploads his video to YouTube and then posts it on Facebook.
By the time this “protester” is getting thumbs up from his comrades on Facebook, he has participated in multiple transactions purely thanks to the excesses of capitalism.
How many of these anti-capitalist protesters would be willing to throw their iPhones into the Hudson River? How many of them will permanently shut down their Facebook and YouTube accounts in protest? None of them will, because ultimately, capitalism is fine with them as long as it serves their purposes.
They don’t hate capitalism or wealth; they just want the government to take wealth from others and give to them so they don’t have to go through the normal channels that those individuals with wealth went through — practical higher education, working above and beyond their peers, saving, investment, risk, etc.
In addition to their selective corporation hatred, the proponents of this movement voted overwhelmingly for Obama, the one person they will never blame for destroying their economic opportunities.
Yet they fail to note that Obama got more campaign cash from Wall Street than any other candidate in 2008.
They ignore the fact that Goldman Sachs was the top donor to the Obama 2008 campaign.
“Occupy Wall Street” is the ultimate expression of liberal hypocrisy. They are fooling no one but themselves.

Everything they have, is a product of CAPITALISM!!! There is a page on Facebook trying to get a crowd in Jacksonville, Florida TODAY…it's been pouring rain ALL NIGHT!!! Hope it pours all day…those people need to bathe!!! I'm pretty sure that ALL of them own a television, cell phone, have cable, etc…..probably thanks to their parents…and yes thanks to Capitalism!!

The answer is simple, again and again, we see, it is all about where you donate your money and how you vote. Another prime example is the anti- war movement. Nary a negative word concerning what was referred to as the US's imperialistic policies since Obama took over and has continued and even ramped up what they refer to as "imperialism".
So, then, does Google represent "restrained" capitalism? If so, restrained by whom or what? And how would these a$$clowns know the difference? Come to think of it, how would YOU know the difference?
Capitalism is restrained by:
Legitimate interference from the government (rare);
Illegitimate interference from the government; and/or,
Competition doing it better, faster, cheaper (pick your comparative term) than the restrainee.

I really don't understand WHAT they are protesting? Why are they attacking companies that provide jobs? Unemployment is the problem! NOT companies and businesses that can employ people.

Bailouts have nothing to do with capitalism! Google and Facebook haven't been bailed out, wall street bankers have. The bailouts were a repugnant shredding of the constitution that should have had all of us occupying wall street back in 2008.

Where is the unrestrained capitalism? Last time I checked that doesn't exist in this country and has not for over a hundred years, since the dawning of the progressive era.
Who gave the bankers the excess credit via artificially low interest rates so they could leverage the money, seeing it explode into the housing market and capital goods sector, leading to a bubble economy and inevitable crash? Certainly not a free market.
Who bailed out the banks rather than let them liquidate like they should have? Not the free market.
What is the entity that exists solely to provide banks with money when they get in trouble, creating an environment of Moral Hazard? Not a free market entity.
Who endlessly intervenes in the healthcare markets, restricting market forces and competition and subsidizing millions of basic treatments formerly paid out of pocket, both of which lead to skyrocketing costs and misery for millions? Not the free market.
Who has endlessly tried to manipulate the recovery, only leading to predictable stagnation and misery? Not the unrestrained market.
That's the problem, these people do not even understand what they are protesting. They are protesting against something that doesn't even exist. They are too lazy to dig deeper and really understand what is going on. They don't even try to understand what they protest against. If they did, they would realize it is the entity they want to give more power that is screwing them.
That comment is soaked, nay, imbued, with awesomeness.
Its called Commodity fetishism, False consciousness in which the "worker" and the "producer" while the same (workers produce products and get a wage) these protesters think they are opposed to each other.
So they "protest" against the very institutions that satisfy their desires for goods and services.

