Exposing ACORN: Introducing James O’Keefe

“Come on in,” I said, and I took him to my basement command center. He opened his laptop computer and showed me the very-hard-to-believe independent film investigative journalism project he had described to me over the phone
How can I describe the video I watched? Is it a put on? I almost can’t believe what I am seeing. But with regards to ACORN, the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, I am quite cynical. So I do believe it.
But I still find myself wanting to believe it is fake. It’s just too weird. It’s too wrong. But James continuously reassures me it’s real.
So who is James O’Keefe?
Morley Safer meets Sacha Baron Cohen, I think. Not precise. But you get the point.
This isn’t your mother’s “60 Minutes.” But then again, why would a twenty five-year old even think straight journalism? His crowd doesn’t even know who Don Hewitt is. They need it quick cut, set to music and packaged to go viral on YouTube.
From what I gather, James wants to speak to his twenty-something peers who have been asked to pay for unaccountable big government ventures like ACORN on their maxed-out generational credit card. To the tune of potentially billions.
Maybe James thinks, like I do, that baby boomer elites like Katie Couric, Charlie Gibson and Brian Williams could care less. Their generational zeitgeist – and the knowledge that their kids are personally immune from monster deficits – is all that matters. And they look the other way while believing all organizations on the left – no matter how extreme – are working towards their goals.
What is immediately clear to me is that James is passionate and wants to expose corruption. As is his gutsy partner in exposing crimes, Hannah Giles. James is like me: he’s idealistic, right–leaning, and doesn’t pretend he’s a neutral and objective journalist. (No one’s “objective.”)
But I also know how my journalist friends are going to react. And so my advice to James is this: You can put this thing out your way, but you should also offer the full audio and full transcript so that people can hear and see them in their entirety – sans edits. So they can judge for themselves.

Every time I read "open their eyes" or "see the light", the first thing that hits my mind is Plato's: Allegory of the Cave. It is truly a sad time when the zombies start eating a person alive when the truth is revealed. GOD bless America and the ones that fight for her.

I am listening to Glenn Beck play this audio while also watching the tape on Fox News Channel. The depth of corruption of the left wing politics in the USA is astounding. I am not naive to the scumbag thugs in politics, but the casualness of this criminal conspiracy taking place in this video should shake everyone to their core. These are the people who are the marching soldiers in Obama's home security forces.
This is the most disgusting thing I have heard yet. Well, probably not, as sick as it is. Who do these people think that they are helping? They are criminals helping to further criminal activity. I have worked as a Child Protective Services worker and a Probation Officer, and the people that I worked with in those professions are probably better people than these guys!

Great job & it will be interesting to see how they explain this one away. Too many don't understand it is incumbent upon all to toss monkey wrenches with regularity, regardless of who is in power – it keeps the jerks honest. This administration is truly astounding in their associations & what it seems to feel it is entitled to get away with. The best way to get me to do something is tell me no; the best way to get my hackles up is to tell me my opinions are wrong & the best way to destroy trust is to keep lying after you've been caught. Hope this serves as the hand in the cookie jar finally.
First Andrew, thank you for this blog. I'm looking forward to some interesting material and you didn't disappoint right out of the blocks. Second, this is the flagship organization of the crowd we put in the White House? If this is indicative of a material part of ACORN then claims that it is a criminal enterprise are not off the mark. This is a disgusting disgrace. ACORN should be investigated fully, from top to bottom. Its finances should be fully audited by a qualified, independent audit practice.
The scary thing? – this is just one Acorn office! Multipy this situation times the likely number of other instances of duplicity coming out of this one office, and then multiply again times the number of Acorn offices in the US! Then think of all the other programs where the same fraud exists – HUD, AFDC, and so on.
They have no qualms whatsoever about cheating, lying, and abusing the system – and the system is incapable, or unconcerned, with arresting their deception.
Continued…A big "thank you" to James O'Keefe and his colleagues and a suggestion that they keep going. Inside the Beltway is full of such material, from sleeping staff to businesses run on government time using government resources, to outright fraud. Turtle Bay in NYC also presents a tremendous opportunity for this kind of journalism. James and his friends should find ways to investigate the NGOs that have taken over the agendas of ECOSOC at the UN beginning with the goings-on at the Church Center directly across the street from the UN and then into the basement of the General Assembly Building where they are essentially staffers for every country that wants to oppose our national interests. Geneva and Nairobi, also UN headquarters offer such fertile ground that they will have a hard time deciding where to start. They might start at the UN stores that sell tax-free in both places and document what happens to high-ticket items when they go out the door. Nairobi is dangerous as hell, however, so plan accordingly.

Here we have an organization that continues to get protection from Congress and the White House. The same organization is being paid to perform census, become a part of the Civilian Army & who knows what else. And of course we have Charlie Rangel in Congress evading taxes, along w/so many others who are corrupt from both political parties. It's time to clean house and insist on term limits. "O" has surrounded himself by men and women who think any means justifies the end. Marxists, Communists, lefties, left wing loonies make up most of his closest confidents and advisors. That is one reason "O" has surrounded himself with so many "Czars". No one has the opportunity to vet, question, or discover anything about them. Jones is just the beginning. And don't forget many of those appointed early on had not paid their taxes and had at the very least shady background. Small problem considering what we are about to find out about "O" and his closest friends!

