Thanks for Paying Attention Big Journalism
by Andrew BreitbartIn response to the Columbia Journalism Review’s accusing me of “blackmailing” the Attorney General of the United States, I must take notice that the mainstream media as a journalistic establishment IS paying attention to the ongoing ACORN scandal. Good. I thought so.
What the Columbia Journalism Review is doing is very similar to what Media Matters is doing: protecting the Democrat-Media Complex, the natural alliance of the Democratic Party and the mainstream media. This ACORN investigation has been going on for two months and Hannah, James, and I have proven to be truth-tellers every step of the way, while the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now has been proven time and again to be liars.
Yet instead of engaging the real, newsworthy issues of ACORN’s possible corruption, malfeasance and illegal behavior, the CJR, like its more overtly political online counterpart Media Matters, and indeed every other MSM outlet, has been sitting it out on the sidelines, waiting – rooting – for Hannah Giles, James O’Keefe and me to make a mistake. In fact, my appearance Thursday night is the only time in which the media has introduced itself into this ongoing narrative: proof that it’s paying attention and taking sides.
Neither, by the way, has the CJR challenged James Rainey, a reporter at the Los Angeles Times, who has consistently shaded his coverage favorably toward ACORN since we first broke the story back in September, evincing little interest in the truth but instead muttering about the standards of the Society of Professional Journalists (take link, be sure to read the comments). “But the Society of Professional Journalists has set a standard that deception should be used only when every other reporting approach has been exhausted and only then in certain cases, most notably to reveal a severe social problem or to prevent people from being harmed.”
A “severe social problem”? Perhaps that’s exactly what Congress saw when both the Senate and the House de-funded ACORN (at least temporarily), and the group’s tie with the census was abruptly severed in the wake of our reports. So thank you for the clarification, CJR, and thank you to its appropriately named Mr. Marx for showing that hallowed institution’s true colors at a moment when any sentient being can recognize that the credibility of journalism is on the line. It’s a little like the Sarah Palin situation: the media simultaneously dismisses her as an inept idiot and yet hangs on her every word, hoping to entrap her. Why else would MSNBC send Norah O’Donnell, armed with talking points, to “fact-check” a tee shirt being worn by a young woman at one of Sarah’s recent book signings?
And now to address the fever-swamp’s notion that what I said on “Hannity” last night was “blackmail.” Blackmail occurs when one party threatens to reveal an unsavory piece of information about another party, and demands money in exchange for silence. For obvious reasons, it is most often conducted in private. I, on the other hand, went on national television with a challenge to the Attorney General to do his job; unlike this administration and its justice department, what I did was fully open and transparent.
There will be consequences if there isn’t an investigation into ACORN. The videos will be shown and at a particular moment. There is nothing illegal about my proposed response to the continued inaction from this justice department, and there’s nothing I’d like more than to have my day in court and let a jury hear why I have gone to such extraordinary measures to tell a major story that the dying, partisan, leftist media has worked so hard to suppress.
The days of the Democrat-Media Complex controlling the narrative are in their end times. And if the AG wants to turn his focus on me instead of ACORN, then that day will be closer than many of them think.

I just read today where the Justice department gave $200,000 to ACORN. No wonder they do not want to investigate. The corruption of ACORN runs right to the top and right to the White House.

DoJ has a unique role in interacting with law enforcement and the courts while being responsive to Congress. It is crucial that DoJ not make presumptions of guilt or innocence, but to investigate all reasonably suspicious activities, including those in the executive branch.
I think it can be readily seen that the Executive Branch is influencing justice as a partisan progressive tool, which is precisely the failure of some previous Presidents (Nixon comes to mind). The only influence regular Americans have in this situation of total progressive control is protests, civil disobedience, voting (long-time away), and journalism.
Journalism in the hands of the people has a long and powerful history in the United States. Andrew Breitbart, like the rest of us, only seeks investigation, the truth, and real justice. Only BECAUSE DoJ has not performed it's neutral role of law enforcement has it been necessary to privately investigate the situation. Were an independent investigation … thorough, legal and transparent … to be performed by DoJ with FBI, this would be a non story.