This Occupy Wall Street is a prime example of the intellectually self-absorption of the left. With the exception of blue collar liberals, how many libs do you know who admit to being of average intelligence? In my little world, not one. ALL claim to be of superior intellect and many times, superior education.
These characters, who use freely the fruits of capitalism, only see that the fruits are free, to THEMSELVES. Twitter, google, et al, to them, are run by highly intelligent types who know that such fruits are free and must be free. If you were to ask these people, WHAT kind of job should they be "given," and HOW much they should be GIVEN for these fantasy jobs, they will look at you blankly. Offer them say, a nice landscaping job, where they ride on a mower, sometimes use a weed whacker and make a respectable $36,000 a year, I am sure they would recoil in horror, "WHAT? Not ME!" I know a man, world traveled, speaks 5 languages, teaches one, and when asked, at age 27, while working on his second PhD, "What do you do for a living," he answered, "Nothing, I'm educated." I think THAT sums up the self-absorbed mindset of those twittering, google-eyed, characters clogging up traffic on Wall Street.
Oh, and about "social justice," these people claim we must achieve, I say, "um, excuuuse me? We're the ONLY First World country that has set aside race, and elected a Black guy to the highest position in the world, and it ain't so far fetched to think, we may have another Black guy. What MORE do you people WANT?"

If you can find an example of unrestrained capitalism anywhere in the world, I'd like to see it. The reality is our economy is so heavily regulated that "unrestrained capitalisim" has nothing to do with it. Heck, the banks were restrained into giving loans to people who couldn't pay them back. Then these fools blame the banks when people lose their homes instead of the legislators that caused it.
Why don't they just emigrate to a country where the gov't gives you a job instead of staying here and trying to screw things up for the rest of us who want to live by the Constitution? I suggest North Korea.

The things that I had to do growing up would put parents in jail today. My parents owned and operated a nursery. From the time that we were old enough to understand that dirt was not a major food group, we helped with the business, potting, weeding, watering and so forth. We didn't even think about it… it was just simply a way of life.
Yes… we were paid for it in the form of an allowance, that taught us the value of our labor, money and taking responsibility for our own successes and failures.
This generation… the generation of the entitled, have been taught exactly the opposite.
So let them set on their azzes with their hands out…. until they figure out that there is no such thing as a free lunch. When their bellies start to rumble… maybe, just maybe the visions of sugar plums will disappear from their dancing little heads. But I won't hold my breath waiting on that day.

Bail outs are what the Tea Party originally galvanized around and opposed. That led to the inevitable conclusion that the government was out of control. The message became liberty, fiscal responsibility and limited government. The problem is NOT unrestrained capitalism, but unrestrained government.

With those degrees one goes to work for government (the best performing section of the economy for 20 years) or they teach (again, a sector of the economy out performing the private sector) or they start some 501(c) scam to get government money for doing something silly. They learn how to get into the "government money stream". I wish I had a polysci degree rather than an engineering and mba degrees. I'd have learned how to fill out grant forms and get through to the pot of government gold.

The Bankers didn't cause the current financial problems we are facing, Congress did this, or I should say a few members of Congress did it. For years there were attempts to rain in Freddie and Sally Mae, but Some Congressman and Senators blocked the effort. And stupid laws passed in the late 1970's that were ground zero for all of this. Why has nobody gone to jail over this? You would think that there would be jail time. Seems to me If you follow the money it would lead not to Republicans or Bankers, but to Democrats in and out of office (when not in office they are at Freddie and Sally) No banker would not do any of this stuff, because banks are in business of making money for there depositors and some thing of a profit for the bank. Congress forced banks into making loans that on there best day they would never do. You will never see Dodd or Frank ever answer for it, makes Maddoff look like a small time piker. Why is he in jail? He didn't do anything, that Dodd and Frank didn't do, they did the same dam thing when you get down to it.

In any case, I'm beginning to see a parallel between OWS and May 68 in France. Both started as student occupation and then expaned to unions and eventually a general strike of workers which essentially shut down French society until the protesters demands were met.