I'd like to think this scandal will take ACORN down, but I think that even if a full investigation is done, it will just drag on and on….nothing seems to get better. With big money involved (especially money provided by our Government) there will always be an attempt to cover up/tone down, and even deny that we could have been so duped. I have little confidence in BIG government, making so many mistakes, and nearly bankrupting our Nation. It will be very interesting to watch what actions will be taken. To have Human Slavery discussed so casually made me sick. And while it was a completely made-up story, it's obvious all the details were considered "OK" by the ACORN staff. How sad we are not protecting the World's children. Start small…think about how you might enhance the life of someone in your immediate circle…be part of the 'Solution'. Maybe this latest scandal will get everyone thinking about how they can "Pay Forward" their own luck and happiness, and make every neighborhood a better place to live. That would be a NEWS item I would love to follow!

We as American's need to write or email the White House http://www.whitehouse.gov and let them know we will not fill out our census as long as they are hiring ACORN to do the work. We need to contact the White House and demand an investigation into ACORN from Congress and the Justice Dept. Make your voices heard. We can't stop now.

Shared this story with my father-in-law, who didn't vote for O, but loves his healthcare plan and he just shook his head and said, "That will be interesting if it's true. But, you can't believe that the whole organization is crooked just because of this one office and these two people." He doesn't believe any of the information about the czars either, because they aren't talking about it on CNN or MSNBC, and according to him, if they're not talking about it, it must not be true. Sad. So many don't want to see that information as even possibly being true. It's a painful reality.

An what ever happened to the committee-approved addition to the stimulas bill that prohibited any funds from going to a company under criminal investigation and then when the bill got to the floor for the vote…this addition mysterically dissapeared from the bill. This re-opened the door for ACORN to get their share of the funds. Who took it out? Who knew about it and why didn't their head roll?
Obama was a big part of this organization for years… he was a trainer and their attorney. So did Obama also advise people how to cheat the government? If I remember correctly, after Obama was elected, he told ACORN he was going to consult with them… they would have a say in the government! Guess we know who owns him, don't we? I'm sure a lot of his campaign contributions came from ACORN (via the US Taxpayer).

I won't be the first or last to thank them for their courage in exposing this. What amazes me though is that anyone could even have imagined that anything so sordid was even going on. And, ACORN will have something to do with census? I don't think I'd want to answer any personal questions for this crowd. This is one of the most depressing stories that I have heard recently . . . and we have heard alot.
The Big Story is not ACORN, or the corruption therein. The BIG STORY is the fact that not one news source other than FOX will touch the story. Not ABC, not NBC, not CBS, not CNN. It a total breakdown in newsreporting. Walter Cronkite should be rolling over in his grave about now……..

I feel for you. I have an aunt that I love dearly, but she is a child of the 60s and is still a screaming liberal. She would tell me that it can't be true because Fox is covering it. She would also say that I can't believe everything I see and hear. To some degree she would be correct. Maybe suggest to your father-in-law that he read Michael Crichton's book "State of Fear", while it does not directly deal with media bias, it does lay the foundation of "follow the money." As an aside, when Mr. Crichton began researching "State of Fear", it was to lay the case for man-made global warming. What he ended up with, however, is a completely different story. If you want more info on Michael Crichton go to his website and read some of his speeches. There is one very interesting one regarding the "fall" of main-stream media. Although he predicted it's demise would take place in the 90s, he did predict it's demise. And, if the ratings are any clue, the main-stream media seems to have already met it's demise.

Way to go you two! It's awesome to see that there are some conservative young journalists who feel the truth is paramount. I prepare tax returns for a living and based on the video, I'm convinced there is no way that these Acorn employees came up with these "creative" application answers on their own. Someone would have had to 'teach" them how to respond to the situation and circumvent the proper answers. They knew exactly what to say without thinking about it. That kind of automatic response is not due to brilliant off-the-cuff thinking but a lot of training and experience. They knew what to say because they'd been taught it, and have used it over and over again. In the end, those employees wound up becoming the scapegoats. Sadly, those truly repsonsible for promoting and encouraging these criminal acts are probably still working at ACORN.

EXCELLENT JOB!! Simply amazing!! I noticed that ACORN promptly terminated and/or fired these two(2) individuals. Now for the prosecution. ACORN needs to be fully investigated and ultimately dis-banded. Their funding from the American Taxpayer needs to be cut-off IMMEDIATELY!! I don't believe this "scandal" is going to change anything. A similar "sting" done at Planned Parenthood was soon forgotten. The office person was fired. The company claimed she was acting as an individual. Company stated, "We do not condone this, it's not company policy." And that was that. THE SAME WILL BE SAID BY ACORN!
As long as the Dems are in charge and the media is out in front blocking and tackling for them, the corruption will live on and on.
Andrew thank you for the new site and I wish you well with it. As I see it your job is to get the information out that the Obama media will not cover and my hope is that young people like James and Hannah will inspire others of thier age to get involved and ask questions. It is the next generation that is going to be paying for all the corruption and government mandates that we are allowing now. I hope we all keep on fighting and enlightning others so our great country can prosper under under the guides that it was founded