Norah O'Donnell fact-checking a Palin supporter's t-shirt is just priceless! What will the lame-stream media think of next? They like to claim that conservatives can't think for themselves and unquestioningly believe everything their leaders say, yet when a Palin supporter shows up with a t-shirt expressing an opinion at odds with Palin's support (during the campaign) of the TARP, Norah treats her like she's an idiot. So which is it? Are we idiots when we agree with every statement from conservative leaders or are we idiots when we express our own opinions which some times differ from conservative leaders?
This story is momentous, and you should never leave it, before main stream media admit their conspiracies, and ask the public for a pardon for all their lies. Yep, the internet is a cruel place for the sloth and hubris of today's "professional" journalism. They keep getting their snouts bashed by electronic nobodies. From Eason Jordan to Dan Rather to every piece of poorly vetted and partisan garbage they serve up there just simply isn't any place to hide for them anymore.
The disappearing comments at the LA Times site sums up their retreat to oblivion. Obviously the comments went against them. They don't want an open dialogue or feedback from the public. The once monopolistic journo priestly caste are sniveling cowards without much talent and increasing numbers of the public knows it.

As a common Louisiana citizen I have no access to her.
Her offices are closed for Thanksgiving Holidays (is it taboo to mention a traditional holiday yet?). Even so, her only contact methods are email (lol) and voice mail…if you have the coded number.

What people should pay close attention to is whether or not a new Republican administration in 2012 would undertake a rigorous investigation of the obvious criminal acts of not only ACORN but also the Department of Justice (DOJ) and this entire present administration.
This present administration is now plundering our national treasury and giving funds at will to different groups, including ACORN, with no accountability on how they are spent, and in some instances, to even non-existent groups and congressional districts. All this takes place within the plain view of congress and nothing is done or really said about it.
To me, it is apparent that most, if not all, members of both houses of congress should be voted out of office for allowing these problems to develop. The Republicans have consistently been enablers of the Democrats blatant violations of the constitution and constitutional principals.
So my question remains: Would a Republican president in 2012 pursue with vigor the the investigation and prosecution of those individuals for any criminal acts committed by the present administration? George W. Bush didn't!!

HPJ, you said it. Getting through the day with an optimistic outlook is HUGELY facilitated by the work of AB and the gang, along with the conservative radio and tv folks and the RAPIDLY GROWING local chapters of 9/12 and the TPM.
Andrew, no need to defend yourself here. Asking a government official to fulfill the responsibilities of his office, and offering to supply the evidence for him to do that is not blackmail. And further, suggesting that, should he decline to do so, the evidence will be made public at a politically disadvantageous time for him, is good citizenship. People have the right to make informed decisions when they vote. Given that people have short memories, information should be given when it would have the most impact.

As a long-time newspaper reporter, it grieves no end to see how "big league" journalism has turned into a pack of lying crack whores. They blatantly ignore their ethics and their duty to deliver objective truth just to better kiss Democrat ass. Incredible! And moments ago, I just saw CNN use the footage of a black man holding a big gun at a town hall. His skin was still cropped out and it was used to show all the racist white people at town halls.
I refer readers to "No Quarter" and blogger Larry Anderson's analysis the current rage in America is fueled by dishonesty in our government from the top, the very top, to the bottom. This is the clearest identification of what has gone wrong in the country I have seen.
Scratch deep enough on any issue and it is the insult of betrayal of our common good, this very energy that the Obama machine tapped into during his campaign, that he in fact betrayed himself throughout his entire career and at every moment of his thuggish, lying campaign. But the desire for honesty and nobility is so deep, US voters asked for it from this highly flawed false god. Best to learn how much he betrayed his facade of ideals and it takes a free press to do this.

Twinespc, I see your point, however…one must fight "fire with fire" and the thing to remember is this: the methods "may" be the same, but you need to look at the MOTIVES behind the actions. Example: the internet can be used for good or for evil. In this same way, the methods can be used to produce good (as is being done by conservatives who are starting to use "Alinsky's Rules for Radicals" to beat the "bad guys" at their own game). I say: KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK Andrew! This corruption using our hard-earned tax dollars needs to stop! Limit government … NOT OUR FREEDOMS!

As long as we continue to refer to the liberal leaning media outlets as the "Main Stream Media", we continue to give them, by name only at least, credibility. We must do anything and everything in our power to strip them at every turn of any shred of credibility. So from this day forward, we should drop from our language the term "Main Stream Media" and adopt some other, more appropriate term when referring to this collective. "Lame Stream Media" is one option, but I am sure that better choices could be advanced by the more creative among us.

