Sen. DeMint Taking the Lead on Education Reform In South Carolina
by Adam B. SchaefferSouth Carolina is one of the few states where school choice supporters have been working to pass a great education tax credit program that’s broad-based and well-structured (please excuse me if I sound like a cattle-breeder or wine-taster).
Senator Jim DeMint has been a real champion of choice for SC and the country, and he has a great new video promoting education tax credits (brought to you by South Carolinians for Responsible Government, the guys in the trenches for good policy there).
The lead-in hits it perfectly; school choice is about self government, and public education means an educated public, not government-run schools.
But I’m a sucker for the fiscal stuff. And with the economy and government budgets in the state they’re in, citizens want to know first and foremost whether any new program is going to cost them more money. Jump to 7:30 in the video for a great take on how education tax credits save money.

Ever wonder why the Radical-Sympatheizer in Chief eliminated school choice in DC? it's just another way to keep the "Useful Idiots" ………..useful. Our Post-Racial Marxist in Chief, and not unwittingly, will be responsible for the de-education of those he purports to elevate from poverty. And while those vouchers in fact were successful for a great many minorities our BumblingStumblingAgitator seems just cheeky with keeping them there.

Obama's over reach started a ground swell of American resistance to the progressive agenda, this is but one of many battles. Each battle won is a proof that conservatism works and liberalism is a failure.
The Libs need to spend money with every battle while conservatives rely on truth and common sense.
The Lib's battle plans are unsustainable. They need union dues and other means of financing their battles.
Ohio won and SC will win too.
Our enemy the MSM parrots the idea that the Tea Party is weak and that the Tea Party is alien to independents.

I really knew I liked this guy when Trent Lott (“retired” Republican senator turned lobbyist) said something to the effect, “what are we going to do with a bunch of Jim DeMint’s running around here.” I wonder what revolving door Trent was worried about?
Great work again Senator DeMint, with you there is hope for America, and it starts with education.
An educated and informed public is the left's greatest fear and enemy. If we can wrest public education from the grasping hands of the bureaucrats in DC and return it to the state and local governments that would be huge and welcome. Time to get rid of the Dept of Education and the federal bureaucrats ruining the future of the kids in America.
As you will recall, Trent Lott also referenced "co-opting" Jim DeMint.

I have a real problem with Senators like Demint not doing his job. With all of the things going on the Senate has a lot to worry about. School choice is a state issue not a federal issue.
What's your position on troops in Libya? According to Jane's they are already there. Are we going to be supporting the Rebels with a no fly zone? Who are the Rebels anyway? Pro Democracy or Muslim Brotherhood?

School choice and home schooling is the only way right now to combat the dumbing down of America's youth. These kids are being taught too many democrat socialist ideologies and not enough of America and patriotism. It's time to end their power over our kids. We have to start now because it takes a generation to undo the damage that has been done in allowing the public schools so much power over our kids.
Jim DeMint is a great American. I wish we had 99 more like him in the Senate today.

Education will improve the fastest when parents hold their children to a higher standard of work produced. I used to marvel at 100 dollar Nikes on the feet of a kid that did no homework, passed no test and thought it was ok. You have to look to your own house first to see improvement in your child's education. turn off the cable and internet until they get grades. Do they really need a cell phone?

Or not. Liberalism has brought quite a few good things to america…just as conservatism has.

Sorry, but the conservatives don't hold exclusivity on truth and common sense.

Sure the union dues help, but the unions are more valuable for the labor and communications they provide. Unions overwhelmingly contribute to democrats vs republicans making them an easy target (as no other industry is as unevenly divided). The next closest industry is lawyers / lobbyists who give overwhelmingly to democrats.

I disagree with the blanket statement. In a lot of cases, even in union public schools, the kids do receive a decent education. The issue is large and complex and I would suggest socioeconomics and parental involvement play a larger role in educational success.

I think right to work is a good first step; however, I think unions can and do good things in some cases (such as preventing classroom overcrowding)
Totally agree. A lot of the more impoverished areas suffer from this as the parents aren't as involved and / or aren't around (working multiple jobs, drugs involved, etc.)
That would be fine if the Unions did their job rather then become more of a problem then they are a solution.
Unions have over stepped their bounds. They have embraced power over civil service. There are lots of good people in unions and there are lots of good people representing the workers but Unions over all have become part of the problem. No longer are they worth supporting. Period !
Let the old dinosaur die off and if workers need unions let them form other based on a vote.

Progressive Liberalism has brought no good thing. What has Liberal Progressive ideology brought that is good for a christian free market society?
I did not say conservatives hold exclusivity on truth and common sense but I will say this Liberal progressive ideology is not based on the lessons taught by history but rather on the theories of men who care little for the truth and have even less common sense. They may be "smart" but these two traits they lack.
As far as finance…well I should not leave out the Republicans RINOS who have no problem taking dollars from lobbyists and other palm greasers.
I am simply pointing out that the common American clinging to their guns and religion have little need for the cronyism supporting the enemies of liberty and freedom to which the liberal progressive belong.

Look at the stats in that link, you'll see that SC students test about average – and generally higher than CA students.
Over crowding can be solved by more teachers. Get rid of the unions, cut the pay and benefits of the teachers and administrators to private sector levels and …..VIOLA! More teachers for the same amount of students. Problem solved. Easy….
