Small Businesses Sue Government Goliath

by Lurita Doan

A small business association called the American Small Business League (ASBL) did something unexpected this week.  ASBL President, Lloyd Chapman, decided to take the Obama Administration to court and expose the growing divergence between the Administration’s stated goals to meet the federal statutes for small business participation versus the Obama Administration’s total failure on federal, small business contracting.

000-0121134735-David_Goliath2

By any measure, Obama’s record on federal, small business contracting has been abysmal.  The recent, National Federation of Independent Businesses (NFIB) Small Business Economic Trends Report confirms that “for small business owners, 2009 ended with a thud.”

Many factors have contributed to the disaster in small business contracting.   A rush to push the $787 billion Stimulus funding quickly gave federal contracting officers no real options other than to dump the additional federal money onto existing federal contracts that are held by the largest companies.  There just was not enough time to conduct procurements to encourage the participation of small businesses.  So, small businesses received very little of any of the new federal business or the loans anticipated from the $787 billion Stimulus spending, even though President Obama and Democrats in Congress stated that awards to small businesses were the primary goal.

Worse yet, Obama decided to delay the long-overdue need to increase the number of federal contracting officers that are in critical short supply.  Ten years ago, each federal contracting officer was responsible for an average of  $300 thousand dollars of federal contracts.   Today, each federal contracting officer is responsible for $50 million dollars in federal contracts.   Put bluntly, contracting officers have been stretched thinly and no longer have the time needed to open procurements to small businesses.

SOS – RED ALERT – New York Times About to Put American Troops in Deadly Peril

by Brad Thor

I have just received word that the New York Times is preparing to go public with a list of names of Americans covertly working in Afghanistan providing force protection for our troops, as well as the rest of our Coalition Forces.  If the Times actually sees this through, the red ink they are drowning in will be nothing compared to the blood their entire organization will be covered with.  Make no mistake, the Times is about to cause casualty rates in Afghanistan to skyrocket.  Each and every American should be outraged.

new-york-times-building-photo.preview

As chronicled here, here, here, and here the Central Intelligence Agency via the New York Times has been waging a nasty proxy war against the Department of Defense over its use of former military and intelligence personnel to do what the CIA is both incapable and unwilling to do: gather the much needed intelligence that keeps our troops safe.

According to Washington Post columnist, David Ignatius, “[T]he U.S. military has long been unhappy about the quality of CIA intelligence in Afghanistan,” and the senior military intelligence officer in Afghanistan, Maj Gen Michael T. Flynn went so far as to publish a stunning report calling for, “sweeping changes to the way the intelligence community thinks about itself.”

The report goes on to quote General Stanley McChrystal who stated that, “Our senior leaders – the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the Secretary of Defense, Congress, the President of the United States – are not getting the right information to make decisions with … The media is driving the issues.”

Is the Geico Gecko a Tea Party Crasher Too?

by Matt Kibbe

Why would the voice of Geico Insurance (“Save $50 dollars or more…”) attack the staff and followers of FreedomWorks as “mentally retarded?”  Does he really think that the good men and women who make up the tea party movement – mothers and daughters, grandparents and grandchildren – are all potential murderers that will inevitably “actually kill someone?”

Better yet, how many of these “mentally retarded” killers opted to save $50 dollars or more on their car insurance.

Last week, the FreedomWorks press department received a voicemail from a man identifying himself as Lance Baxter. This is what Lance has to say:

Sunlight on SEIU Part III: Understand Media Matters’ Funding, Understand Media Matters Targets

by Kyle Olson

Media Matters has operated as a vile organization attacking all things non-progressive: Republicans, Tea Partiers, conservatives, non-progressive media.  So it should come as no surprise that Media Matters’ ire rises most when its funders are attacked.

Generous offer

Most notably, Media Matters will trash all things non-progressive and in turn, its funders will cite Media Matters.  Case in point?  AFL-CIO’s Rich Trumka recently gave a speech in which he said, “We are working to counter the Glenn Beck effect and turn anger into action for real change.”

AFL-CIO then linked to a Media Matters article about Fox News.  Additionally, Media Matters promoted its funder’s speech before a Harvard University audience.

Another?  Media Matters has consistently defended SEIU.