I have two children in college. The elder one has always been a "right" thinker and has chosen recently to be apolitical. He is majoring in Chemistry. The younger one, now a freshman, is attending a community college but I am very worried about the slant of her government class. We got into a discussion the other night about a video the teacher was using to prompt a discussion of the first amendment. Like pnipni I am watching like a hawk what is going on. The good news is that I have had 18 years to lay the foundation so that she understands what it means to be a critical thinker.
Churchill said even Lenin was unhappy with communism but that was then and these fools cannot even imagine such as world really existed as it has all been scrubbed from school books. I think they actually think they are brave like those illiterates in the middle east.
Take away their Apples, Ipods and Iphones and they would scream. Jobs, rest his soul, is the biggest capitalist going with all products manufactured in…China…and pays no corporate taxes. Unrestrained capitalism?
Do you even know how many regulations the U.S. government imposes on business? Corporations (both large and small), small businesses, sole proprietors, etc.
I dare you to open so much as a soda or lemonade stand in your neighborhood without a permit to do so.
Do you realize how many regulations it takes to make the familiar Girl Scout cookies?
Calling them hypocrites would suggest that they have the mental capacity to know that they are protesting against everything they own, wear, use. I really don't believe that they have the capacity to even consider such things. To even think of it isn't possible for them. To realize it after they had thought it would be like the jump from an amoeba instantaneously developing the ability to teleport to the moon.
I'd take them halfway between Florida and Cuba and toss them into the water and tell them to swim to which country they wanted.

You obviously don't see what's going on… This isn't just a bunch of dirty hippies. These are your children (if you have any) and your librarians, teachers, and anyone else that believed in the system they were born into. Times are changing and I know its cliche to say the rich are getting richer but its more then that. There is no honor system anymore. It is more criminal than ever and capitalism is failing just like it was meant to.
Why don't they protest Facebook, Google or YouTube?
Because when they come to power they will control these entities. Until then, they can't afford to have these companies turn against them. Take a look at any tyrannical state and you will see that the state will use whatever it can to stay in power and destroy anything that threatens their power.
Google, the single most evil corporation in existence (and whose motto is "Do no evil"!) helped the Chinese communists by censoring content and fingering dissidents. It left China with great fanfare parading itself as opposed to the tyrannical Chinese regime when in fact they had become unprofitable because the Chinese had stolen Google's technology and created their own search engine over which they had complete control.
Google, Facebook and YouTube have vast amounts of information about individuals that will be used to hunt down and kill potential enemies of the new American regime. Think of every comment you ever made on this blog, think of every Facebook entry you ever made, think of any YouTube video with you face in it and then think of what value this will have to future tyrants.
These protesters are dangerous but not as dangerous as those in government who want the same things as the protesters and will try to use the protests as grounds for more intrusive government.
The Wall Street protesters are the biggest hypocrites, minus Barack Obama in the world. These protesters are whining and protesting about Big Corportations and their profits and CEO's pay and bonus's. Then they turn right around and call their friends to "come on down to the party" using their I-pods, I-Pads and Blackberries. These are the electronic devices that made these very same CEO's rich. What hypocrites! To NOT be labled hypocrites they should bust, stomp and destroy their electronic devices in protest also.

Yes so its probably not a good idea to give gov too much power since governments in the past have butchered 100s of millions of people and has a monopoly on force.

Since 1936 I have fought for wage increases. My father before me fought for wage increases. Now I have a TV, a fridge, a Volkswagen. Yet my whole life has been a drag. The article points out something I have been noticing myself. These protestors speak in general terms that sound good to a group of people, but the minute you start working out the specifics, the whole argument begins to fall apart. Stating that you are against greedy corporations sounds cool, but then you start analyzing everything that corporations create, like this article points out, and you realize that without those corporations, your life would not be as convenient as it now is.
This is proof once again that these protestors fail to utilize any type of critical thinking skills, which is sad to state because a lot of them claim to be students with loads of student debt. I attended a university myself, and the first class I had to take was a class on critical thinking skills followed by each of my classes requiring me to apply those critical thinking skills. No wonder these students are mad. They obviously got a poor education, which is why they have joined the protests.