While most of our "media" is covering for our inept government, you are shining floodlights on problems they refuse to report. Citizens are becoming aware that our corrupt government does not prosecute, or even investigate, "their own". They only go after the "enemy"…anyone who disagrees with their agenda. To be slightly fair, many news sites shut off comments after so many days. The question is whether the lack of commenting ability is unique to this piece rather than everything that old. Don't play their game; draw conclusions only when you have all the facts.
MSM is waiting for their bailout-if this starts taking place we need to descend upon the WHITEHOUSE! Each state has it’s own national guard-time to call out the troops-ANARCHY! I don’t watch local public tv news stations-everybody should bann/boycott these. I seem to remember CJR taking the same kind of “blame the messenger” approach to “Rathergate.” It’s apparent that journalists only earn their keep when Republicans are in office. Eager investigations are undertaken only against the ideological enemy: conservatives.
Petty stories involving conservative politicians and administrations are “telling,” and point toward greater truths. Didn’t the Larry Craig thing suggest some moral hypocrisy? Of course. And, sure, nailing Scooter Libby for some obscure connection to the “outing” of an “undercover” FBI desk jockey was pointless, but wasn’t it FUN to see if we could chase the trail all the way to Cheney and Bush? And didn’t it just kind of “ring true” that the Bushies would be up to something secretive and evil? Yet, when Democrats and liberals are in office, journalists use their pointy heads to justify why a story isn’t a story. It’s a distraction. It’s petty. It’s “just sex.” It’s incongruous with the narrative of the noble, honest liberal. It doesn’t ring true. And most of all it’s just not fun to investigate the misdeeds of your heroes.
So, the job of investigating liberal regimes has to come from someone other than the established media. It’s falling to the Army of Davids and a few brave private individuals who know that they risk BECOMING the media story every time they find a liberal scandal. Forget the United Way. They are in the tank with Red Cross. When dealing with the Mafia you don’t use paddyfingers. When dealing with ACORN and the MSM’s willful obfuscation you don’t mince words either. AB wouldn’t have to resort to this piecemeal way of dolling out these videotapes if the MSM were doing their jobs. This isn’t blackmail, it’s caution. I find that AB is being brilliant in his dealings with these ACORN video’s. The old lamestream media is not going to cover this, in fact they will go out of their way to hide it. I’ve hesitated to say this before but I think what is going on right now with ACORN is many, many times worse than Watergate yet there is no investigative journalism into any of this. The media has become the criminals they purport to report on. It’s left to AB and the blogosphere to tell us the truth. That’s why they are under attack. I say support Andrew, James, and Hannah they are standing in the line of fire for all of us.

I spent more than three decades in that Complex before being laid off a couple of years ago in one of the waves of newspaper cost-cutting. I believe I was its last remaining conservative.
There is too much triumphalism in the blogosphere over its many victories against the MSM. Whatever else it may be, it is still Mainstream. It is where our fellow Americans get most of the 'news' that forms their opinions. Despite the recent financial troubles of newspapers, they are still making good money. And that will continue far into the future.
The ratings of ABC, NBC and CBS news may be in decline, but they still dwarf those of FOX. CNN may be a weak sister in viewership, but it is still in every airport and waiting room in the country. And CNN International is where foreigners get most of their news about the U.S.
You can fight the good fight against this leviathan, Mr. Breitbart, and I wish you the best. But I am not optimistic.

I refuse to even read them online-because I refuse to be deceived&lied to! Even if the newspapers are bailed out-with tax payer dollars-I won’t read government news. Philosophy has always been the best portal for seeking the truth over the centuries and Journalism today is dead. Maybe “BIG Journalism” can change that!
The Media ( and the "Re"gressives [Progressives] ) purposefully distort reality by leaving out the "context" of an event or a "quote". That's how they can manipulate the facts and the Truth and morph it into a self-serving statement.
EXAMPLE:
Republicans have stopped the nomination of a Security position and therefore are responsible for the “Panty-Bomber” event.
Context #1:
Democrat Napolitano wants to unionize the TSA. That has NOTHING to do with National Security. It has everything to do with Politics. That is why the Republicans want to separate unionization from Homeland Security.
Context #2:
Republican Policy, Legislation, and Political Platforms have NEVER been designed to REDUCE National Security measures and always have advocated stronger measures. But Democratic initiatives have many times pushed individual rights over National Security.
I urge all of us to revisit the great philosophers of the ages and find a “Re”gressive (Progressive) and start a dialogue. You will not get “dialogue” back. You will get an argument, an insult, a comment out of context. There will never be an attempt for a solution to the problem, only debate and the death of your idea. That is the only “solution” “Re”gressives see as viable.