An Investor’s Business Daily editorial advanced the false claim that Andy Stern, president of Service Employees International Union (SEIU), “is the most frequent visitor to the White House.” Moreover, IBD attacked Stern for saying, “[W]orkers of the world unite (is) not just a slogan anymore; it’s a way we are going to have to do our work,” and claimed, “In SEIU’s worldview, there is no room for dissent. Karl Marx, call your office”; however, IBD ignored that Stern has also said it’s “good news” that “communism’s dead.”

Consider this small group of funders:

Big Easy Beatdown… GOP Official and Boyfriend Savagely Beaten Leaving SRLC Dinner

by Jim Hoft

On Friday night Allee Bautsch, chief campaign fundraiser for Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, and her boyfriend Joe Brown, were savagely beaten in New Orleans after leaving a Republican party fundraising dinner. This report was put together on what we know so far on this horrible attack on two young Republicans.

Obama’s Mideast Peace Process: No Process and No Peace

by Of Thee I Sing 1776

The first foreboding came during President Obama’s inaugural address when he announced to the Muslim world, “…we seek a new way forward, based on mutual interest and mutual respect…we will extend a hand if you are willing to unclench your fist.”  Who can quarrel with such a goal? But with the benefit of 15 months of hindsight, those words were an early warning signal to Israel the sole steadfast American ally in the region surrounded by Muslim nations essentially sworn to its destruction.

obama-cairo-2009

There was also, of course, the much heralded Cairo speech which was loaded with good-sounding, even pseudo-historic, platitudinous remarks but which lacked the one statement that mattered…that both sides agree to enter peace talks, the publically avowed purpose of which would be to reach a settlement that would end the Israel-Palestinian dispute once and for all, a settlement that would mean no new demands directed by one party against the other.

Israel has been paraded, often reluctantly, to center stage by a succession of American Administrations to perform much like a dancing bear for a variety of Presidents who wanted to add “peacemaker” to their legacy and who demanded of Israel a succession of concessions each of which was called a “confidence building measure” to show the Arab nations Israel’s good faith intentions.

Since its inception as a Jewish state in 1948, the only one by the way, effectively created by the United Nations (many of the remainder of which being creations of British map drawing after World War I), Israel has been the only true democracy and a steadfast ally of the United States.  It has enjoyed the support, in varying degrees, of American governments from Truman through Bush, including even Jimmy Carter while he was president.

Death Prayer for NJ Gov. Christie is Yet Another Tasteless Attack on Reform-Minded State Leaders

by Kyle Olson

A recent letter by a New Jersey Education Association official that “jokingly” prayed for the death of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is yet another tasteless attack by teachers unions on officials who attempt to improve public education.

NJEANJEA’s local Bergen County Education Association President Joe Coppola issued a memo that included the prayer to thousands of union members last week. He has since apologized about the death prayer, which he called a joke, and said he made an error in judgment.

Here is Coppola’s prayer: “Dear Lord this year you have taken away my favorite actor, Patrick Swayze, my favorite actress, Farrah Fawcett, my favorite singer, Michael Jackson, and my favorite salesman Billy Mays. I just wanted to let you know that Chris Christie is my favorite governor.”

Neither Christie nor virtually anyone else thought it was funny.

Unions’ Big Shift to Government

by Warner Todd Huston

Unionism is failing miserably in this age of a greater world market and an increase in competition for business across the globe. More nations than ever have left behind the 18th century and are taking bold steps into a world made smaller by technology. No longer is but a handful of nations leading the world in manufacturing while the rest wallow in abject poverty. This greater competition is increasing the standard of living in nearly every corner of the earth but because there is so much competition, unions in the U.S. are dying out.

rally

American unions are not conducive to the 21st century and companies shackled by them are finding that either unions have to lose their once overpowering control over production or the businesses simply have to shut their doors as foreign competitors beat them up in the world market place.

But these antiquated, jobs killing unions won’t go quietly into the night and they’ve found their path to existence: government. Unions are growing wildly in the public sector because there are no market forces to curb their excesses.

The latest statistics from the Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that overall unions lost 771,000 members in 2009 and the percentage of private sector jobs held by union members fell to 12.3 percent, the lowest since unionism became de rigueur in the U.S.

But while they are falling to new lows in the private sector, unions are growing rapidly in the public sector. Government is unionizing at an increased rate.

The Real Disappointment About The Obama Bow – You Get The Genuflector You Deserve

by Andrew Marcus

The blogosphere is aflame with latest Obama bow, in this instance to “President” Hu Jintau of China.

We think people might be missing the real disappointment these bows represent, and are instead caught up in the horror of the image of the President of the United States bowing to anyone. That reaction is understandable if you consider one of America’s founding paradigms to have been that we bow before no King (or dictator) be it symbolically through taxes or jizyah, let alone literally.

That aside, the real disappointment about the Obama bow is what it says about the American people, who elected a stranger – and the media outlets who for fear of losing candidate access and campaign commercial ad buys never brought to light the details of Barack Obama’s past – or the political machine that raised him.

It doesn’t matter that Barack Obama bows. People can feel free to bow if that is how they feel comfortable expressing a greeting to people.

It does matter that the President of the United States bows, because he represents the nation, and thus it carries significant symbolic consequences.

Hedge Fund Managers Invest in Congress

by Publius

From Politico:

100412_paulson_ap_218

John Paulson, one of the world’s richest hedge fund managers, has not been shy about spreading his wealth to Senate campaign coffers — or to the chairman of the committee that could directly affect his bottom line.

Paulson held a ritzy $1,000-per-head fundraiser for Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd last year — and then maxed out his donation with $4,800 more for the Connecticut Democrat’s now-aborted reelection run.

Paulson is hardly alone.

According to a review of Federal Election Commission records, the nation’s 10 richest hedge fund managers have dumped nearly $1 million into campaign accounts over the past several years — with much of it going to senators who’ve given them a friendly reception on Capitol Hill.

And despite all the tough talk about a crackdown on Wall Street, consumer advocates and critics from other financial sectors say hedge funds would get off pretty easily under the regulatory reform bill Dodd’s committee approved last month — a charge Dodd’s aides reject.

Little Punk Congressmen

by Jed Babbin

The kerfuffule over the “little punk staffers” who populate congress in the thousands focuses on the wrong people.

Yes, there are too many of them and many are paid much more than they are worth. Yes, they wield too much power: in the case of this congress, dealing with a tsunami of nation-changing legislation, it falls to them to write the terms of the bills and the devils they create in the details – too often without the members’ knowledge – can damage the nation. And they are not accountable to the voters, just to the people who employ them.

Bailout Banks

Staffers, as I have learned in more than two decades of dealing with them, reflect the views and attitudes of the members they serve with near perfection. When Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Oh) derided the staffers writing the House financial reform measure as “little punk staffers” he was – intentionally or not – calling House Banking Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass) a punk. And he was correct.

But now a lot of them are taking offense. As Politico reported Monday, “‘Most members of Congress appreciate the hard work that the staff does, which enables members to do their jobs,” said Brendan Daly, spokesman for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. ‘It’s unfortunate that some of these Republican members are unnecessarily criticizing aides who are just doing their jobs.’”

Most staffers are intelligent, patient, and extraordinarily hard-working. But when they work for a member who is arrogant, they reflect his arrogance.

Labor Unions: Employment at Wal-Mart Like Slavery

by Capitol Confidential

The public relations campaign to expand the presence of the nation’s largest discount department store into two of Chicago’s most depressed neighborhoods took a decidedly nasty turn Saturday, when a prominent Democratic operative compared employment at Wal-Mart to slavery in 18th-century America.

walmart-asus

With a coalition of local labor unions promising to withdraw support for any alderman who votes for the measure, Chicago’s City Council has for months been locked in a statement on the issue of the company’s expansion.

But Alderman Anthony Beale, who lobbied his colleagues on Wal-Mart’s proposal, claims he now has the votes to approve the new development, a measure which he argues will inject new money and jobs into struggling black communities on Chicago’s depressed South Side. The Council is slated to vote for the expansion this week.

Though the areas in which Beale has proposed Wal-Mart expand have high and sustained unemployment, union organizers say the retail giant’s wages are inadequate.

“The notion that black people should be happy to get any job, I think, is an insult to the black community,” said Delmarie Cobb, a veteran political activist and spokeswoman for Good Jobs Chicago. “As I said to Anthony Beale, slavery was a job.”

Sunlight on SEIU Part II: SEIU’s White House Go-To Man Still on Union Payroll in 2009

by Kyle Olson

Earlier last year, ACORN founder Wade Rathke glowingly blogged that Patrick Gaspard, political director of the White House, was a former ACORN organizer.  When that claim started receiving a bit of attention, Rathke offered a retraction, saying his memory was playing tricks on him. Right, Wade, right…

What is indisputable about Patrick Gaspard is that at one time, he was the Executive Vice President of SEIU Local 1199, the New York City-based chapter that is the largest of all SEIU locals.  At some point in late 2007 or early 2008, Gaspard allegedly left SEIU to join the Obama campaign.

Patrick-Gaspard-015

Obama won the primary, and ultimately the general election, and Gaspard was named the Director of Political Affairs in the White House – a heady and important job.

So it should give transparency and clean government advocates a bit of concern to see in calendar year 2009, Gaspard received a whopping $37,191 from SEIU 1199.  Assuming he officially became a federal employee on January 20th (Inauguration Day), it amounted to nearly $2,000 a day in compensation.

Maybe if He Stopped Bowing

by Monica Crowley

Here we go again.  President Obama bowed to the Chinese President and the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party, Hu Jintao, when they met in Washington yesterday.  This latest bow comes after a string of previously humiliating and ridiculous Bama bows: to the Saudi king, the Japanese emperor, and (my favorite) the Mayor of Tampa, Florida.

bow_china

After all of this deferential bowing, the Saudis are still supporting and exporting Islamic terrorism and radicalism and the Japanese are still in our face about our military bases there.  I’m pretty sure Tampa must still have some sort of beef with Washington.  But the point is that no matter how much groveling the Bama does, the result is the same: total contempt from those
he’s trying desperately to charm with his “humility.”

The latest example is Hu, who looked completely baffled and slightly amused at the sight of the President of the United States and supposed champion of freedom, bowing before him.  Of course, he read it as American weakness (as he and everyone else in the world had read the Bama’s previous bows).  The result?  Earlier yesterday, Team Obama rushed to the media to trumpet a
breakthrough of sorts with the Chinese over sanctions on Iran’s nuclear program.  Jeff Bader, a top Obama national security official, proclaimed, ”They are prepared to work with us.”

Not so fast.

Calling all Radicals: The Center for American Progress is Hiring

by Jason Mattera

In this ObamaEconomy, you, like most Americans, may be struggling to find work. Well, you’re in luck. We’ve created a convenient checklist so that you can see if you quality to work at John Podesta’s left-wing “think” tank, the Center for American Progress.

  1. Did you ever sign a petition that stated “high-level government officials may have deliberately allowed the September 11th attacks to occur”?
  2. Do you support the convicted cop-killer, Mumia Abu-Jamal?
  3. Are you a street agitator committed to Marxist revolution?

If you answered yes to all of the above questions, then you and Van Jones are kindred spirits. But, more importantly, what it really means is that your next paycheck could be cut and signed by Podesta himself. After all, it was Podesta who scooped up Van Jones after he was forced out of the White House from his perch as the “green jobs” czar, once the eco-princess’s sordid past and radical worldview were uncovered by intrepid bloggers.

Just exactly how delirious does one need to be in order to work at the Center for American Progress? I was curious.

Smile, John, you’re on camera:

If you want the revealed strategy of how John Podesta’s cronies at the Center for American Progress use voters under 30 as shills and sheep to support Barack’s socialist agenda, be sure to check out my new book Obama Zombies: How the Liberal Machine Brainwashed My Generation. It’s all there.

EXCLUSIVE: Radical Awakening: From America Hater to Hero

by Matthew Vadum

From the April 2010 issue of Townhall magazine: Brandon Darby learned something from Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela. Once a hard-core radical who sided with progressive revolutionaries, Darby prevented a left-wing terrorist attack on the 2008 GOP convention. Now, this America-loving patriot is the target of the domestic extremists he once called “friends.”

hater

Did you know that a courageous former radical helped to avert a planned left-wing terrorist attack at the 2008 Republican National Convention that might have killed who knows how many Americans?

Neither did I until recently.

That’s because if you disrupt a terrorist attack on Americans by Islamic fundamentalists as Northwest Flight 253 passenger Jasper Schuringa did on Christmas Day, you’re a hero; however, if you take the initiative to undermine a terrorist attack on Americans by supposedly well intentioned left-wing fundamentalists, you might as well be a terrorist yourself.

Brandon Darby, who in recent years also refused leftists’ invitations to get involved in Venezuelan communist subversion here in America and in anti-Israeli terrorism in Palestine, learned this unpalatable truth the hard way.
